I recently chucked my money-hungry cable internet in favor of a locally-based DSL company. It is twice the speed at half the price I was paying thru Charter in the past. The internet works great, but the problem is, my 360 doesn't connect anymore :( Both MS and the DSL company said it is likely the modem. The modem is a speedstream, model 5260. I have to open a port or somethign???not sure. Does anyone know what I can do to resolve the issue aside from getting a new modem? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Are you using a router? to connect you PC and the 360 at the same time?. If you aren't, i suppose you are plugin and unplugging the cable to your pc and 360 every-time you want to use them, and when you do that, you should disconnect the modem's power every-time you connect it to a different machine. (360 and PC). Also, if you aren't using a router, there's no place to open ports, so it wont be a port problem.

If you are using a router, its a different story.:?

RESET the system settings! I forget whats it called but, theres a way to run the xbox like you did when you turn on the system first time. That should do it because when I got my friend online for the first time he used MY modem, and a week later when he got his DSL it wouldn't work. Try it.

No - I'm not using a router. I also have plugged and unplugged it and everything, I just cannot get it to connect. When I test the settings it will:

1) Typically connect to the ISP (confirmed)

2) Typically connect with DNS (confirmed)

3) MTU fails (I don't even know what MTU stands for).

That's where I'm left. Occasionally, the first two items fail as well. Any ideas what to do?

Wait - so he couldn't connect after switching to DSL? Was he able to connect after resetting everything?
