Send it in, the two red rings tends to be a death sentence like the RROD. Except that in the case of the two red lights the extended warranty doesn't cover your ass. So if MS is offering to fix it for free I'd take that offer ASAP. Not doing so because you don't want to be without your 360 for a month is stupid. I mean, what are you going to do with a 360 that can only stay on for 15 minutes?gameguy6700
it did this once before a long time ago but it happened once and after awhile it was good again, so i dont wanna throw my stuff in a box and ship it away if it will work the next day, if it is still doing it then i will ship it in...

This my philosophy on 360 hardware problems: If your 360 ****s up once then it's going to do it again sooner or later, and probably even worse. The fact that your 360 has given you the half ring not once but twice means that there's a definite hardware defect. You can either ignore it, hope it goes away, and then face the very real possibility of it permanently breaking on you after your warranty runs out, or you can sacrifice 1 month of playtime for the peace of mind that you won't have to live in fear of your 360 breaking on you when you start having to pay MS over $100 for repairs for anything other than RROD (besides, if you really **** and moan to customer service sometimes MS will ship back an accessory or two in an attempt to smooth things over along with some free XBL time).
so i got GTA 4 today, i put it in, played it for like 30 min then all of a sudden 2 red rings show up on the left side of the circle, im pissed cuz i didnt save yet and the 2 rings mean its overheating which is dumb cuz it wasnt even on long, my system is in a good spot and its never done this since ive had it (this is my 2nd system after my first one had the 3 red rings) so i let it cool for a bit, played for about 15 min.....does it again....im gettin mad so i let it cool for awhile and then play and for another 15 min or so it cuts off, i call customer service, the moron who barely speaks english isnt helpin much and says i should send it in, i said no screw that i aint waiting a month for this crap that shouldnt be happening in the first place, is there anyway someone can help me with this please im tired of the b/sWhiteIce1756
i have the same problem and its because its over heating..let it cool off for a bit and keep it in a cool area while ur playing..ur gunna have to call it in
this happened to my friend and he told me he fixed it by putting a towel on it to cool down i know it sounds wierd but he said it worked so yeabest_inthe_gametwo rings means it overheated. and what this guy suggested is a temporary fix. it will **** up worse later.
just go buy ps3 that best way.bike749Why the heck would he wanna do that, PS3 is nothing but garbage, Xbox 360 has the better game library, graphics and online. Oh and im hearing lately on the PS3 forums many PS3's cant read games and are breaking down , mate i think YOU should buy the 360, before ur ps3 recks haha. Oh and on the homepage in topics that are created by gamespot, it says the PS3 GTA IV version always freezers and is recking. So mate dont say crap on a Xbox 360 forum u NUB,
all you do is spend all your time on the 360 forums cause u wish u had one.
Yeah same thing happend to me, I have my Xbox for about a year and a half and get GTA and after about 3 hour's I got the Red rings, so I placed my 360 at an open window and it worked perfectly and I played it for a couple of hour's nothing happend.
So I placed my 360 back this time higher the after about 20 minute's I got the red rings.
i have it in the open and a intercooler. It wasn't even started up till i got off of work, which is when it locked up.mixthebody
Don't use the intercooler. When the intercooler wears down it starts not working right and it wears the system down even more. Not only that it draws power from the system and if it is what causes the system to malfunction it can void the warranty.

What is the best way without voiding?I bought gta 4 yesterday too, and as soon as I put it in it locks up and I get the three red rings(upper right quad not lit up). I do the towel trick and it plays(never had rrod before). I get to the first save point and it locks up again(towel trick again), and then I put in cod4 to see if it plays. It then locks up. So one more time towel trick and then played cod4 allnight. Wake up and try to play gta 4 again and it lets me finish the first mission but freezes on save. Put cod4 in and it is locking up yet again. Now towel trick doesn't help. Is my 360 finished or maybe just the game causing this? I just find it ironic that other people have had the same problem starting with this gamemixthebody
1. The towel trick is a temporary fix. While it relieves the problem for awhile after a couple of months max you're going to have a permanent RROD. The only DIY fix I've heard of that at least sometimes lasts indefinitely is the penny trick. But that's not nessecarry (or a good idea) as long as your warranty is still active (which it should be unless you modded your console or that intercooler you've been using shortcircuited and thus voided your warranty) since you can just send in your console to MS and get it back within a month along with a one-year extension to your warranty.
2. Never use the intercooler. It can shortcircuit and fuse to the back of your system, the fan draws power from your system causing it to crash when playing more taxing games, and it can void your warranty. Its amazing the thing is still being sold considering there's been at least one class action lawsuit that I know of filed against the company that makes it. Just keep your system in a well ventilated area and hope for the best, that's really all you can do.
3. Your system is dead. Call MS to get a coffin sent.
Thats actually really interesting. I started getting the two red rings about 2 or threee weeks before I got GTA 4, but it went away like it was nothing. I got GTA 4, started playing, and I can only get like 10 minutes of play time in before it overheats!
Thing is, two red rings means I have to pay 100 dollars for repair. Three red rings means its free. Is there any way I can make the three red rings pop up without voiding warrenty?

Yes there is, but if I tell you I'll get modded for promoting illegal activity or something. Try a google search.
