With the new elite coming out the Xbox 360 is obviously going strong..but how strong is it? If i bought an elite lets say by july..would new games coming out be released at-least for another couple years....and do you think Xbox live will stay popular enough to offer exciting competition for a couple years as well? THANKS!

It's certainly here for this console life...  I don't think we're looking at ten years though...  It's off to a better software start then the Xbox and it has live from the get-go.  The 360 will be ok, and unless the elite pulls in it';s belt and lowers its price $100 the premium isn't going anywhere I don't think.

Yes, there will be games coming out for the next couple of years. Right now XBL is growing fast, no sign of slowing down.

There is usually about 5 years in between console launches and next-gen conesoles being released.  There are some consoles that stick around even after their next-gen counterparts are released.  The PS2 has been around for 7 years and is still outselling the other consoles.

Not too long, because Microsoft will be looking to release their next console in a similar timefrain to Sony's and Nintendo's next consoles.

Ever since the 360 was released, their have been games on the horizon. Each time the console approaches the launch of one of the anticipated games their is always another game coming. I dont see any slump in the 360's mementum. I can easily garauntee that the 360 has about 5-6 more years before we itch for the next console

The Xbox was launched in 2001 (widley in 2002) and has been discontinued as of Nov last year. Figuring a similar time line you got 4ish years till MS ups and dumps the 360. Should be plenty of time I guess tho the PS3 will be supported for many more years after that.

Not just console sales - no one cares about that alone - it's attach rate that matters. The attach rate is 5.7 on a console selling over 10.4 million - that's huge. The PS2 might have a bigger console base - but the 360 base is actively buying games, lots of them, and that excites software companies.

LIVE is growing strong, and there are plenty of games shaping up for 2008 already - Fable 2, Lost Odyssey, Project Gotham Racing 4, Halo Wars, Unreal Tournament 3, et cetera.

Also consider Halo 3 as a game. Halo 2 came out in 2005, yet just the other day we got a map pack for it - name another console game that still has updates coming out for it two years and another system later. It's an industry first. I think we'll be seeing the next Xbox in late 2010 or 2011 - consoles tend to have a five to six year life, so that would fit in pretty well.

Calling ten years is ridiculous - graphics cards are getting expontentially better the way CPUs were a few years ago, and they're about to go multicore the way CPUs are going now. I can see that technology falling to a fair ($400 console) price by 2011 at the latest, so there's no way Microsoft would miss that opportunity.

As far as games are concerned - you need not worry, the Xbox end life had far more games than the beginning, and that trend seems to be continuing on the 360. More and more companies will turn to the green team as sales continue to coast along.

Do you really need to ask? With over 10 million sold and games like Halo 3 and Bioshock (just to name a couple) on the horizon there is no reason for it to go away anytime soon.

It should last for at least that long. I beleive Microsoft said they would begin working on their new system a year after the 360 was released, so it's probably just now being planned out.

How can the Elite outmuscle the 360 when the Elite is a 360? Now I am being in the confusingness...

Besides, looking at how Live has managed to keep growing and pulling in more customers, I'd say out of all console online services, it is the surest bet regarding life span.

Nah, everyone knows the Xbox was discontinued early so MS could get a headstart on the competition. And Sony has a habit of seriously over promising on the life spans of their consoles. I mean, the PS2 was touted as having a life span of 10 years? That's too long for ANY console. Besides, once one the Big Three comes out with a new console, the others have to quickly follow suit, which in turn means each console will pretty much have an equal life span. And don't mean to start a SW thing here, but looking at "someones" sales and attach rate, their life span is looking pretty bleak.

I think Itll last a good bit longer than xbox since MS dosnt have any issues with the hardware makers like they did with xbox1. I say another 5-6 years.

Well keeping in mind many xbox 360 users have a fondness for nice graphics, I'd say they'd be lucky to get anymore than 5 years out of it.
