I just bought a new core system and i played gears for about 5 minutes.  The air coming out was already very hot.  Should I just keep playing and not worry about it, get it fixed right away, or is there an easy way i could cool it?

If it is in a well ventilated area then the system should be fine.

Even if the air coming out is hot?  Should i put a small fan blowing on the top of the console or something?

What you would like to do is up to you but I suggest you be smart and wait for the 65-nanometer lower CPU because you are probably playing on a defective Xbox. But nock you self out it won't be months until the New CPU comes out but should have waited for the Elite.

There's no new CPU announced and the Elite has the same processor. It is normal the the air coming out of the console is hot (you should feel the PS3, the air coming out is even hotter), is the console itself that can't get hot (you can check by touching with your fingers). I personally have a fan pointing at it (becuase I lost my first one due to overheating) and there's a difference of 100% temperature wise.

Does it matter where the fan is blowing on it (besides directly into the back fans)? and I also have a three pronged power brick from a premium system xbox while my core is 2 pronged.  Should I use the three pronged one?  Would it be more efficient in any way?

You have to point it at the side vents (the side opposite to the hard drive) for best results. I don't know about the power brick, but the 3 pronged was released later so that's probably your best bet.

If it's in a well ventilated area, it's proven to be okay. I personally just took a normal size fan and pointed it towards the back of my 360:) Keeps it cool, no longer heats up.

actually, the 3 pronged was released earlier. (had a system made in october 2005 that had 3 pronged, got a new one that had 2 pronged) and I dont usally have a problem with overheating, even though my system is newer and the air coming out of it is always hot. I just lay it on its side to help with the ventilation .

The latest gen consoles put out a lot of heat. I have a PS3 and 360 and they both put out the same kind of heat. I had to seperate them because I thought they'd melt each other. :)
