ROH Results & Discussion - Chicago, Illinois
Saturday, February 24

Pre-Show Event

1) Bobby Dempsey & Mitch Franklin defeated Alex Payne & Ernie Osiris. Dempsey forced Osiris to submit.

- Looks like the crowd is small and many are filing in. Weather is getting bad, with freezing rain. Probably going to be another delayed bell time.

- Shane Hagadorn came out and told everyone that he's tired of wrestling on the pre-show, because he's the man everyone with a brain paid to see. So tonight's, he's defending his trophy during the main show and it deserves to be the main event.

2) Eric Priest & Chandler McClure defeated Tyler Black & Pelle Primaue. Priest got the pinfall over Black as McClure kept Pelle from making the save.

3) Tank Tolland w/ Larry Sweeney defeats Drake Younger. After the match, Sweeney promised the crowd that Tolland would work Hero into shape so that Hero could take the ROH championship back from Morishima.

Main Show

1) Matt Cross defeats CJ Otis & Trik Davis & SHINGO. Matt got the victory by pinning Trik Davis. Huge ovation for Cross after the match.

2) SHIMMER Tag Team Match: Sara Del Ray & Allison Danger defeat MsChif & Serena. Serena took the pin.

3) Brent Albright w/ Larry Sweeney defeated Claudio Castagnoli.

The results have be come ridiculously difficult to follow, but from what I can tell:

Rave defeated Whitmer in a match that is not getting a good response (:( )

The Briscoes are your new ROH Tag Team Champions defeating Chris Daniels and Matt Sydal.

NRC attack after, Cross gets Tiger Drivered on the rail. Rematch next Chicago show.

Yes, but its understandable.

Barring these get some major positive reviews, I'm probably going to be passing on this weekend's shows.  I really didn't think that would happen, but the buzz just isn't there right now.

The_Dude, cuz of the live reports, i recommend not skipping on the Chicago show. people are saying it's the best Chicago show since Better than our Best.

Credit: Dr. Keith Lipinski and www.wrestlingobserver.com

Courtesy of Dr. Keith Lipinski’s cellphone, it’s ROH at the Windy City Fieldhouse:

1. Challenge: Brent Albright over Claudio Castagnoli in 11:38 with a half-nelson german.

2. SHIMMER: Allison Danger & Sara Del Ray over Serena & MsChief in 7:27.

3. 4 Corner Survival: Matt Cross over C.J. Otis & Shingo Takai & Trik Davis. Awesome

4. Challenge: Jimmy Rave over BJ Whitmer in 10:52.

5. For vacant titles: The Briscoes over Matt Sydal & Christopher Daniels in 24:50 to win the ROH tag team championship. Outstanding

6. Matt Cross & Austin Aries over Davey Richards & Roderick Strong in 14:35. Cross over Richards with a 450.

7. Colt Cabana over Jimmy Jacobs in 22:55. Awesome match with double juice and a spot that saw Jacobs come off the top of a ladder with a senton onto Colt, who was laying on a table outside the ring.

8. ROH Champion Takeshi Morishima & Nigel McGuinness over Samoa Joe & Homicide in 23:10, after Nigel pinned Joe with a lariat. As expected, the place was crazy for Joe, who was working his final American date for ROH.

Well, tonight was a great show. I'd say the best live show I've seen since Better than Our Best. A couple of mediocre matches and blown spots really prevent it from being that great of a show, but tonight was definitely something special.

First of all, hats off to all six guys in the mayhem match during the pre-show. I really enjoyed it a lot. Mike Elgin's DVD was tremendous and I wish this could be put on the DVD because it was damn entertaining and got a surly crowd going.

The reason the crowd was surly cause the Windy City Fieldhouse sucked. Maybe if ROH got the whole thing, then it would be okay. But they didn't so we were all stuck together like sardines. There were no awkward silences at least with the whistles but it was still damn annoying. And what the hell are people playing volleyball on a Saturday night at 10:00 P.M. for? The chants were very appropriate

The new lighting is excellent. The sound is clearer and the ring looks great.

Onto the show itself:

Claudio Castagnoli vs. Brent Albright: An okay match. My friend gave Claudio some static as he came through the crowd so that was fun. This would have fit better in the middle of the card as opposed to the opener. I thought 4CS should have been the opener to get things rolling right away. **1/2

Allison Danger and Sara Del Ray vs. MsChif and Serena: Call me a pig but Serena is hot. Sara Del Ray is a damn good wrestler and MsChif has a great character. This is the first time I've ever seen a live Shimmer match, and it was okay at times. I just enjoyed watching real women's wrestling as opposed to the other garbage on television. **

Shingo vs. Matt Cross vs. Trik Davis vs. CJ Otis: I was stunned that Trik didn't job in this match. Needless to say Matt Cross got the perfect reaction to justify what would happen after the match. I was surprised Shingo didn't pick up the win, but he has still gotten a lot better then even when I saw him back in December. ***

BJ Whitmer vs. Jimmy Rave: The crowd was quite dead for this match which I take to be a bad sign since these guys are both top level ROH veterans. Other than the usual "Die Jimmy Die" and other assorted chants the crowd wasn't really into this match at all. And I wasn't either except for some of the chops. **

Christopher Daniels and Matt Sydal vs. The Briscoes: People can criticize Christopher Daniels for some of his work and they'd be justified to a certain extent, but he was on tonight. Matt Sydal' heel shctick was great and The Briscoes wrestled their best match since coming back to ROH. Best tag match I've ever seen live and the crowd was ecstatic about the title change. Match of the night. ****1/2

Roderick Strong and Davey Richards vs. Austin Aries and Matt Cross: It was weird seeing Aries and Strong on different teams and booing Strong just felt so wrong. Cross did look like he seriously injured himself and the front row people of my section got to have a bleeding wrestler on their hand. A solid match marred by the injury. ***

Jimmy Jacobs vs. Colt Cabana: After this match I had to seriously consider whether this match or the Homicide/Cabana match was more violent. The fact that I had to ask this shocked the hell out of me. Jacobs put on what I believe is his best singles performance in ROH. It was everything you wanted in a match like this. The thing I love about this company is when they do violence, they do it all the way. Jacobs' putting Cabana through the table was the clear highlight and I marked out thinking Jacobs would win at this point. Great job by Cabana as well. ****

Takeshi Morishima and Nigel McGuinness vs. Samoa Joe: People can say whatever they want about whether or not Morishima should be the champion or not but after seeing him tonight, I wasn't impressed. Maybe it was the fact that it was a tag match, but I wasn't impressed by Morishima in the ring at all. This was still a great match, but I thought Joe and Nigel really carried it. And Joe's speech was really good too. I'm not sure how similar it was to the other venues but I thought it was great just the same. ****

Overall, it was a great show. I'm glad to be going back to the Frontier Fieldhouse even though it is in the middle of nowhere. The Morishima as champ worries me. Hopefully Nigel wins the belt in April. I do love the direction ROH is headed with the new factions and the tag teams formed from those factions. I also think tonight was a breakthrough for Jimmy Jacobs. And MAN UP, cause the REAL TAG CHAMPS ARE HERE!!!

Judas Priest, this show was awesome. Ive been to every Chicago show except one, and this one may have been the best top to bottom yet.

Coupla thoughts:

That building sucked. Best chants of the night were "This place sucks" and "Fron-tier Field-house!" I understand an MMA group was at the other building tonight, lets hope this was a one time experience.

Mike Elgin in the dark match was over like grover. Elgin and a wrestler named Ash have been at a few IWA shows of late, one local one on Fri nite. Apparently recommended to IWA by Whitmer, so the shot here seems reasonable. The 3 man stacked DVD was impressive.

MDogg landed in the front row on a dive, scraped up his leg and back pretty badly. And THEN proceeded to take the slam on the rail. Damn.

Joe caught his foot on the rope during his dive, crashed down in a very frightening manner. He looked up at the crowd with a "man, I just dodged a HUGE bullet" look when he was OK.

Briscoes were HUGE faces tonight - that crowd REALLY wanted that title change. Great, great match.

Jimmy and Colt BOTH hit a gusher. The veritable crimon mask, times two.

Looked like Punk was in the house, overlooking the proceeding from the balcony. Not 100% sure, but certainly looked like him from a distance.

This was a blowaway show.

Homicide is a pretty sensible choice for Joe's last opponent because no one still with ROH has as much history with Joe.

I'm pretty disappointed, though.  After all, no one still with ROH has as much history with Joe (possible exception of Daniels).  We've literally seen just about everything these two have to offer against each other and there's no real heat on them anymore since the Road of Homicide that saw Joe and 'Cide becoming buddy-buddy.  I really think ROH coulda done better.

it should have been Joe & Punk vs. Low Ki & Homicide :D. a man can dream right?

but seriously, Joe vs. Ebessan? Joe vs. Quiet Storm? Joe vs. Towel Boy? Joe vs. Unibrow Matt Striker? Joe vs. Brian XL? Joe vs. Trent Acid? Joe vs. Dan Maff? Joe vs. Carnage Crew? Joe vs. Ring Crew Express? Joe vs. All of Special K? Joe vs. Corino? Joe vs. Azrial? Joe vs. Becky Bayless in a tigger bitties contest?

the combinations are endless.

February 27th: ROH officials are getting ready to head to the UK for the close of the Fifth Year Festival this Saturday and Sunday in Liverpool. It really shows ROH's growth and means so much to everyone in ROH that the UK fans have made it possible for us to end the 5th birthday party in England. If you thought last year's UK tour was something, wait until you see what ROH has in store for you this weekend. There will be tickets available at the door on both nights. It will be a very emotional weekend as Samoa Joe says goodbye to ROH. Joe wanted to wrestle Homicide in his final match on Sunday. These two have been rivals basically since Joe started in ROH. Their rivalry paved way to a friendship that was built on a mutual respect. Homicide gained the victory when these two last had a singles match in January. Now Joe wants to compete against Homicide one last time in ROH. Saturday night is personal for Joe as he faces Nigel McGuinness. Joe was pinned by Nigel in a tag match last Saturday. Don't forget that Nigel also defeated Joe for the Pure Title in 2005. These two have had issues since Joe has been calling out NOAH. Now they will have one final match on Saturday. This will be positioned as the main event on Saturday's event. For more info on these events check the "Schedule" section on ROHwrestling.com.

February 27th: Matt Cross was taken out by the No Remorse Corps of Roderick Strong & Davey Richards last Saturday in Chicago. Austin Aries selected Cross as his tag partner against Strong & Richards earlier on the card. After the match, Strong attacked Cross. Strong powerbombed the already shaken up Cross on a guardrail that was flat across the entrance ramp. Strong has truly showed no remorse recently with his attacks on Aries, Delirious and Cross. It is obvious that Delirious wants revenge on Strong as he chased him in both Dayton and Chicago. This situation is just heating up.

February 27th: This weekend will see the ROH World Title defended in Tokyo, Japan while the ROH World Tag Team Titles will be defended in England. Who could have guessed this five years ago when ROH was born at the Murphy Rec Center?

February 27th: Many people are calling the latest ROH Video Wire at www.ROHvideos.com the best one yet. Watch it now for FREE to see Morishima in action and the split of Jack Evans/Austin Aries/Roderick Strong.

February 27th: The 15% sale on EVERY ITEM at www.ROHwrestling.com ends tomorrow night so don't miss out. This includes the red hot release of "Final Battle 2006" that features the emotional and historic Bryan Danielson vs. Homicide World Title Match. This is one of ROH's best shows from top to bottom. Check it out now to see the entire show including: Austin Aries, Roderick Strong & Delirious vs. CIMA, Shingo & Matt Sydal in a Dragon Gate Rules Match and if you liked the Wrestling Observer Newsletter match of the year you need to see this one; Jimmy Rave vs. Nigel McGuinness in an excellent match; Jay & Mark Briscoe vs. Chris Hero & Claudio Castagnoli in the show stealer; Colt Cabana & BJ Whitmer vs. Jimmy Jacobs & Brent Albright in a brawl; Adam Pearce vs. Ricky Reyes; Christopher Daniels vs. Jimmy Rave vs. El Generico vs. Davey Richards plus more including Samoa Joe and others!!! This is a must for all Homicide fans as the DVD has an exclusive, incredible video recapping his entire ROH career and the epic main event. Save 15% on this release until tomorrow night at ROHwrestling.com.

February 27th: We'll have the first talent lineups for 4/13 in Long Island, 4/14 in Edison, 4/27 in St. Paul and 4/28 in Chicago tomorrow in the ROHwrestling.com. You will be surprised by some of the debuts. All tickets for these shows are now 15% off until tomorrow night at ROHwrestling.com.

February 27th: The first matches for ROH's return to Detroit for a doubleshot on March 30th & 31st will be announced either late this week or early next week. There will be tens of thousands of wrestling fans coming in from all other the world that weekend and now they all have a chance to experience ROH live. ROH is bringing the best talent from all over the world to Detroit. Tickets for both events are now on sale at www.ROHwrestling.com, www.Tickets.com or by calling 215-781-2500. Here is the official talent list:

-The legendary Bruno Sammartino will be at the March 30th event only and he will be available for autographs!!!

some HUGE notes from Wrestler Observer

- The decision to give Morishima the belt was made in September.
- The original plan, as of the summer, was a Cide title win, followed by a reign through March, building to a rematch (Wrestlemania) where Danielson would regain the belt. After Dragons injury, this was scrapped.
- Cide was never considered long term, ever.
- Gabe realised a change was needed, noting fans would get bored of 30 minute technical title matches eventually, especially considering no one could do it as good as Dragon.
- The idea, or goal, is for Morishima to do 20 minute and under brawls, with Stan Hansen noted as the main inspiration.
- Joe will still be booked on "rare occasions for major shows", and "the idea of a Morishima vs. Joe title match at some point this year fits into that catagory".
- NOAH wants to start sending younger guys to America to make their name first, similar to Muto in WCW. KENTA was last years project, and now NOAH wants ROH to push Naomichi Marufuji and Takeshi Morishima as the main guys. It insinuated they would be regulars much like KENTA.
- Everyone sees it as a risky move, bu Gabe felt ROH was getting stale, and that a change was necessary, even though business is the best it has ever been.

it should have been Joe & Punk vs. Low Ki & Homicide :D. a man can dream right?

but seriously, Joe vs. Ebessan? Joe vs. Quiet Storm? Joe vs. Towel Boy? Joe vs. Unibrow Matt Striker? Joe vs. Brian XL? Joe vs. Trent Acid? Joe vs. Dan Maff? Joe vs. Carnage Crew? Joe vs. Ring Crew Express? Joe vs. All of Special K? Joe vs. Corino? Joe vs. Azrial? Joe vs. Becky Bayless in a tigger bitties contest?

the combinations are endless.

Joe vs. Christopher Street Connection..

that is honestly the LEAST likely since a Mr. Rob Feinstein manages them.

that joke was kinda in there... :P

- NOAH wants to start sending younger guys to America to make their name first, similar to Muto in WCW. KENTA was last years project, and now NOAH wants ROH to push Naomichi Marufuji and Takeshi Morishima as the main guys. It insinuated they would be regulars much like KENTA.sephy37
I'll take it.

February 28th: New ROH World Tag Team Champions Jay & Mark Briscoe are ready to secure their legacy in ROH. The Briscoes have already stated that they want to hold the titles longer than Austin Aries & Roderick Strong's record nine month reign. Jay & Mark are also looking to raise the international prestige of the belts. They will start in grand fashion this weekend. Saturday will see The Briscoes make their first defense when they take on the Dragon Gate duo of Naruki Doi & Shingo. The Briscoes have an open challenge for any team in Europe to wrestle them on Sunday. If Jay & Mark make it past the Dragon Gate duo with the belts they will defend them on Sunday. Jay & Mark Briscoe already defeated the best NOAH had to offer by winning the GHC Jr. Heavyweight Tag Titles in January. They are the current FIP Tag Team Champions. Now they want to defeat the best from Japan and Europe in one weekend to start their ROH World Tag Title reign. The Briscoes are on their way to proving without a doubt that they are the best duo in wrestling. Liverpool is guaranteed to see some great tag team wrestling this weekend!!! Check the main page of ROHwrestling.com for an article on the new champs including who they might face after Liverpool.

February 28th: The Dragon Gate office sent word that The Briscoes better not be too confident about getting past Doi & Shingo on Saturday. Dragon Gate officials have already stated that Doi & Shingo will defend the ROH World Tag Team Titles against Roderick Strong & Davey Richards on Sunday after they defeat The Briscoes on Saturday. Doi & Shingo want to take the belts to Detroit. This is going to be state of the art wrestling at its finest.

February 28th: This is going to be a huge weekend for the United Kingdom's own PAC when ROH returns to Liverpool for a two night stand this Saturday and Sunday. PAC is one of the most gifted high-flyers to ever grace the squared circle and he will be tested this weekend. PAC has a chance to secure bookings in the United States and make international headlines when he challenges Roderick Strong for FIP Heavyweight Title on Saturday. Anyone familiar with PAC's style knows how great this match against Strong will be. Sunday will see PAC against another athletic competitor when he battles Matt Sydal in a battle of aerial artists. If PAC wins the FIP Title on Saturday he will put it on the line against Sydal. PAC has an opportunity to become a star in ROH and the top guy in FIP in one weekend. It is all on the line for the UK's newest sensation!!!

They have wrestled each other in the most out of the way towns with small crowds all the way up to stealing the show in the Survival Of The Fittest finals last year. Now the rivalry will go international when they square off in a 2/3 Falls Match in Liverpool on Saturday. This one has all the makings of a c lassic.

Chris Vetter graces us with another review

'Dethroned' Review - 11/26/2006

By Chris Vetter

Ring of Honor returned to Edison, N.J., on Nov. 25, 2006, for “Dethroned.” The crowd is perhaps 800 fans. While this show featured pretty-much the same roster as the show the day before, “Black Friday Fallout,” this event was a MUCH, MUCH better show. The fans here in New Jersey were far hotter and more into the action, which just made the show much better all around.

On commentary are Dave Prazak and Jimmy (Gabe Sapolsky) Bower. I personally like Sapolsky on commentary, as he stresses the key storylines he wants to get across, and he likes to tell the past history of feuds in ROH. Sound, like on “BFF” is vastly improved over some recent releases. Overall, the “look” of the DVD is professional.

* The DVD opens with Homicide, Samoa Joe and Julius Smokes cutting a backstage promo, ripping on the Briscoes. Smokes called them ‘country boys’ and he said they were going to “deep fry them like Crisco.” Joe sarcastically said, “it’s time to man up, b!tches.”

1. Brent Albright defeats El Generico at 6:40. Decent opener. The fans were hot and chanted for Albright. Albright easily shoved Generico to the mat, and he overpowered him in a test of strength. Generico hit his quick armdrags, a spin kick to the face, and they had a standoff. Albright came back with an Exploder Suplex, a hard European Uppercut, and a gutwrench suplex for a nearfall at 6:30. Albright hit his running knee, wrapping around through the ropes, for a nearfall, and he was in charge.

Generico came back with a top-rope crossbody block for a nearfall, then a Tornado DDT and a Yakuza Kick, getting a rollup for a nearfall at 6:00. Albright hit a German Suplex, a half-nelson suplex, then he applied the Crowbar/Fujiwara Armbar, and Generico tapped out. Good but short, and I had hoped Generico would get to show off more of his dazzling offense. *3/4

2. Shane Hagadorn defeats Bobby Dempsey at 2:15. These are the ROH students, and I’m still indifferent to their matches. Dempsey is still too heavy, and he has curly blonde hair. Dempsey attacked from behind and hit some stiff forearms and a headbutt. Hagadorn hit a boot to the top of the head for a nearfall, and he choked Dempsey with his shirt. Dempsey hit a rolling Tumbleweed in the corner for a nearfall. Hagadorn pulled out some brass knuckles, but the referee confiscated them; Hagadorn pulled out a second pair, and he hit Dempsey with them, to score the tainted pin. Skippable. 1/4*

3. Delirious defeats Jason Blade at 9:25. Good match with some good energy. Blade wore his plain white trunks. Delirious got a huge pop, and he went crazy at the bell. Blade worked the left arm and he applied a hammerlock. Delirious did some quick reversals and hit a shoulder tackle. Blade hit some nice deep armdrags, and Bower really put over how much Blade has improved. Delirious applied a Camel Clutch at 3:30, then he hit some chops. Blade came back with a nice standing dropkick to the face, then he hit a nice T-Bone Suplex for a nearfall and a sideslam for a nearfall. The crowd rallied for Delirious.

Delirious dove through the ropes to the floor. Bower & Prazak talked about wrestlers who started out at the bottom of ROH and worked their way to the top of the card. Delirious hit a running Kawada Kick to the face. Blade hit a nice flip dive to the floor at 7:00, and he was in charge. In the ring, Blade hit a powerslam for a nearfall, but he screwed up a move off the ropes. The cameras tried to change positions quickly to cover the mistake, but fans chanted, “you f---ed up.” (I hate that chant, and I never participate.)

Delirious hit a neckbreaker off the ropes, but he missed the Shadows Over Hell backsplash. Blade immediately hit two back suplexes and a superkick for a nearfall. Delirious applied the Cobra Stretch, and Blade tapped out! Good match, as Delirious gave him plenty of offense, although I never sensed that the crowd thought Blade really was going to win. **1/2

* Davey Richards cut a backstage promo, saying he came out of nowhere on his first night and beat Jimmy Rave. Since day 1, he’s had obstacles thrown at him. He talked about being KENTA’s protégé, and that he proved he had what it took. Richards said the biggest obstacle for him now is beating Austin Aries.

4. Jimmy Jacobs (w/Lacey) vs. B.J. Whitmer brawled for 13:00. They IMMEDIATELY traded stiff forearms, and they each shoved the referee. Whitmer hit a Mafia Kick. They brawled to the floor, where Jacobs slammed Whitmer into the guardrail. Bower mistakenly said this is the first time they’ve been in the ring since Jacobs broke Whitmer’s foot. (They ‘battled’ in the gauntlet one night earlier, Gabe!) Jacobs hit a hurricanrana off the guardrail to the floor at 3:30, and he blew kisses at Lacey. They continued to brawl on the floor, with Whitmer hitting an Exploder Suplex onto the metal ramp! OUCH!

Whitmer then hit a powerbomb across the top of the guardrail! They re-entered the ring, and the crowd was HOT. Jacobs hit a spear, and they were both down. Jacobs pulled out a spike, and he jabbed Whitmer repeatedly with it at 6:00, cutting Whitmer open, and B.J. was bleeding. Jacobs spiked the referee, and put ‘warpaint’ on his face with Whitmer’s blood! Lacey hopped on the ring apron, and Whitmer tried to chase her. Jacobs hit a basement dropkick, then a standing neckbreaker at 9:00 and a Reverse Rana.

Whitmer came back with a big clothesline, and the crowd was HOT, chanting, “This is awesome!” They traded stiff forearms, then some slaps, and Whitmer hit a headbutt, and they were both down. Lacey hopped in the ring, and she screamed at Jacobs! Lacey hit a Field Goal kick on Whitmer and she slapped him! Out of nowhere, Haze ran in the ring at 12:00 and she attacked Lacey! The women brawled briefly until Lacey ran away. Several ROH students hit the ring to separate Jacobs and Whitmer, so this match ended in a draw. Fans chanted, “Let them fight!” Another match with great energy and a lively crowd, and this feud is definitely not over! ***1/4

5. Roderick Strong defeats Shingo at 10:45 to retain the FIP title. Good match. Strong got on the mic and said that Shingo put him through a table in Chicago, so he was going to make tables legal in this match. Strong hit a big boot, some stiff forearms, and they brawled to the floor, where Strong tossed Shingo into the guardrail. Shingo dropped him throat-first across the guardrail. In the ring, Strong hit a Falcon Arrow for a nearfall. Shingo swung Strong around and planted him on the mat. Shingo took over with some chokes and stomps, then a low blow mule kick at 3:30.

Shingo applied an Anaconda Vice on the mat, but Strong reached the ropes. Shingo hit a chairshot to the back, then he slammed Strong’s head into a chair in the corner. Strong hit a back suplex on the ring apron, and Strong hit a running forearm off the apron to the floor. They fought some more on the floor. In the ring, Shingo hit a powerbomb into the corner at 7:00. Strong hit a top-rope superplex, a backbreaker over his knee, and he applied a Boston Crab, but Shingo reached the ropes.

They traded stiff forearms, and Shingo hit a hard clothesline, then a gutwrench sitdown powerbomb for a nearfall. Cool move. Shingo hit a DDT onto an open chair for a nearfall at 10:00. However, Strong hit his Gorilla Press Gutbuster over the knees, a chairshot to the head, a big boot, and he nailed the Gibson Driver/butterfly powerbomb onto a folded chair in the ring, to score the pin. Good match, and Shingo looked better here than I’ve seen so far. ***

6. Matt Sydal & Christopher Daniels defeat Chris Hero & Claudio Castagnoli (the Kings of Wrestling) at 22:45 to win the ROH tag titles. Excellent match. Fans chanted, “New f’n champs,” and Hero jawed at the fans, and the crowd was HOT. Hero and Daniels started, with Daniels hitting some quick armdrags; the heels stalled on the floor and hugged. Daniels and Hero traded armholds; Hero slapped him in the face and celebrated. Daniels returned the slap. Sydal entered and he hit a headscissors takedown and a back heel kick on Claudio at 5:30, and the heels bailed again. Sydal kept out-maneuvering both heels. Daniels hit a headscissors takedown on Hero, then he gave Claudio a backbody drop to the floor. Daniels tossed Sydal onto both KOW on the floor at 8:00!

Sydal & Daniels were dominating, and they hit a team elbow drop move. Sydal hit a guillotine legdrop. Claudio made a blind tag, and he jumped Daniels at 10:30. Hero choked Daniels, and the match slowed down as the champs worked over Daniels. Hero hit his rolling senton for a nearfall, and the heels made quick tags. Claudio hit a European Uppercut to the back, then a Mafia Kick to the side of the head for a nearfall. Daniels hit an STO, and he made the hot tag to Sydal at 16:30. Sydal hit a headscissors takedown on Hero, then one on Claudio! In a nice spot, Sydal jumped up onto Claudio’s shoulders, hopped down, and hit a Tornado DDT, which absolutely POPPED the crowd!

Hero hit a vertical release suplex on Sydal for a nearfall, and the heels regained control of the match. Daniels hit a double clothesline, then an Iconoclasm/flip slam out of the corner on Castagnoli. Daniels hit the Best Moonsault Ever on Hero, but the ref told Daniels that Hero wasn’t the legal man. Daniels hit an Arabian Press to the floor on Castagnoli at 19:00. Hero hit a flip dive to the floor. Sydal hit a top-rope moonsault to the floor. In the ring, Claudio hit a flying European Uppercut on Daniels; Sydal hit an enziguri on Claudio; Hero hit a boot on Sydal; Daniels hit a Flatliner on Hero, and all four were down!

Daniels got a Victory Roll on Hero for a believable nearfall at 21:30! The heels hit a Team Heroes Welcome/spinning faceplant on Daniels, but Sydal made the save. Sydal got his Floatover Famouser on Hero, and he went for a top-rope Shooting Star Press, but Claudio caught him with a European Uppercut on his way down! The KOW went for the “Kings Reign Supreme”/team powerbomb, but Daniels hit Hero! Sydal immediately hit a hurricanrana with a flash rollup on Claudio to score the pin! New champs! ***1/2

* The crowd popped for the title change, as they again chanted, “New F’n champs!” Sydal and Daniels celebrated with the belts in the ring. Hero and Claudio pouted, and fans chanted, “Don’t come back!” at them. Daniels got on the mic and made an open challenge to anyone to come after their belts. A replay of the finishing spot aired. Cool. Their was EXTENDED footage of the celebration before Sydal & Daniels headed to the back.

* It’s intermission time with Gary Michael Cappetta! GMC interviewed the Briscoes, who mockingly congratulated the new tag champs, but they said those two are now targets.

7. Nigel McGuinness defeats Jimmy Rave at 19:28. Good mat-based match. The crowd taunted Rave (far more than a day earlier). They opened with basic standing reversals as Bower went over the history between these two. Nigel applied a Cobra Clutch on the mat, but Rave escaped. Nigel hit a back suplex at 4:00, and he worked over Rave’s right arm. Nigel hit a legdrop on the arm, and he stretched Rave’s arms, and he was in control. Nigel applied a neat arm submission hold, leaning backward on Rave’s arm, and Rave screamed in pain. Rave hit a backbreaker over his knee at 7:30, and the crowd booed him.

They traded strikes and chops, and Rave applied an abdominal stretch on the mat, and the crowd rallied for McGuinness. Rave hit a back suplex, some chokes and punches, and Nigel came back with some European Uppercuts, then a short-arm clothesline for a nearfall at 12:30. Nigel hit his kick to the back & inverted DDT combo out of the corner for a nearfall. Rave hit a swinging neckbreaker, but he couldn’t hit the Greetings From Atlanta (which Bower & Prazak now called it “the Pedigree” throughout the match.) Rave hit a running knee. Nigel hit a European Uppercut in the corner, and Rave bailed. Rave hit a uranage on the ring apron. On the floor, he whipped Nigel into the guardrails.

Nigel came back with a short-arm clothesline on the floor, then another one in the ring for a nearfall at 17:00. Nigel hit the Tower of London/stunner out of the ropes for a believable nearfall. Rave hit a Tornado DDT, and they were both down. They traded stiff forearms, then they traded superkicks! Rave hit a spear, then the Pedigree, for a believable nearfall. Nigel hit his rebound clothesline from the ropes for the pin. ***

* Nigel got on the mic and said he respects Rave, and they shook hands. Nigel got a roll of toilet paper, snuck up on Rave, and threw it at him! Rave attacked Nigel, looking legit ticked off, and he swore repeatedly at Nigel. Christopher Daniels came out and separated them. Rave headed to the back, grabbed his luggage, and he immediately left the arena! The crowd could see him walking out, sulking.

8. Davey Richards defeats Austin Aries at 17:07. Good match. Bower noted that Aries won their first meeting at GBH, Night 1, in September. They traded intense mat holds as Prazak talked about how he’s frequently compared Richards to Aries. Richards applied a headscissorslock, then he avoided Aries’ basement dropkick. Aries hit a handspring-back-elbow at 3:30. Richards went for his bridge-backward kick, but Aries blocked it, and Aries hit a kick to the chest. Richards went for his handspring-back-enziguri, but Aries blocked that move too, by hitting a dropkick to the back. Prazak noted they are doing a good job of countering each other’s key offense.

Richards hit his Alarm Clock/flip-up kick to the chest. Aries dove through the ropes and barreled into Richards on the floor! In the ring, Aries went for the Power Drive elbow, but he missed. Richards hit some kicks to Aries’ arm & elbow, and he hit a Saito Suplex at 7:00. Aries immediately began clutching his elbow. Richards mockingly went for a Power Drive elbow, and he worked the left arm & elbow. Richards applied a cross-armbreaker, but Aries reached the ropes. Bower began talking about his definition of who is an “ROH legend.” Who cares?

Richards hit a belly-to-belly overhead suplex, but he missed a missile dropkick at 10:30. Aries hit a Finlay Roll, a missile dropkick, and a running dropkick in the corner for a nearfall. Aries stayed on top with his catapult body press and a Lionsault for a nearfall. Richards hit the handspring-back-elbow, but he barely grazed Aries. Richards hit a nice Divorce Court Armbreaker, and he turned it into a Fujiwara Armbar with a nice bridge at 13:00. Cool. Richards hit some Kawada kicks. Aries came back with a Crucifix Takedown for a nearfall, and he applied the Rings of Saturn, then rolled Richards over for a nearfall. They traded stiff forearms, and Richards hit an enziguri and a DDT for a nearfall.

Aries hit a butterfly suplex. Richards hit some right & left kicks. Aries hit a brainbuster for a nearfall at 16:30. Aries went for the 450 Splash, but he missed. Richards hit a DDT, and he applied an arm submission hold – the camera angle didn’t help me see what it was – and Aries tapped out! Very good, intense mat-based match. ***1/2

* Backstage with Lacey, who said that Jimmy Jacobs has disappointed her once again. She said it’s obvious she needs to find someone bigger and stronger. She badmouthed both Colt Cabana and Daizee Haze, and she proclaimed herself the best women’s wrestler in ROH.

9. Homicide & Samoa Joe (w/Julius Smokes) defeat Mark & Jay Briscoe at 12:43 in an elimination-style street fight. Good, hard-hitting brawl. The crowd was HOT for this match, and they loudly chanted, “Joe’s gonna kill you!” All four immediately fought, and the faces dove to the floor on the Briscoes. The faces whipped the Briscoes into the guardrails. The Briscoes came back by hitting simultaneous flip dives over the top rope onto the faces. In the ring, the Briscoes hit simultaneous Facewashes in the corner on Joe for a nearfall. Joe hit a senton. Homicide hit a basement dropkick to Mark’s face. Jay was bleeding already from the mouth.

Joe hit a Giant Swing on the floor on Mark, and Mark’s head hit some chairs at 4:00! They all fought into the crowd. Homicide & Joe hit a “con-chair-to” on Mark Briscoe! Joe hit a running clothesline. In a fun spot, Joe put on a hockey helmet and grabbed a hockey stick, and he ‘checked’ one of the Briscoes into the hockey boards at 7:00! Mark climbed on top of the scaffolding above the entrance ramp! Mark hit an UNBELIEVABLE Shooting Star Press off the scaffolding onto Joe & Homicide! The crowd chanted, “Holy sh!t!” and “This is awesome!”

Jay suplexed Homicide onto some open chairs. Mark hit a standing moonsault on Joe. In the ring, Homicide hit an Ace Crusher for a nearfall at 10:00, then some rolling suplexes. Jay hit a Falcon Arrow slam for a nearfall on Homicide. Joe hit a hard clothesline on Mark in the ring, then a standing powerbomb on Jay for a nearfall. Jay and Joe fought on the floor, while Homicide and Mark fought in the ring. Julius Smokes lit a cigar, and he handed it to Homicide, who BURNED Mark Briscoe with it. Joe hit a Musclebuster on one Briscoe, at the same time Homicide hit the Copkillah on the other Briscoe, and we had simultaneous pins to end this match. Fans chanted, “ROH!” and “Next World champ!” Very good match. ***1/4

* Replays aired of Mark’s awesome Shooting Star Press, then the finishing sequence. Joe told Homicide that he might be facing him at Final Battle.

Final thoughts: DVD runs 2 hours, 46 minutes. This was a very satisfying show, and it topped “Black Friday Fallout” in virtually every way. (Although the main event of BFF topped anything here). The crowd was hot throughout the show, and the wrestling was just more energized because of it.

I love when a title change has MEANING. The decision to show extra footage of Sydal & Daniels celebrating with their newly won titles was the right move. It sends home the message to viewers that what they just saw was a BIG DEAL. (I remember when a certain West Coast promotion had a title change to end the show in fall 2005, with Kevin Steen defeating A.J. Styles, and the DVD ended three seconds later, before viewers even had a chance to soak in the title change.)

I’ll give the tag title match the nod for best of the show, largely based on the title switch. I really liked Aries-Richards a lot, and that earns second best. Third-best match goes to the energetic main event, although I feel like the Briscoes were squashed a bit. The crowd loved the hardcore brawling in this one. Likewise, the crowd loved the brawling in Whitmer vs. Jacobs, and that earned fourth-best.

I enjoyed the Nigel-Rave match, but I fully expect many ROH fans will say I underrated the match. I like Nigel, but not as much as most diehard ROH viewers.

I can’t stress enough how much the crowd helped this show. The New Jersey crowd was hot most of the night, and it made the matches so much more fun to watch. While the N.Y. crowd sat quietly during Rave’s match a day earlier, this crowd was eager to taunt him and get under his skin.

The under card was fine. Jason Blade easily had his best match in ROH, even with the messed up move. The students match was short and didn’t overstay its welcome. Generico-Albright needed to be closer to 11-13 minutes long so they could get in all their offense.

I’ve handed out very few “thumbs up” reviews of ROH DVDs from their October and November shows, but this one has earned a “thumbs up” rating. If you were only getting one or two of the ROH DVDs from November 2006, get this one and “Honor Reclaims Boston.” Purchase this at www.rohwrestling.com for $20.

Reason y Joe was pulled from ROH:

- TNA made the decision to pull Joe back in December. They gave ROH 4 months to to finish him up. TNA was angry because Joe was making alot less pay working ROH then he does for the indy dates that TNA gets for him. They were also upset at the fact that he wasn't in more main event matches

We knew that a month ago, though I wasn't sure about the main event thing.

The Fifth Year Festival has lived up to the hype in Manhattan, Philadelphia, Dayton and Chicago. Now ROH's 5th birthday party will come to a close in the United Kingdom at the The Liverpool Olympia on West Derby Road in Liverpool, L6 9BY this Saturday and Sunday. There will be plenty of tickets available at the door on both nights including some great seats. Saturday's event has a belltime of 6pm and Sunday starts at 5pm.

ROH will pull out all the stops to close the Fifth Year Festival with a bang. Five years ago ROH started as a small indy in a rundown Murphy Rec Center in South Philly. Now thanks to your support ROH will celebrate its 5th birthday in England. These will be memorable and emotional shows as Samoa Joe's almost five year ROH career will come to a close. Joe will be in the main event on each night and will be faced with two of his toughest all time rivals in ROH. This weekend in Liverpool will see it all from title matches to violent wars to the best wrestling going today. Here is a quick look at whatever everyone has at stake in Liverpool:

-Samoa Joe: This "ROH Legend" will say farewell to the company that he made. It will be an emotional weekend for Joe, but not an easy one. Joe will be faced with two of his toughest rivals throughout ROH history. Saturday will see Samoa Joe vs. England's own Nigel McGuinness. The feud between these two has really intensified in recent months as part of the Joe vs. NOAH feud. These two even had two pull apart brawls on 2/16 in Manhattan. McGuinness pinned Joe in a tag match last week in Chicago. He also defeated Joe for the Pure Title back in 2005. Now Joe is looking to defeat Nigel to end the feud in Nigel's native land. Joe has requested to face Homicide in his final match on Sunday. These two have been rivals basically since Joe started in ROH. The rivalry has paved way for a mutual respect that has seen a friendship develop. Homicide defeated Joe in a ROH World Title Match last January. Now Joe wants to take the final chapter. While these two respect each other and have been tag partners recently, their competitive nature will drive both to try to win in the final ROH match ever between them. Will Joe go out 2-0?

-Nigel McGuinness: He proved to be England's favorite son at the debut Liverpool event last August when he took Bryan Danielson to the limit. However, McGuinness wasn't able to give his home country fans the big win. Now McGuinness will have two huge matches and he is determined to score some huge victories in his home country. Saturday will be the Samoa Joe match. Can the rebound lariat give Nigel another win over Joe? Sunday will be the end of the intense McGuinness vs. Jimmy Rave feud when they settle things in a Fight Without Honor. This is an issue about respect and now ROH's biggest type of grudge match is coming to Liverpool. You can expect an all out war as McGuinness returns to England. Can Nigel get the big win in England?

-ROH World Tag Team Champions Jay & Mark Briscoe- The Briscoes captured the World Tag Titles last week in Chicago and now they will make their first defenses in Liverpool. Saturday will see a truly international contest as The Briscoes defend against the Dragon Gate duo of Shingo & Doi in a first time ever match between four excellent athletic competitors. Jay & Mark have challenged any team in Europe to face them on Sunday and if they make it past Saturday with the belts they will put them on the line on Sunday. The Briscoes want to add to the international prestige of the ROH World Tag Titles by defeating the best from Japan and Europe this weekend in Liverpool. Will The Briscoes dominate the world?

-FIP Heavyweight Champion Roderick Strong & Davey Richards: This is a very important weekend for the No Remorse Corps. Strong will make the FIP belt into a World Title on Saturday when he puts it on the line against UK's sensational high-flyer PAC. Davey Richards will face Homicide for the first time ever. This one promises to be very physical. Strong & Richards will team to take on the Dragon Gate duo of Shingo & Doi on Sunday. These all could be show stealers!!! Will the No Remorse Corps continue to rise?

-Dragon Gate's Naruki Doi & Shingo: Two of Dragon Gate's top athletes are coming to England with one goal in mind. They want the ROH World Tag Team Titles. Shingo's stay in ROH will be coming to a close in the next few months before heading back to Japan fulltime. In order for Shingo's ROH run to be a success he needs to win a title. Saturday could be his last shot. The Dragon Gate office has already sent word that Doi & Shingo will put the belts on the line against Richards & Strong on Sunday if they win them on Saturday. This will give both nights state of the art tag team action!!! Can Doi & Shingo bring the ROH World Tag Titles to Dragon Gate?

-Homicide with Julius Smokes: Don't miss this chance to see "ROH Legend" Homicide and his cornerman Julius Smokes live!!! If you thought Smokes was something on The Wrestling Channel and on DVD wait until you see him live. Who will win the final Homicide vs. Joe match?

-Matt Sydal: This former ROH World Tag Team Champion will see his career long rivalry with Delirious go international as they face off in a 2/3 Falls Match. This two always deliver and it will be special for both of them to bring the rivalry to England. Matt Sydal will test his skills against PAC on Sunday in a battle of two of the best high-flyers going today. Both these matches will be spectacular!!! Can Sydal defeat Delirious in Liverpool?

-BJ Whitmer and Jimmy Jacobs: The violent and brutal feud pitting Whitmer vs. Jacobs comes to England. Night one will see a tag match with Whitmer & Colt Cabana vs. Jimmy Jacobs & Jimmy Rave. Whitmer also wants to get his hands on Rave since Rave cheated to defeat him in Chicago. Sunday is sure to be wild when Whitmer and Jacobs square off in a Falls Count Anywhere Match. These two always bring the fight when they face each other. How violent will it get this weekend?

-Delirious: The crazed masked man wants to prove he is the better man against Sydal on Saturday. Sunday will see an interesting match as Delirious takes on Colt Cabana. This one is sure to be entertaining. Can Delirious beat Sydal in two falls?

-Colt Cabana: He is one of the most popular athletes in England. Cabana will have one last chance to get his hands on Jacobs on Saturday in the tag match. These two had one of the most bloody bouts in ROH history last week in Chicago. What kind of match will Cabana vs. Delirious be?

-Jimmy Rave: The now highly aggressive Rave had a rough first outing in England with losses to Davey Richards and Doug Williams. Not only that, Rave was disrespected by the UK fans. Now Rave wants to ruin McGuinness' homecoming by winning the Fight Without Honor on Sunday. This is going to be beyond hardcore. Can Rave upset the UK fans and win the feud against Nigel?

-Allison Danger & Sara Del Rey: The UK will be treated to women's wrestling at its best with Danger vs. Del Rey on Saturday. Word has it some native talent is not happy about being snubbed. SHIMMER action is coming to Liverpool on both nights!!! Who will Danger and Del Rey face on Sunday?

-PAC: UK's hottest sensation is ready for his ROH debut this weekend. PAC will be given the opportunity to make his reputation in ROH and steal the show on both nights. He might even be the top man in FIP if he can defeat Roderick Strong on Saturday for the FIP Heavyweight Title. Will PAC do or die?

If you thought "Unified" and "Anarchy In The UK" were something last August, wait until you see what ROH has in store for you as the Fifth Year Festival and Samoa Joe farewell tour come to a close. ROH is bringing over more talent to thank you for making all this possible. We'll see you in Liverpool this Saturday and Sunday!!! Tickets will be available at the door on both nights. Everyone will be buzzing about these shows on Monday. Don't miss your chance to see ROH live and experience the Fifth Year Festival.

Reason y Joe was pulled from ROH:

- TNA made the decision to pull Joe back in December. They gave ROH 4 months to to finish him up. TNA was angry because Joe was making alot less pay working ROH then he does for the indy dates that TNA gets for him. They were also upset at the fact that he wasn't in more main event matches

gerweck.net

WOW. thats all i can say

The_Great_One2

that's dumb about the main event matches. i look at the past year and he main evented 15/42 shows and that's A LOT. he actually had other main events booked but he got injured wrestling for *shock* TNA twice. plus he was out of all of january (except for Hell Freezes Over) and february because of a staff infection.

and TNA upset that ROH pays less than TNA's indy dates? WHY?!?!? Joe is getting paid by TNA to be there and by the indy promotion which is usually UWF or whatever it's called and is basicly TNA's house shows. that's balls. like Joe cares about the money.

and uh, WSX > ROH? what?

The main event thing is really borderline idiocy.  2005, sure, Joe was kinda aimless, especially after dropping the Pure Title.  However, last year he was a central figure in the CZW feud (where there were often cases where ROH went out of their way to protect him from injury) and the Road of Homicide.  He also had a big-time feud for the ROH title with Danielson and was set up to have a big feud with NOAH representatives.  The only guys I can think of that headlined more shows last year would be Danielson, the freakin champ, and maybe Homicide.

Joe would even be a more central figure in ROH still, if ROH didn't have to worry about TNA going and doing something crazy like pulling him.

Also, the rumor mill is now flying that TNA is very close from pulling the total power-play.  Mostly, its the less-reputable sites, though, so who knows.  The fortunate thing is that ROH is much more prepared should that happen than they were the last time.

Dr. Keith Lipinski Show - Free S***! Edition Recap with Ring Of Honor's Gabe Sapolsky
Recap by Brian Cooter, http://www.bigvanvader.com

Gabe Sapolsky Recap

Dr. Keith asks about Wrestling Observer winner for best booker Gabe Sapolsky for his views on current ROH Heavyweight Champion Takeshi Morishima. Gabe calls Morishima a great talent and a great opportunity for ROH and chose him to represent the company as to not go stale which Gabe says had happened with the old ECW, "They put the same product on year after year, it got stale after awhile and it got old." Gabe then puts over the unique aspect of having a super heavyweight on top, Keith says they also haven't had many guys with cowboy hats in the promotion, Gabe replies saying that every promotion should have at least ten wrestlers with cowboy hats, Keith thinks twelve and a half.

Gabe says that Kevin Steen and El Generico will be bought back in the promotion but isn't sure whether they'll be full time or not. He also states how impressed he is with them both, particularly the improvements Steen has made, and also puts over Matt Cross.

Keith asks if the money feuds for 2007 will be the chase for Morishima's title and the ROH gang wars? Gabe says the gang wars won't be as emotional as the ROH-CZW feud but will have great matches and a great story. Gabe also states that the gang wars feud won't be affected by any wrestlers being injured or being in TNA.

The good doctor asks about Dragon Gate. Gabe hopes to be able to book more Japanese talent after the July dates in Japan. Gabe says that the shows in Japan will be totally unlike the US ones. Gabe says ROH will focus on the younger guys as the Japanese legends have priced themselves too high.

Keith asks Gabe about his favorite Samoa Joe moment. Gabe says that there might not even be an ROH without Samoa Joe, putting over the first Low-Ki match, the CM Punk one hour matchs and the Kobashi match. Keith asks how the Morishima match held up to the Kobashi match? Gabe puts over the excellent ROH crowd who made the match. Gabe says that Morishima and KENTA will be back in April and states that "we're not putting the belts on guys that won't be available to us."

Gabe confirms that he has his top talent 'locked in' at the moment. He puts a lot of credit to WSX as a unique product and says at least it's not a rip-off of WWE like 'another product.' Asked about Homicide's reign, Gabe says it was always intended to be short but says it was still credible. He likens his reign to Rocky II where the story is winning the belt, then when he wins, it's over.

Keith asks if there's any plans to move any further west. Gabe states Japan, but not any further west in the US at the moment. Keith asks about good booking. Gabe says that usually what he enjoys, the fans enjoy. Keith talks about the last Chicago show, Gabe asks if that was when Delirious ripped Dr. Keith's shirt off? Gabe says he made sure that was on the DVD!

On Mike Awesome and Doug ????. Gabe didn't know Mike too well but says he was nice and respectful. On Doug he said they were close friends for a number of years and he was a good person and has a lot of fond memories.

Keith then moves on to Jake Roberts with Gabe telling the story of Jake holding FIP up for more money and Gabe calling his bluff and escorting Jake out the building. On Bryan Danielson, Gabe hopes to see him back by early summer.

Keith asks how ROH will grow in the future with DVD's in the stores or PPV's. Gabe says they will take it one step at a time and says they have come such a long way in five years. Gabe says that ROH is his dream job. On Larry Sweeney, Gabe intends to just use him as a manager for the time being but down the line he could see him wrestling when the time is right.

Gabe talks about returning to the UK later in the year and intends to go over with their 'A' game. Chicago superstar Alex 'Sugarfoot' Payne is discussed as is the potential of a trios title. Gabe plugs the Chicago Spectacular Night 2 DVD with Dr. Keith getting his shirt re-opened by Delirious. Keith still pines for an uncensored Supercard Of Honor DVD with the 'Dr. Keith' chant. Checkout http://www.rohwrestling.com for more ROH Goodness, and the Video wire from the Chicago show is now up at http://www.rohvideos.com. Fantastic interview!

Plus this week: Learn Cowboy Bill Barlow's status in the gay community, and talk of squirrels, smurfs, Japanese rock act Shonen Knife, New Jack, booze, WrestleMania, Hydra speaking sand script and Girl Scout Cookies! REJOYCE!

In addition Larry Sweeney has purchased advertising time on the Dr. Keith Show this week to send a message to that "pipsqueak" Bryan Alvarez regarding Bryan's accepting Larry's "Sweet N Sour Open Challenge" for the debut of Fight Sports Midwest at the Camelot Sportsplex in Portage, Indiana on Saturday March 17th. Bryan has accepted but threatened to take Sweeney's prestigious ICWICWA Tex-Arkana Television Championship back to Seattle and re-name it the Frank A. Gotch Collar & Elbow Championship. Check out http://www.myspace.com/fightsportsmidwest for more information on this huge show headlined by Samoa Joe vs. Eddie Kingston!

March 31st, 2006 saw ROH present one of its best shows ever with the first "Supercard Of Honor" in Chicago. The event will be remembered for the pure Dragon Gate six man match pitting Do Fixer vs. Blood Generation that won match of the year in The Wrestling Observer Newsletter. Exactly one year later ROH will present "Supercard Of Honor II" in Detroit on March 31st. The card will once again feature a pure Dragon Gate six man.

This year Detroit will witness CIMA, Shingo & Susumu Yokosuka vs. Dragon Kid, Ryo Saito & Masaaki Mochizuki. If you thought last year was something wait until you see what these Dragon Gate athletes have in store for Detroit on March 31st. They know expectations will be high. They are coming once again to try to steal the show.

Tickets are now on sale for this event at ROHwrestling.com, Tickets.com or by calling 215-781-2500. There will be more big match announcements for this huge weekend soon in the ROHwrestling.com Newswire.

3/3 Results: (note - wrestlemag.com results in italics)

- ROH are using the same set that they brought over for Unified last year. Todd Sinclair is there as referee also.

- All floor seating appears to be sold out, and most of the lower tiered seats too. Quite a few empty seats in the upper sections though.

1. Homicide def. Richards. Good match, Davey hit a nice Lyger bomb. Cide was over huge and did the 3 Amigos and Frog Splash to Eddie chats and a tope con hilo onto the guardrail.

- Homicide vs Davey Richards opened the show. Huge pop for Homicide. He picked up the win after he hit Richards with a Cop Killa. It was one of those openers where they hit every big move they have, which hopefully doesn’t kill the crowd later in the show.

2. Sara Del Ray def. Alison Danger with a package suplex. Ally has new ring gear, an AJ-style hooded jacket. Good match and both girls killed themselves.

- Sara Del Rey beat Allison Danger after a cradle suplex. Pretty basic match. The only thing that got actual heat rather than patronizing clapping was Del Ray’s kicks.

3. Jacobs and Rave def. Cabana and BJ after Jacobs hits a sliced bread on BJ. Colt's 'fro wasn't enough to save them.

- Jimmy Rave & Jimmy Jacobs beat Colt Cabana & BJ Whitmer. This started out as a brawl before turning into a wrestling match. Cabana was streets ahead of the others in this one. During the match, Whitmer hit Jacobs with a powerbomb onto the guard rails. Finish came with Jacobs hitting Whitmer with the Contracode for the win.

4. Matt Sydal beats Delirious 2/3 falls with a flux capacitor after a ref bump.

- Matt Sydal beat Delirious in a 2/3 Falls match. Sydal took the first fall after a low blow to Delirious and a small package. Delirious won the second fall with the Cobra Stretch, making it 1-1. Sydal took the third fall after pushing the referee into the ropes, crotching Delirious who was on the top rope. Sydal then hit a belly-to-belly suplex from the top to win 2-1. Much better than their match at Suffocation which I reviewed on the site this week.

- Jetta and Eden Black (two British based females for those reading who may be unfamiliar with them)  cut a promo, challenging Sara Del Ray and Allison Danger to a match tomorrow night. Terrible promo.

5. Roderick Strong def. Pac with the Gibson driver. Awesome match, move of the night by Pac, a twisting shooting star to the floor. This guy is GOOD.

- Roderick Strong beat Pac. Really good match. Strong really impressed, and these two were perfect for each other. During the match, Pac was thrown back first against the ring post, and took a back breaker on the ring apron. Pac also hit an insane corkscrew dive into the crowd on Strong. Pac also hit a 450 splash but Strong kicked out, and soon after hit a Gibon Driver to retain the FIP Heavyweight Title.

- Naruki Doi & Shingo beat Jay & Mark Briscoe to become the new ROH Tag Team Champions. Incredible match. All four threw out an amazing amount of cool spots. After the match, the Briscoes speak. Jay challenges Mark to a match, Mark accepts.

The new champions will take on Roderick Strong & Davey Richards on tomorrow night’s show, while Jay Briscoe vs Mark Briscoe will also happen tomorrow night.

New Tag Champions Crowned In UK
Saturday, March 03, 2007

In a shocker, Jay & Mark Briscoe lost the ROH World Tag Titles in their first title defense. March 3rd in Liverpool saw the Dragon Gate team of Naruki Doi & Shingo defeat The Briscoes to capture the belts. This has created a unique situation that is sure to be discussed. All of ROH's champions now work for Japanese wrestling promotions.

Doi & Shingo will immediately put the belts on the line against the No Remorse Corps of Roderick Strong & Davey Richards on March 4th. The winner of this match will give Jay & Mark Briscoe their rematch at "All Star Extravaganza III" on March 30th in Detroit. We'll have more on this situation soon

ROHWrestling.com

- Samoa Joe beat Nigel McGuinness with the choke after earlier hitting a Muscle Buster on the ring apron. Referees came to help McGuinness to the back. Joe demanded a handshake, but Nigel slapped him in the face instead. He hit another Muscle Buster but McGuinness kicked out before finally tapping out. An amazing main event.

After the match, Joe put over both McGuinness and Ring of Honor, but that’s not even beginning to get into this. Truly amazing, and extremely emotional. I’ll have a detailed recap from tonight’s show up on the site tomorrow morning to do this justice.

I thought this was your bad idea of a joke, but This seems a bit too elaborate.

ROH has gone freakin' nuts. maybe someone should get "Turning Japanese" off repeat on Gabe's I-Pod.

The shockingness of it is pretty awesome. Everyone thought the Briscoes were going to have a long-ass run. I think the head of several ROH forumers have just exploded. Things are very exciting and ridiculously unpredictable in ROH right now.

Well, ya know, it should.  These guys tore the house down the two times they've wrestled in ROH... 4 YEARS AGO.

i thought they only fought once at Honor Invades Boston? when was the other time in ROH?

and their match in 2001 in CZW is considered the best CZW singles match ever

They wrestled at the One Year Aniversary Show. It was right before they became a Tag Team and was supposed to be their last singles match. Its not as highly regarded as their Honor Invades Boston match, but I thought it was still awesome.

While part of me hopes that they won't break the Briscoes up, I'd really like to see Jay get a singles push.

Finish came with Jacobs hitting Whitmer with the Contracode for the win.

some reports coming in from people in attendance

I just got back from the show, I sat next to Tommy and Gregh.

Firstly, I'd just like to say that the Olympia was pretty much full up. Ground seats, and both balconys were full after about the second match. If it can fill 1300, then there was easily 90% of that attendace there. We were "into it" for the first half of the show, but not as much as for Unified. Though, we really wanted to. That thing about Allison and Sara killing themselves is sarcasm, by the way. The match was a few arm holds, then an STO, a Package Tiger Suplex, then it was over. We WANTED to get into it so much, but there jsut wasn't any impact moves in it aside from the STO and the PTS, so, like, you can't pop for submission holds all the time, can you?

So, yeah. We get the intermission, and then afterwards, we were our normal selves like from the last two matches from Unified. Awesome atmosphere. Pac vs Strong was a really good match. Pac was quite impressive, but, to be honest, he reminded me of Jack Evans circa 2004. Still won us over, though.

Briscoes vs Team DG was AWESOME! Me and a friend kept giving 'Shiiiiinngoooooooooo!' chants throughout the match. Eventually, we decided that the people on the mesage boards would be hating us tomorrow, haha. Of course, Shingo gets the pin straight after with a cut throat wrist clutch Psycho Driver type thing, and totally killed Mark Briscoe. After chanting for Shingo the whole time, and seeing the victory, me and my friend just went BESERK together in marking out. Jay challenging Mark got a big pop as well. Japan has all our titles now, what are we gonna do!

Sorry, I'm tired now. We (the crowd) were so intense for Joe/Nigel. It was a really godo match, much like Danielson/Nigel last time round. You think Nigel is out, and then BANG!, he's back in it. Loved chanting for Joe. Joe wanted Gregh's chair for an Ole kick, but he couldn't get it out in time, so I just picked up Tommy's and gave it to Joe, who kicked Nigel's face off. The kind of kicks Ole Kicks should be.

I'll write a more in depth review of tonight and tomorrow's shows after the second one. I'm shattered now. Loved it!

Briscoe vs. Briscoe TONIGHT In Liverpool
Saturday, March 03, 2007

Everyone in ROH was shocked that Jay & Mark Briscoe lost the ROH World Tag Team Titles last night in their first title defense. What was even more shocking was the events after the match that led to a one time only match TONIGHT, March 4th, in Liverpool pitting Jay Briscoe vs. Mark Briscoe. Tickets will be available at the door of the Liverpool Olympia on West Derby Road, Liverpool, L6 9BY TONIGHT and belltime is 5pm.

After the title loss, Jay told Mark that they won the GHC Jr. Heavyweight Tag Titles in their first night in NOAH, but then lost them at the end of the tour. Now they won the ROH World Tag Titles and lost them in their very first defense. Jay says maybe they need to toughen up. Jay said maybe they need to toughen each other up. Jay then challenged his brother to a one night only match for TONIGHT in Liverpool. Mark told his brother to "man up" and that Jay better be damn sure he's up for a fight.

The Briscoes will go back to teaming after this one night only singles match. We will see how much they have toughened up when they take on the winner of tonight's Naruki Doi & Shingo vs. Davey Richards & Roderick Strong tag title match at "All Star Extravaganza III" on March 30th in Detroit.

Anything is possible in ROH. Who could have guessed last night that Mark Briscoe vs. Jay Briscoe would be taking place TONIGHT for one time only!!!

Report From England Night 1

Flight was a breeze, slept most of the way to England, talked with Joe and somehow had a conversation with Delirious when I was awake.

Friday I had to catch up on sleep, walked around Liverpool and unsucessfully tried to find some decent food.

Now I'm back from the show. ROH is in chaos. I don't even know the future of our own titles. When someone gets a result from Morishima vs. KENTA tonight please post it so I know what the heck is going on with our World Title. Will we see KENTA or Morishima in April?

Not only is there an international World Title situation, but the tag belts are with the Dragon Gate team of Doi & Shingo. I hope Roddy & Davey can pull out the win tonight. The Dragon Gate office is great to work with, but we need to have control of our own titles.

Briscoe vs. Briscoe tonight. This is going to be sick. They are both really looking forward to it.

I've been tearing up a lot since getting back to the hotel thinking about Samoa Joe's final ROH match tonight. We ended up at the same bar after the show. We got our first drinks at the same time. "Here is to a hell of a run" I said to Joe as we had a solemn toast.

And by the way, Nigel is the man.

Gabe Sapolsky

Gabe is funny :P.

and here's a picture Subculture took.

-The show is starting a little late. Live coverage will be starting at around 1pm Eastern.

-Before the show has started, a brawl started in the crowd between BJ Whitmer and Jimmy Jacobs. They brawled to the back. Hard to tell whether this was filmed or not.

1) Delirious beat Colt Cabana in the opening match of the night. Said to be a really good comedy match to open the show. The crowd were really into it. Delirious won with a roll up.

2) Sara Del Ray & Allison Danger beat Jetta & Eden Black after a cradle DDT by Del Ray.

3) BJ Whitmer beat Jimmy Jacobs in a ‘Falls Count Anywhere’ match. The match started in the crowd. Jacobs hit a crossbody off the first balcony onto Whitmer down on the ground. They eventually got to the ring where Jacobs used a spike on Whitmer’s forehead. Lots of blood. Whitmer hit a tombstone piledriver then later hit Jacobs with a brainbuster on the entrance ramp before winning by pinfall.

4) Matt Sydal beat Pac in a fast paced match with way too many moves going on to list here. They exchanged spinning heel kicks early on before Sydal hit a high elevation jump legdrop then started to try to get Pac to submit with several different submission holds. Pac later hit a corkscrew to Sydal on the outside, then back in the ring hit a corkscrew 450 splash. Sydal fought back and hit a Shooting Star Press before winning by pinfall.

5) Jay Briscoe vs Mark Briscoe went to a draw after both men stayed down for a ten count. Said to have been a truly brilliant match. The crowd were split 50/50. They slapped each other hard in the face at the start, then exchanged moves. Very even opening series of exchanges. Jay sent Mark to the outside and slammed him onto the floor. Mark then suplexed Jay on the ramp and followed it up with a heel kick and then a double stomp. Jay then hit a DDT before Mark fought back with a T-Bone suplex. Jay then hit a Stunner and a big boot for a near fall. Mark went to the outside and was hit by Jay who somersaulted over the top rope to the outside.

Mark hit a top rope ace crusher but Jay kicked out. Jay then hit a top rope facebuster for a two count. Two more T-Bone suplexes, this time by Mark on Jay. He then hit a frankensteiner from the apron to the floor (bad landing from this one). They made it back into the ring and stayed down for an eight count after a Jay Driller. Mark then hit a reverse DVD on Jay, leading to the end with both men staying down for the count of ten. Brilliant.

That's what surprised me. I'd like to hear what the crowd reaction was, unless I missed it.

EDIT: And that must have been a badass backdrop too.
