Everytime my cousin brings his 360 over, he needs to connect to my router for online play. That's all fine and dandy but my question is, is there any way to get the * sign to show instead of the letters you type when entering your password? That is a MAJOT problem to me because alot of people don't want other's knowing their password and when situations like this happen (when someone brings their system over) and you have alot of company, everyone can see your password. Is there an option, patch or update that can fix this problem?

I would like to know the answer to that as well,I just recently had to reboot my router and was surprised to see my actual pass word come up. I know for sure that didn't happen before when I hooked my 360 into my wireless network.

i dont think so. Come on dude, the password is to stop people from driving up next to your house or people next door jacking your internet and going to sites that cost money I'm not going list those type of sites but hey I'm sure most of you know. is it really that big of deal for your cousin to see the pass word if he wants online

I never use wireless so I cannot answer your specific question (I assume it cannot be converted to "****..."), but you can always:

1) Ask the person to just turn away (sort of useless if it's your cousin), or say and point "Look over there!" in excitement
2) Change your password whenever you have a get together. For example, use "password32" instead of your old one, "password31"

To be honest, I think you're worry more than necessary if it's your friends/family.

The problem isn't my cousin seeing it, it's other's I may have over as company or such. Read below for further explaination.

re: 1. I have a long password so the point and type won't work.

re. 2. Temporarily changing the password is a good idea but is tedious. That would be the best solution though.

My worry is a big deal, for instance, say if you have a super bowl party and it's alot of people over and someone wants to get online on their 360, everybody around can see your password and you never know some people's intentions so it is a big deal. The problem isn't my cousin seeing it, it's other people. 360 should fix this. A simple update would fix it. The Wii had this problem at one time but they updated it and now it shows "***" instead, so if they can do it, there's no reason why 360 can't. Is there a way to suggest this to Microsoft?

I'm a Wii gamer and I don't know much about the 360's updates so I thought I'd ask here. Thanks alot for all of you all's help. If there's anything you'd like to truthfully know about the Wii, I'd be glad to help. Just PM me.

If you have an old Xbox 360 dashboard, you can use the"Windows Connect Now" feature. You dump your network settings onto your USB flash drive and you just plug it into your Xbox 360. The Xbox 360 should detect your saved ESSID and your password.

The "Windows Connect Now" guide hasn't been updated for the new 2010 dashboard, however:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/962966/

Because it doesn't currently work for the new dashboard, I have the same problem too.

I have a 63-character WPA2 wireless password, and I won't be able to enter it every time I plug and unplug the wireless adapter, even though I have a USB keyboard.

The only workaround to connect my Xbox 360 wirelessly would be to add a new virtual access point in my router and set a shorter, less secure password. Although the password is shorter, I still have to type it every time I re-configure my Xbox 360 network settings.

To do use a virtual access point, your router or network device needs to support the creation of virtual access points or VAPs. If your router supports third-party firmware, such as DD-WRT or Tomato, I recommend that you install new firmware and create a new VAP. You can temporaily enable or disable the VAP and change the password anytime you want. This is a lot better than showing everyone your main wireless access point's password.

Unfortunately, it looks like the new update has removed some useful networking features, such as "Windows Connect Now" and NAT detection.

The password is mainly to keep people living in the surrounding area from using your internet connection without your permission. From there they might be able to access personal information on your computer, but the big reason is that they'd be slowing down your own internet by hogging up bandwidth. I live in an apartment, and there's usually 5-6 wireless access points from my living room at any given time because other people live in such close proximity. We put up a password to make sure someone isn't leeching free internet from us.

Unless you have friends who very computer intelligent AND for some reason think they can find something worthwhile to hack into AND have a grudge against you (why are they at your house in the first place?) I really wouldn't worry about it. Just make sure you aren't using the same password for everything else, ie your email, etc.
