Trish confirms retirement
By Louie Dee
August 29, 2006

As first reported Monday night on WWE.com and in a WWE Mobile Alert, Trish Stratus is set to retire from in-ring action following Unforgiven next month. After Women’s Champion Lita called WWE.com to break the story on Monday, Trish confirmed on Tuesday morning that she indeed will be hanging up the boots.

Trish told WWE.com that she was upset that Lita chose to break the story how she did, as she wanted to tell the WWE fans in her own way. However, the six-time Women’s Champion then refused any additional comment, saying she will address the situation this coming Monday night on RAW.

On Monday afternoon, Lita called the WWE.com offices to announce Trish’s retirement. Apparently, Lita overheard a personal telephone conversation this weekend between Trish and her parents about her decision to retire.

“Trish was saying that the road has been taking its toll on her and it was time to take some time for herself,” Lita told WWE.com, “but the hardest part was that she couldn’t decide how to tell her fans. Well, being the good friend that I am, I figured I’d break the news through WWE.com to alleviate her worries and save her the trouble of figuring out how to let down all her fans like that.”

How will Trish address this blockbuster announcement? Find out on RAW Monday night.

We've known about this for a while :|

Still, it will be sad to see her go.

I beg to differ that. I think if they move Jillian over to RAW, then we can a real Women's Division going with or with Trish and Lita, whom is slated to leave the end of this year. We already still have Melina, Victoria, Beth Phoenix, Mickie James, and probably Torrie Wilson, who all can wrestle. Maybe move Kristal as well... I see how she works in the ring, and it's impressive.

Well she's had a good career, but it's time for her to move on.... Mickie has arrived on the scene and she is gonna take Trish's place, or already has for that matter.

The women's division was never really that good, and without trish it will be in the dumps.  Lita better lose the belt soon - then we'll see some REAL championship action!

Trish will probably be back..and maybe not. Either way, she'll be missed by many fans and I hope she finds happiness, no matter what....!

Actually, I think Trish Stratus leaving the WWE is good thing.

Personally, I think management already had milked Trish career for good majority of the usefulness there were going to receive from her. So, for the sake of everyone involved, I think its better because she is leaving the company why she still remember as being on postive note.

Also, hopefully, this will force management to book the women's division into new direction, with new stars (something the division had needed for at least the past year or so). However, on that note, I will not be holding my breath for this to come to pass, though still some what stronger possibility nonetheless.

Besides, in wrestling, unless you suffer career-ending injury (or death), there is no such thing as retirement.

Oh yeah, I completely forgot about Beth Phoenix and the fact that Melina can also wrestle. I guess you're right, the Women's division does have a bright future.

Even if you suffer a career ending injury, you can come back and outperform half of the roster

Well since were talking about Trish, what is your favorite Trish match?! One I remember, and still have on VHS, is her match against Stephanie McMahon at No Way Out 2001, which was a fun match to watch. There were wet t-shirt, spanking, all out cat fight in this match. Jerry Lawler commentary in this match is hilarious. This is not my favorite match, but fun to watch... My favorite has got to be the Triple Threat Match at WM 19 with Jazz and Victoria. Best Trish match in my opinion. Other honorable mentions:

  • vs. Victoria in a Hardcore Match at Survivor Series 2002
  • vs. Mickie James at WM 23
  • vs. Gail Kim vs. Victoria vs. Lita at Bad Blood 2004
  • with Lita vs. Gail Kim and Molly Holly at Unforgiven 2003
