Have any of you done this? How did it come about? And has it happened recently?

Recently, I've discovered a fair bit of Rap that I really like. Death Grips, Cunninlynguists and Public Enemy are excellent IMO. I would like to get into the Trance Genre, as I'm getting into a bit of Electro music, but I can't find any particular artists I'd like to explore, it all seems to be thrown together in compilations and such. As I said, I'm liking Electro right now, and my favouites would have to be Aphex Twin, Starfvcker, and Reaver.

I suppose the closest for me is probably folk, my dad used to have a few folk stuff that I found all very boring to be fair and in general didn't find myself much into folk, course then I gave the likes of Bon Iver and Iron & Wine ago which I've been quite liking

Beyond that I'm not sure on just genre, though I can think of several bands I disliked at first and then ended up enjoying

Incidentally, Death Grips are awesome :P

Believe it or not, I used to actually dislike Grunge until I started listening to some Grunge bands more. Then again, I used to be so biased towards clas-sic rock music (mostly 70s) that I was a bit too quick to shoot down music from other eras. But when I started listening to bands like Nirvana, Soundgarden, and Alice In Chains, that kind of opened my eyes to the grunge era a lot more.

God that's a lot for me. The biggest probably being Melodic Death Metal and Metalcore, which I used to absolutely despise. Now I love listening to Darkest hour, In Flames, KSE, ABR, As I Lay Dying, and many others on a daily basis. My most recent like for some odd reason, is the pop-alternative stylings of Lana Del Rey, i've listened to her Born To Die album 8-10 times in the last 3 days. I just love it, and I usually can't stand that kind of music.

I used to hate Progressive Metal bands. Now all my favourite bands are from that genre or a mix mash of Melodic Death/Doom/Progressive

I used to hate metal back when I was in Middle school, and throughoutmost of higschool I wasn't a big fan either. I've definitely changed over the year, I've started enjoying thrash, speed, melo death, doom, folk and some other types as well. It's a pretty cool genre. I think I'll always prefer punk though, lol.

I used to completely write off metal as utter **** until my friend played me Master of Puppets, and from then on I proceeded on into metal and while starting out on metal I wrote off all metal bands with harsh vocals (ie death, black) because it was just noise. Now it makes 90% of my listening. All of that happened within a span of a year.

I don't "hate" any genre.

One thing that people NEED to understand is that there is no such thing as a "bad" genre.

There is a genre, a style, and then there is the artist, who CAN be bad.

Any music from any genre can be a true work of art in the right hands.

Now you could say that there are things about genres that you just can't get around to, and in a way and i can see your point, but there are so many bands/artists for every genre out there that there HAS to be an exception.

I was never (and still completely) big on country, but I really like Hank Williams III. To be fair he's not your prototypical country artist.

hehehe, that's kinda hard.

I hate genres that aren't my language. especially when someone plays it and also doesn't understand the language either.

so far the least I've been listening into are musics that kind of a dancing type y'know R&R thing.

the others are just average, love, rock, pop etc.

I guess I'm kind of the same way. Even if the music sounds good, I'd rather listen to songs that are sang in English so I can actually understand the words, since lyrics are an important part of music to me.

I can understand that, but it doesn't really bother me that much. There are moments from bands like Lifelover where I'd love to know what he's saying, but I love it anyway.

I used to hate dubstep. It just sounded broken and like a mess of sound without a melody or rhyme or reason at all, but then I heard a few songs that were pretty good and I've been getting into it, mostly from Skrillex ("Promises" got me into dubstep).

I never really hated on any genre, cause I used to say that there was at least one song in every genre I liked, but damn, Screamo and Dubstep gave me a hard time finding a few songs I liked.

This may change your mind about Screamo.

Nice. That is one of the better ones I've heard.

Agreed about Dubstep.

I used to think it was all crap, but the few Skrillex songs I've heard that have very little singing are really good. I like Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites and First of the Year.

I've been trying to explore DnB a bit lately, and I've found a really good artist called DJ Hidden. Czech it

Metal music I used to dislike, but after hanging out with a kid who used to bring a boombox to school and listening to it I started to like it more.
