I just purchased an Xbox 360 a few weeks ago, and decided to grab up a few titles that I missed out on having never owned an original Xbox. I've been pleased with Ninja Gaiden Black, Morrowind, and Jade Empire, but today things changed. I've finally found copies of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 1 & 2 that were in great condition (I almost always buy used) but after starting up the first game, I was extremely disappointed.

No one told me you didn't control your character in battle. This has to be one of the worst ideas for a Star Wars game I have EVER played. At least in most of the other titles you can hack and slash your way through the enemies, or mow them down with your blaster. But no. I enggaged the enemy and sat the controller down while it took care of the battle while I watched and waited. If I wanted to watch a battle, I wouldrent a movie or buya Final Fantasy game. Star Wars, to me, has always been about the action and adventure. I'd rather waste my time playing through the Episode III game again than put this back in my system. At least then I would have more control over my battles.

Now the question is will anyone be brave enough to agree with me on this, or will you allchastize mefor speaking my opinion?

i'm brave enough to say u didn't know what u were buying, nor are u at the point where ur battle time decisions are crucial. its a pseusdo realtime but actually turnbased system. its also alot harder than any other star wars game ive ever played, and thats quite a few (basically every single one on n64, gamecube, & xbox, plus a myriad of others on older consoles).

is what i said considered chastizing? i dunno, i don't care, but in my honest opinion u asking anybody to be "brave enough" to agree with you is one of the most foolish ploys i've ever seen.

if it wasn't for the rogue squadron series, it would be by far the best star wars game ever. even still, no single rogue squadron game is as epic and as satisfying as kotor 1.

KOTOR was one of the most amazing games I have ever played. I'm not even a fan of RPGs, and I thought it was amazing. Yes, it starts out slow, but once you start playing and you get more skills, the game gets very satisfying. The story is also the most amazing Star Wars storyline since the original trilogy. :|

This game is played for the story for the most part.. I would say that you stepped into this not knowing what you were buying, but then again... The game makes no qualms about being an RPG and if you are an avid gamer you should of known what you were getting yourself into. My advice would be if you like story to continue playing through the game. Yes its not Obi Wan with the real time use of your lightsaber or force powers, but its and RPG and the quality is in the Story as it were. If your looking for something more up your ally Look into Mass Effect in November for the 360. Its the same kind of thing, what i've heard several people call the Evolution of KOTOR. in a third person shooter sort of deal... reasearch it an you will see what I'm talking about.

I knew this topic would potentially open a can of worms. I think my biggest complaint is that no one told me that it WASN'T a 3rd person shooter. That's what I wanted and that's not what I've got.As a hybrid of a 3rd person shooter and an RPG, I'm sure it would be great but that's not the game I was looking to play and I have plenty of RPGs to keep me busy.

As for people being "brave enough" to post against the reviews? I mentioned this because every time I've said anything about a game that has such a cult following, I've been subjected to a bombardment of abusive posts. And quite the opposite, I've been bombarded for sharing a positive opinion on games that most turn their nose up at. (God forbid I ever mention that a movie tie-in game was actually good! Outside of the Star Wars saga that is...) I'm not trying to stir up anything...I'm just wondering if there were other people out there who felt the same way I do about KOTOR.It's not the perfect game for everyone,no matter how many reviews praise it.

I think only the super star wars nerds really liked the game. I rented the second game and thought it was pretty average...The combat was clunky, story not too engaging, crappy graphics and effects....It's one of those games that was just liked by some people because of the fact that it was "Star Wars".

I personally think it depends on if you like RPGs, if you like Star Wars [and to what extent] and if you enjoy a game's story as much as the game itself. I am kinda a Star Wars Fanatic and think the KOTOR Games really allow you to immerse yourself into the S W Universe, but that's my opinion. I personally don't think KOTOR would have been as famous and as good a game if it wasn't as innovative as it was at the time of release with the genre it used for the game. There's a reason it's got a sequel. But, I can see it from your point of view. :D

It's not that I don't like RPGs, I just didn't want a Star Wars RPG. I was expecting something like SW: Lethal Alliance (PSP) which would have kicked some serious ass, butafter searching all over town for a week just to find a copy in good condition, I was ready to just blow $#!t up. Not sit there and watch while my character shot at the enemy. I think I'll just stick to Final Fantasy ans the Tales series for my RPGs, and I'll be looking forward to the next SW: Battlefront to satisfy my run & gun Star Wars craving.
