Well, what got me started listening to the genre in general were probably the black metal band Dark Fortre, and shortly afterwards the black metal duo Anaal Nathrakh.
Though for specific kinds, it was those two for black metal, Electric Wizard for stoner metal, Motorhead for your more classic heavy metal.
If you can count metalcore too, it depends, I listened to bits of Bring Me The Horizon here and there for awhile, but what really got me into the genre was a band called Rolo Tomassi.
The artist that got me into metal was Ozzy Osbourne. I was hooked after I heard "Crazy Train".GamerofMario1I love that song.

It's a great song. Do you like any of his other work?

I also like songs like No More Tears, See You On The Other Side, Mr. Crowley, Thunder Underground, and such. I also love his Black Sabbath band.I listened to alot of "greatest hits" collections from Black Sabbath and Iron Miaden, but what really got me into metal, particularly heavy metal, was when a friend me As I Lay Dying's "Shadows Are Security" album. It was intense, catchy and showed me that metal can have a positive influence.
However, given recent events with AILD's singer, I really hope the rest of the members ditch that asshole and start a new band.
