I have a HD AV Adapter which works fine through a switchbox. However, I decided to purchase a set of Monster XGL400 Component Cables.....here is my problem. The connections are way toooooo tight and when I finally got them connected to my switchbox I got a terrible audio buzz. Never could get that buzz to disappear!!. The video was great, maybe a little better then the HD AV Adapter but the buzz is too much to put up with. I thinks maybe the switch box is causing it, but am afraid to connect the set too the monitor as don't want to break the Component inputs on the monitor.....really they are that tight. Don't want to take the switchbox out of the equation as I also have a PS 2 Slim connected which I like to switch back and forth (only have one set of component inputs on my monitor. Also would never be able to switch the cable back and forth (PS2 to XBOX and vice versa) as once the monster cables were connected to the monitor, I think it would be for life! Any one else have this problem.

I wouldn't worry about breaking the inputs. I have some monster cables too(im not sure if they are the same) but they are really tight. Whenever i pull them out the frame kind of shakes but it has never broken the inputs so i wouldn't worry. I never had the fuzzy sound problem though

You could buy a component system switch. No need for moving cables, just hit a button.

Thanks for the replies. The switchbox I have is the component switchbox that Gamestop sells for 20.00. Allows for three component systems and one composite system. Seems to work with all other cables. I have a PS2 slim connected via component cables and the xbox connected via HD AV adapter and component cables which work fine. Seems to be on the Audio side on these monster cables......video is great, but audio has a terrible buzz....like electromagnetic interference. Only equipment which is on is Xbox and monitor period. Cables only cost 22.50 from ebay were new and in sealed original package. Guess I will stick with the HD AV Adapter for now, but sure am disappointed with these so called state of the art cables!!! Live and learn I guess.

No problem KnArFnB, will try the cables without the switcher one of these days. Was just curious if they would be better then the HD Adapter, and they are about the same, maybe the monster video is a little better, but not enough to make me anxious to change.

Yeah, I was going to mention in my last post to try the monster cable minus the switchbox, but I forgot to do so. Definitely give it a shot! I have my two audio ends plugged into my stereo which features game input on the front. I have no buzzing or other problems. I just like to use my stereo speakers instead of the tv's. Monster also sells the x100 cable which attaches to the xgl400 cable to enable 5.1 dolby surround sound.

Using the original xbox with a component cable on 480p (for an hdtv) is basically used to get rid the blurry picture. It's no better than playing on an sdtv with the normal av plug. Now the 360 is a different story.

The component cables are the only way to get 480p on a SDTV from the Xbox. All the other cable solutions will only do 480i. And this is also the only way to get 720p for the handful of games that support it.

I'll have to agree with KnArFnB that it is probably your switch box. If you have no problems when plugging directly into the TV then that basically confirms it. I am currently using the monster cables instead of an HD box (the "official" Xbox Component cables) and have been very happy with them. They have a bit more shielding that provides a slightly crisper image. The colors will also have a bit more depth as well as black being black instead of grey.

Also I would suggest having the component cables go directly into your TV instead of through your system selector. I am going to guess that you have a fairly inexpensive component switchter, which means it will consist of cheap and unshielded parts. This will introduce a level of signal interference that will degrade the signal quite a bit. The cables between the TV and the selector will also reduce the quality. Having monster cables going into this type of setup is kind of a waste because any benefits you get out of the expensive monster cables will be negatated by the cheap system switch and extra cable.

OR.. you can go with an expensive shielded switch. I've been extremely happy with the one in my sig. LINK Even with it I still have my 360 going directly into the 2nd set of Component plugs on the back of the TV. Everything else that uses component is routed through the switcher. The cables from the switcher to the TV were quite spendy as well.

But yeah, my response below was basically useless. Sorry about that. I somehow read your post thinking you were not wanting to have to unplug the cables everytime you wanted to use another system.
