I am probably the only one in this union who thought that promo from RVD was overrated. While I could tell what he was saying was from the heart (of which, I will give him, is certainly freshing change of pace from not only his usual stuff, however, all of the scripted promos we usually get these days), the bottom line is that delivery just felt rough as hell, and in my humble opinion, there is no getting around that...

To certain degree, I can kinda of understand why WWE cut his promo work short for all of those years...

My point in bumping this thread was to gain further discussion (you know, hence the name of the topic) and therefore, seeing how that is exactly what you have done just now, I would say my goal has been accomplished. :P

Beyond that? I have been bumping 1 or 2 year-old topics for while now... not sure why this should be any different? :?

Besides, knowing how the Dude is, reply is all but guaranteed... :P

I liked RVD's ECW Promos. The way he would talk **** about Sabu when he was standing right there was some of the funniest stuff I have ever seen.

Well, here it is, only I've really got nothing to argue. I'm not entirely sure what overrated actually means in this case. Sure, in terms of delivary, it doesn't match up to stuff from the Rock, Austin, Foley, JBL, Jericho etc., but how many people are saying it did? I certainly wouldn't. RVD has never been about promos. Even after this, I think you'd be nuts to give RVD a mic and say go out there and fill twenty minutes (even though that's more or less what happened here, but we all know Heyman's nuts).

This promo is all about content, which I believe is what makes up for the rough delivary and as you pointed out is the strength of the promo. RVD says what needed to be said, he said what he felt and got to vent his frustration, a frustration that was shared by his fans and RVD did a serviceable job of pulling it off.

While the overall message of the promo, I'd say, fell on deaf ears, I think the results are undeniable. That promo won RVD the WWE Title a year later.

True, however, I remember you once saying something to the effect that with this promo, "RVD was able to prove the crits wrong." While he was FINALLY able to show he still had the abilitiy of saying whole lot more than "dude" or "whatever," I would not exactly say that at least in this case, "RVD was able to prove the critics wrong."
