I've played them all. I'd rank them like this:
Â
Twisted Metal Head On: Extremely Twisted Edition (PS2)
Twisted Metal Black (PS2)
Twisted Metal Head On (PSP)
Twisted Metal 2 (PSX)
Twisted Metal 4 (PSX)
Twisted Metal (PSX)
Twisted Metal Small Brawl (PSX)
Twisted Metal 3 (PSX)
Â
The only ones I don't like are Small Brawl and 3. 4 has a bad rep, but it was a ton of fun and featured a killer licensed soundtrack. I also loved a few of the characters because of thier wackiness. The upgraded version of Head On wins because of the solid gameplay in addition to the ridiculous amount of extra content on the disc. If you guys don't have it, you should find a copy. It should be more than twenty bucks at the absolute most because it was that when it came out.Â

He's no ordinary Kirby. He's Kratos Kirby.raziellich
I'd totally agree with that list. Twisted Metal 2, Black, and Head-On really emphised what Twisted Metal was, is, and supposed to be. Twisted Metal 3, 4, and Small Brawl were great in theory, and had some great special features (Like the soundtrack for 3 and 4.), but forgot what the game was even about. The gameplay, and the endings were most important.MudkipMaster30
3 was the only one in the series I'd call bad. I couldn't figure out why they switched up the control scheme so bad. I didn't like the way it handled at all.Â
hey you, TM3 was the best, don't you think so?yellowshinygold
Â
3 was the reason the series nearly died. Â
yeah i read it somewhere and they did it cuz the government didnt like wat they saw at all
but after watching all the vids,i kinda see their point of view, it wudda been awesome to have the vids in though
I'm still going with Head On being the best. It was the perfect blend of Twisted Metal 2 and Black. Plus, it added a ton of features like getting bonuses for kills that you could keep until you die. (better machine guns, bonus weapons, better armor, etc,), special minigames that you could play in single player that would allow you earn weapons (some of which where a ton of fun), and it has probably the best weapon selection in the series. fire missile, homing, power, napalm, swarm missile, ricochet, environmental, etc.
Black does have the best stories though.Â
Now, if they took the elements from Head On, and added a few features from 4, it would be spectacular. I know a lot of critics didn't like 4, but the car creation tool was fun. Throw in a few more options and it would have been spectacular. Plus, the game also featured a ton of extra levels that were more focused on arena combat that full sprawling cities. There were levels like a giant mountain, a level were pecies would be constantly falling off, one with crazy jumps all over the place, and even one where touching the walls would send your car flying off the screen. Really, even if the gameplay and characters weren't the best, 4 had some wicked bonus features.Â
I really can't wait to see what the next TM will be like.Â
I'm confused. Are you guys saying that too much effort was put on TM Black Online? Because that came out AFTER Black had already hit shelves. The original game had no online component. Online was just supposed to be that, and online version of Black's gameplay to help sell the network adapter. It was never supposed to be a sequel or anything.
And since Black had what many consider the best stories in the entire series, I hardly think there was a lack of ideas.Â
Not at all, I'm talking games in general these days. Actually mainly war games, where people see online play as the main importance. It could just be me, but the story mode of most of these kinds of games are way too short simply because gamers see online play as the main importance of any given game.
Black was awesome, but Black Online just didn't mesh with the PC. You really need a controller for that kind of game. Keyboards don't cut it.Â
I hate to break it to you, but I've got a strong feeling that TM PS3 is going to have a major online mode to the game. I personally can't wait to hear details because I enjoy Online modes, but I'm praying the online mode doesn't take away from the story mode. Especially for a game like this.
(Imagine if the online mode was really fun, but the story mode was only like 4 levels...) Â
1. Developers don't rush the games. Its the publishers that force the game to be released.
 2. Online games are probably more difficult to make than offline ones because they have to spend so much time getting to work properly.Â
 3. Just because a game has a story doesn't mean it took that much more time to make.Â
