I think what 'they' mean by dead is that gaming has moved on and left it behind.  Many people in our fast moving consumer society are only interested in what is new, and only as long as it is new.  It is these people who have branded the XBox dead and will kill of the PS3 and 360 as soon as something else arrives.  To be fair they do have a point as they are a large part of the market and when they move on the game developers move on and follow the money.

As long as some of us are still playing the old consoles they are not completely dead, although it hardly seems worth arguing the toss, but the main reason people make these statements is to tell the world they are so cutting edge that they wouldn't be seen dead using such an obsolete piece of electronics.  So you see it is all about them, and only partially about the console.

Xbox production had ceased on August 2005.

Yeah, XBox is indeed officially DEAD in retail. But I'm still playing mine to this day :D

Ebay is the best way to get one, NEW.

DrEru is so correct on this matter.  A console never really dies if someone is still playing it.  Many people have moved on but even if they have moved on there are still people who got the newer consoles that play the older consoles still and I'm one of them.  I can go all the way back to my Atari 2600 I got in 82 and play it today and all the game systems I've had in between.

XBOX IS DEAD I NEVER PLAY IT ANY MORE. THE ONLY REASON I HATE IT SO MUCH NOW IS BECAUSE THERE ARE NO NEW GAMES

XBOX IS DEAD

:(                     PLUS XBOX 360 BREAKS SO FAST.

Why hate a system that has so many good games for it.  Why hate a system when you can get all these good games at a super low price.  No console dies people just move on to the next system.  There are many collectors that continue to play their older consoles eventhough they have the newer one/s.

I recently rebought a Xbox with a TON of games for cheap. I never played a ton of differant games for the system when I owned it before. Games like Indigo Prophacy, Psychonauts, Beyond good & evil, Panzer Dragoon Orta, KotoR 2, Baldur's Gate, Otogi and Ninja Gaiden (i know). So all these games are new to me. I have enough "new" games to last me years if I wanted. So my xbox is very much alive and kicking!

My xbox is alive and kicking as well.  I just don't want to deal with the BC issues with my 30 to play the original games on it so all these games I'm getting for cheap right now are really keeping my xbox full of entertainment.

it may dead in that first party games have more or less stopped but unlike with the ps2, i felt that the graphical power of the xbox was neverfully used in games like fifa except only fully used in fps's only. this just shows that the xbox will fade away before it really reached it's true peak.

Don't forget Ninja Gaiden Black which has some of the best graphics of all time. They are some of the most fluid and smoothly animated game sequences of all time.

i'll never give up my xbox until it truely dies.  i regret selling off my sega saturn.  it was worthy to have just for virtua fighter 2 and road rash.  and there are so many games (cheap) for the xbox now!  the xbox library has some of the best games to ever come out in all genres.  i'll probably do a little upgrade so that the dvd drive does not have to work as hard and put a larger hdd in it so i can backup my games, since i don't use xbl.  there are still plenty of sites selling parts for them too.

 GAD the only time a game console is dead, is when it wont power up. If you are still using it and playing the games you've gotten, it's still alive. I've noticed that those who put down things, and point out stupid similarities from game to game, are the ones who aren't true gamers, a true die hard gamer doesn't care what others think or say. They just play the games they like, not the games someone else said is cool.
