For some reason, I can't stop watchin' the SSBB trailer. :P  I'm also listening to the theme a lot as well.  Is that bad?

The theme is like freaky

Question, has anyone else heard about this news:

E3 2006: Nintendo Hints at Game Boy's End

Is the longest-running system ever on its last leg?

By Daemon Hatfield

May 11, 2006 - In an interview with Reuter's yesterday, Nintendo President Satoru Iwata said there may not be a successor to the Game Boy Advance.

"I would have a second thought about using our resources on what would be the next generation of Game Boy Advance, considering the strong support DS is now enjoying," Iwata said. "The Japanese game market is now evolving around DS. We don't need to do something that will pour cold water on the situation."

The news is significant as the Game Boy is the longest-running game system ever. Launched in 1989, the Boy and its many iterations have sold over 120 million units.

At its E3 booth this year, Nintendo is not showing any Game Boy or Gamecube games.

I agree that Nintendo should not worry about having Gameboy successor, anytime soon, seeing how, yes, the Nintendo DS has been such huge success... However, I do not think Nintendo should discontinue the gameboy franchise, completely... It would be stupid move by Nintendo, because gameboy name still has plenty value...and still known by gamers worldwide.

Simply put, I think Nintendo should wait until Nintendo DS looses some steam, before they release the next Nintendo handheld (which I personally think should be part of the gameboy line-up), instead of discontinuing the gameboy franchise completely.

What does everyone else think about this?

Yes, I have read that some hours ago.  I believe that Nintendo should not stop all Game Boy production.

Reason being is that it's their mainstay in the handheld market, and that consumers have enjoyed the cost-efficient system and games.  Discontinuing all future Game Boy games would really hurt them in the long run, as most people still buy and play their GB games to this day.  (I am still enjoyin' my GB library.  And I'm lookin' forward to several GBA titles in the near future.)

Unfotunately, I have no say in it, as Nintendo can do whatever it wants with their Game Boy franchise.  I just hope they don't end it very soon.

The game boy should not be discontinued at this point, or at any point, just put the system on the back burner for now.  Once the DS loses some steam then focus in on the GB again.  It's a great system in size and all features and I wouldn't mind having only 1 or 2 games released for it over a short period of time if the DS is doing great. If they do end it's life it will be one sad day in the video game world.

Don't know whether it has been posted or not, but it's related to the E3 '06 coverage. Click here for the RVD interview. It's a good read and you'll find out what inside the briefcase. :D BTW, credit goes to sport.ign.com.

This E3 was great, I wish there were not so many WW2 and first person shooter games being showed, I mean, they are nice and everything, but we were saturated with this genre too much this E3

Next year's E3, I believe we will be overloaded with games and all 3 Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo are going to be ready to wage round 1 of the next generation Console war, after E3, next year and I firmly believe, it is going to be a great year for gaming

After the PS3 shortage is over with, which hopefully will not last any longer then E3 of next year, I believe that is when round 1 of the next generation console war begins in full flight and by early 2008, we will know the answer as to who won round 1 of the next generation console war

I believe this E3 was great, but I think at the same time, people had too lofty of expectations out of Sony and I think that is a big reason why people have this anxiety about them.

Sony, knows they have to live up to the hype and to please their fanbase and I think that Sony's fanbase simply expected too much out of them and was counting on too much out of them. I do not think Sony did bad, but I think that both Microsoft and Nintendo brought their A game and I think, that because of that, some Sony fans feel let down.

Sony also has to justify the high price tag of the PS3 also

I think Sony did good at this E3, people must understand things are still very early and like the 360, it will take a while for the Playstation to come full circle, every console goes through that. But I just simply think some people got their hopes up too high and were counting on too much from Sony and I feel that when you get your hopes up too high about something and count on it, you can end up being disappointed.

Keep your expectations low and do not count on things so much in life and you will be pleasantly suprised

I do feel that for once, Sony's Launch lineup this year has the potential to break the bad jinx of bad Launch games, that Launch games are known for with a system and I have saw at least 4 or 5 games or more, that look like, they could be Launch games, that could be very good.

I think people just have the habit of judging from the past too much and gamers in general are pessmestic, when it comes to Launch games in general

Nintendo, I think this year came into E3 as the Silent Assaisain, I do not think anybody was really expecting anything big out of them, but it is turning out, their hardware, especially their controller and certain games, can turn out to be a big hit and if they start to market their games, towards the adults and the mainstream gaming audience, and still keep their kid fanbase, then I think Nintendo can really do well this generation of gaming

I think Nintendo is a perfect example of keep your expectations low and do not count on things so much, and you will be pleasantly suprised

I need more to be convinced about Nintendo though, because at this point in time, I need to be convinced, that they will market towards the mainstream gaming audience, before I would consider buying a Wii

Microsoft, looks like they are finally starting to come full circle with the 360 and it seems like, they have a bunch of great games coming out over the next 18 months and I will admit, I have not had much interest in buying a 360 up until now, but I might decide to buy one eventually after all.

Microsoft needs a killer app or 2, between now and the time, that Halo 3, comes out next year to make people want to go out and buy the 360 and drive the sales of that through the roof and I believe they will get a killer app soon

Bottom line is this, whenever Sony has their shortage of PS3's over with next year and there is a surplus of PS3's to buy and everything, you will see, Round 1 of the next generation console war begin Spring 2007 and we will know who won Round 1, early 2008, but it is shaping up to be a great battle

As we draw closer to the Tokyo Game Show at the end of September, we should have more concrete information about the PS3 and the Wii. Like Launch titles should be announced then, the number of units each region will get and what colors will the consoles be available in and so on

WWE ready for the next generation
http://www.wwe.com/inside/news/smackdownE3
By Ian Asher
May 13, 2006

WWE.com recently had a chance to check in with THQ about SmackDown vs. RAW, the hottest wrestling video game franchise on the market. SvR ’07 just made its debut this week at E3, the Electronic Entertainment Expo. E3 is the biggest event in the video gaming industry and WWE has definitely laid the smack down on it.

When asked about how the game has been received at E3, Tracy Muniz, THQ’s marketing representative, said “the press and retailers have been very responsive to the game, with the two most notable being Microsoft and Sony.” Microsoft will release the game on their next generation console, the Xbox 360, and Sony will be releasing the game on PS2, PSP and eventually PS3. With those two corporate giants being onboard and extremely impressed with the new product, WWE knows that this year’s version will be another smashing success.

The positive feedback didn’t come easily though, “SmackDown vs. RAW ’06 was released last November and our teams started working on the ’07 release in October, so before the current release goes out we’re already working on the next one,” commented Tracy.

The ‘07 release will feature several new and upgraded features that will catapult the game to a whole new level. Every year the game gets better and better, and after speaking with THQ, 2008’s version is going to be hard pressed to best the ‘07 incarnation.

So what made this year’s version the talk of E3?

“The game has four big new features,” said Tracy “These are the interactive fighting areas where the Superstars can fight in the crowd and even receive help from them (fans can provide weapons, signs to tear up or flaunt, etc.) There are the environmental hot spots that the players can interact with, like the steel ring steps and scaffolds. There’s also a new innovative analog control system that will completely change the player’s experience. We’ve also added new high impact movesets.”

Beyond that, the game includes updated rosters for RAW and SmackDown (60 some odd Superstars, including legends) an upgraded General Manager Mode, a more non-linear and unique season mode and online multiplayer game play with voice chat support and stat tracking features.

“The countering and reversals system has also been revamped in this new version. You will be able to chain reversals and counters together repeatedly until one Superstar manages to come out on top. Players will be able to reverse and chain both strikes and grapples, which will allow for more exciting and dynamic matches,” Tracy mentioned also.

When asked about the new graphics Tracy said “The graphics in the game will be dramatically improved. In last year’s version each Superstar consisted of 500 polygons. This year they will be comprised of a staggering 20,000.”

The Superstars are laser scanned to accurately record their body and facial features for the game. They also participate in motion capture sessions for their entrances and their signature moves.

When asked about the process, World Champion Rey Mysterio said, “The body scanning is a really cool experience, the machine circles around your head and face, capturing every little detail. They took pictures of each of my tattoos from different views. They took pictures from the front, from the side, facing down and so on. It’s funny, I felt like I was in prison. It’s amazing how real it looks, I saw myself on the cover of a magazine the other day and I couldn’t believe how realistic it looked, it was like I was looking at a picture of myself, the eyes and everything were perfect.”

After all the physical aspects are accounted for, the Superstars have to tend to the audio side of the game, recording hours of voiceovers. WWE.com also got a chance to speak with Chris Argento, Director of Audio Engineering for WWE, about just how much depth this game will have just considering the voiceovers and whatnot. “Each Superstar in the game recorded approximately 2-4 hours of audio for the game, and spent even more time just in the studio. They recorded for situations within the season mode storylines and various other aspects of the game that require it.”

In addition to the Superstars having to record hours of audio, the commentators also had some serious studio sessions. “We had Michael Cole and Tazz in here, Cole recorded some 1,200 plus lines for the game,” said Argento. Even Lilian Garcia came into the studio and recorded the introductions for each and every one of the Superstars. Nothing has been overlooked in this game. When asked if there were any moments that stood out throughout the recording process, Argento recalled the Chairman’s time in the studio, “Mr. McMahon came into the studio to record several hours of storyline related audio and at one point he had screamed ‘you’re fired’ about 20-30 times in different tones and mannerisms, it was very unsettling.”

Mysterio also commented on the audio recording process, saying that “it was really cool doing it this time because I have a much larger part now. You have to beat different people to be able to face me, I liked the process because it was like being in the ring because I had to be in there and get aspects of my personality across.”

With WWE Superstars being on the road all the time and having little time to rest up and heal in between matches, these types of efforts cut into what little downtime they have. While it takes a lot of time and effort, WWE is committed to making sure that the game is as engaging and realistic as possible.

Everyone’s efforts have definitely paid off though. At E3, THQ had to have private showings and play-testings of the game due to the hordes of WWE fans that were itching to get their hands on it.

While not everyone was able to play the new game at E3, they were able to stop by and check out Rey’s actual ring gear from WrestleMania 22, complete with mask, tights and Aztec warrior headdress.

SmackDown vs. RAW ’07 will be the first version of the series to be released on multiple platforms at the same time. The first release will be for Xbox 360, PS2 and PSP in November, with the PS3 release following afterwards.

WWE.com will keep the fans as up to date as possible with insider information and exclusive content. Stay tuned for the coming updates.
