Aquaman
Poor Aquaman. Even with the darker turn of his recent comic runs, he has never been able to shed his reputation of freaky fish guy. He was a founding member of the Justice League, and he didn't even get an invite when the cartoon adaptation aired. Obviously, Netherrealm hopes to remedy that with their interpretation of the freaky fish guy.
Ares
The recent announcment of Ares came as a bit of a surprise seeing how little people actually know the Wonder Woman villain outside of her fans. Personally, I find his design to be repulsively over-the-top and trying too hard like something frmo the 90s. But hey, guess they need an evil armored guy who evokes Shao Kahn's design in the roster since this is by MK developers. No news yet if Kratos will be sneaking into the roster to tear him to shreds.
Bane
Bane recently came to mainstream attention due to Tom Hardy's portrayal in The Dark Knight Rises, but the Injustice version follows more closely the comic version where his big ass muscles come from the superdrug Venom. Regardless of which version you know, the devious merc with both the brains and brawns never gets tired of breaking a certain pilfering crusader over his knee...
Batman
This should come as a surprise to none. You'd think they'd make a DC fighter and leave out their biggest character? Seriously, just look at all the titles in the top selling comics per month affriliated with Batman. The successful movie trilogy and various animated series help as well. His appearance in Injustice is heavily modeled after Christian Bale's version with its armor padding n stuff but veteran Kevin Conroy should be reprising his role. Batman plays a major role in the game's plot, leading the anti-Superman resistance group. More on that later.
Black Adam
In the comics, Black Adam started out as the corruped predecessor to the hero formerly known as Captain Marvel. In more recent times, storylines have added to that origin, making him a tragic fallen hero. Don't know too much about him, but Black Adam is a pretty cool name.
Catwoman
Catwoman has the distinction of not only being Batman's first female villain, but his second longrunner to debut. Her relationship to Big Bad Black is rather complex, having gone from trying to feed Robin to lions to mothering his daughter. Injustice brings the morally ambigious thief that fanboys love to the gaming screen, complete with an all-new skintight outfit designed for maximum sexual appeal. And a kitty too.
Cyborg
Most of you probably will remember Cyborg from the Teen Titans cartoon, but more recently he has graduated to fullblown Justice Leaguer. If done right, he can make a legendary trolling character on the levels of the roboninjas from Mortal Kombat.
Deathstroke
You may remember him as Slade from Teen Titans (again), but Slade Wilson is best known to the comic legions as Deathstroke the Terminator. Having previously appeared in MK vs. DC, it was only fit that he returned to beat on his peers once again. Fun fact: He was one of the inspirations for the design (not personality though) of Marvel's Deadpool. The two have unofficially met, ending with Deadpool annoying the hell out of 'stroke and ending up badly penetrated in return.
Doomsday
He killed Superman in a 90s comic event that somehow made national news, and also appeared in a few episodes of Justice League. Other than that, I don't give a rats about the character. Guessing Netherrealm just needs a big strong tank character in the game.
The Flash
The Flash holds the distinction of being the fastest man alive, and those who have watched that one episode of Justice League know just how much that title makes him capable of. The Flash in this game is the Barry Allen incarnation of the character, and his more armored take on the costume appears inspired by the New 52 version. His speed-based powers will make for a rather interesting character to play.
Green Arrow
You may have heard of this guy, he has a show on right now called 'Arrow.' He's another of those Aquaman type characters that people kinda glance over, but are a bit better when you take the time to look at them. And yes, I may have just defended freaking Aquaman right here. But anyways, since he's obviously going to be a range-based figher, I look foward to spamming the hell out of those arrows. No news yet if he'll be teaming up with Green Lantern on another 70s style roadtrip to protect the youth of 'murica from the evils of drugs and raceesm!
Green Lantern
In brightest day, in darkest night, let those who worship evil fear my light. Green Lantern is one of those characters whose mantle has been held by multiple, and Injustice picked the most iconic of them all: Hal Jordan, who was featured in the 2011 movie. Sorry to the fans of the black one from the JL cartoon. His only limitations to his power are his imagination and the color yellow. So yes, you probably could kick his ass with just a rubber ducky and a banana.
Harley Quinn
Fanfavorite Harley Quinn, the Joker's obsessive fangirl, started out as an animated sidevillain on Batman: The Animated Series but her popularity ensured she made a successful jump to the printed page. She was one of the first announced for the roster, but regrettably her outfit continues the horrendous trend of taking her out of the classic Harlequin outfit and putting her in some slutty badgirl sh*t.
Hawkgirl
She flies and hits people with maces rather angrily. Perfect fit for a game developed by Mortal Kombat people, don't you think? Fans of Justice League the animated series may recall her romance with the Jon Stewart Green Lantern, but no signs yet that she'll feel the same for the cream of the Oreo in this game.
The Joker
With a Harley in the game, it was only natural that someone would have to rev it. Vroom vroom! Batman's ultimate enemy, the Joker has enjoyed several great portrayals in media (from Mark Hammill, Jack Nicholson, and Heath Ledger) and iconic stories like The Killing Joke. His accomplishments include killing Robin and crippling Batgirl before twenty years later retcons took care of those. His slot on the roster is a bit of a mystery, as Superman flat out fatalities him in the prequel comics to Injustice. Perhaps someone made a clone from his sperm?
Killer Frost
Killer Frost probably is the most obscure character on the roster thus far. In fact, the ice-based villainess's major rival, the hero Firestorm, isn't even in Injustice. DLC character confirmed? Guess the developers just need another sexually appealing female (but what gurls in fighting games aren't) on the roster.
Lex Luthor
One day, Lex Luthor was caught up in a horrific lab accident as a teen where the kid Superman accidentally blew off all his hair. Devestated, Lex Luthor turned to crime, stealing forty cakes in his most infamous heist. Given that his normal puny self would be torn to shreds by the other contestants of Injustice, Lex is fighting in Transformer cosplay suit. Given his grudge against Superman, it's rather likely he'll be allied with Batman in the story with his own ulterior motives.
Nightwing
Robin eventually realized that running around in your tights and bare legs painted as a big bullseye wasn't the ideal crime fighting method, and remodeled himself, going fully independent. Like Batman, Nightwing fights with tech-based equipment and his own martial arts skills, but is a lot less rigid. AKA meaning like that bastard Spider-Man is willing to trash-talk in the midst of his fights. Also, given the pic above, has no moral qualms about electrocuting women directly in the breasts.
Raven
Here, it's real evident that someone on the development team was a real fan of the Teen Titans franchise. With Raven, former Robin, and Cyborg on the menu, all that's missing to make a full-on TV series reunion are Starfire and that Beast Boy freak. Raven is a half-demonic empath who has a tendency to turn evil in the comic storylines when writers have no better ideas to do with her.
Shazam
Shazam, aka the hero formely known as Captain Marvel, is in actuality a little boy who utters the magic word Shazam to turn into a Superman-type powerhouse with the power of lightning. He's as old as Superman, Batman, and all the other good 'ol oldies; and even was the most popular hero at one point. But the ironically, DC hasn't managed to replicate that success today in his modern incarnations. Given his depiction normally as all that's simple and innocent, who knows whether he'll be teaming up with his fellow man in tights or the guy in black body armor.
Sinestro
He's the former mentor of the Green Lantern used in Injustice, and now his archenemy. He has brought along loads of bananas to take on his former student in Injustice. Unlike Green Lantern who embodies willpower, Sinestro's yellow color scheme embodies fear. He's so egotistical that instead of calling his allies the Yellow Lanterns, he makes them go under his moniker of Sinestro Corps. Rather recently, he has rejoined the Green Lanterns, or at least when I last checked. I don't read Green Lantern! Outside of comics, his evilness has been fully encapsulated in an episode of Duck Dodgers.
Solomon Grundy
Oh look, another giant character who's a tank-type fighter. SG is a zombified villain with varying degrees of intelligence from appearance to appearance; his last big role in video games was a boss enslaved by the Penguin in Arkham City. He has fought multiple heroes in the DC universe, from Batman to Supes to Green Lunkhead.
Superman
The big bad of the Injustice universe, Earth's former greatest hero kinda lost it and decided to take matters into his own hands. Which meant going George Orwell on the world. Now free to commit several horrendous acts such as depriving thirsty people of hydration or enslaving McDonald's to feed him burgers for an eternity, Supes was pretty satisfied with his new world order. Until those pesky moral jerk Batman organized a little movement to dethrone him. In theory, he should be one of the funner characters to play, with his flying, super strength, and big laser eyes.
Wonder Woman
The most noteworthy aspect of this Wonder Woman is that she wears pants, unlike the more iconic design used in the Justice League cartoon and majority of her comic appearances with the magic star-studded undies of power. Wait, a female on the rostern not sexed out to the nth degree? :shock:
