Samoa Joe is signed to a long term deal with TNA. There was a recent issue with the copyright and trademark over the Samoa Joe name though. Joe bought the rights to the name himself, but TNA wanted to have ownership of the name. So while this led to discussions about how to handle the situation, there was never a fear that Joe would leave. The two sides have reached an agreement, with Joe retaining ownership of the name. Joe has been using the Samoa Joe name since before he came to TNA.

Well shoot. I was kinda hoping he'd bolt on them, but it would be pretty dumb, even by TNA standards, to put the belt on Joe and put him over Angle if he wasn't locked in for a while. Maybe the title will motivate him, or better yet, TNA will give him a reason to care again. Then again, his first opponent is Scott Steiner isn't it? ick.

And maybe we'll get him in for an ROH show every now and again, with whatever the deal is between ROH and TNA easing up apparently,

Well as far as I know, Joe might be able to appear at shows as long as it doesn't appear on the PPVs. But I remember that TNA made such a big deal about DVDs too, so I'm not sure.

it means down the line "Samoa Joe" can't wrestle at other promotions under that name. ala Christian Cage, Team 3D, Rhino etc.

so hypothetically if he came to the wwe he would be given the name "Umaga" or something.

I know thats why they do it but there is something about giving a company something that you yourself created and letting them become owner of it just sounds evil and distgusting. Its like you can't work for us unless we own your name.
