Dont leave it on long. 10-15 minutes max. Im not even sure you need the towel. I've just let the xbox run for a few minutes and it did the trick.

u get 3 red lights.  shut off xbox then wait then turn it on while its wrapped in a towel all around and it might turn back on.  if it does leave the towel on for 10 min supposedly then take it off and it'll work

its not going to last that long.... if your lucky maybe an hour or 2

turn your 360 on.... wrap it TIGHT in a towel... let it sit for 15 minutes or until it shuts down.... turn back on without it being wrapped and pop game in... should work for a bit

i recommend this for anyone who is getting the coffin... call xbox and get the box for repair before you do this... then when you send it off that will be the only time your not actually playing... it sucks... but thats the best solution

Bassically your completly frying the thing that detects overheating. So it probably wont last long.

The idea of the towel trick is to basically overheat all the components so that their metal surfaces expand thus allowing better contact and therefore no more red lights.  Ironically the reason why some of the contacts are bad are due to overheating and warping...

Agreed. Heating up the components artificially won't fix anything. It's all in your head. It may be a very short term solution, but it will only further exacerbate the problem.
