Hey, I was wondering how much memory you guys got ripped off when you first started up your Xbox. When I got my Halo Reach console I only started out with 238gb. I kinda felt ripped off :P

Well I saw a you tube video of a guy reviewing his 4 gb and I believe he had just over 3gb. I remember when I bought my 120gb HDD extra when I bought my very frist Xbox 360 used. The HDD was bought brand spanking new from Wal Mart. I only started out with 107gb. I actually sold the HDD and a different friend after I bought my Xbox 360 S, I re-formatted it and it still only had 107. But I have heard of people getting even less than that :?

its because.. and i dont know the exact figuares but your not getting ripped at all its just the way how actual memory works.. like 120 gigs isn't actually that much memory but rather around 112 or somewhere around there.. memory is different when its translated into computing

It's because some devices read 1000Mb as a Gb, and some read 1024Mb as a Gb. When they sell it to you, they're basing it off the 1000/1 ratio, and the xbox reads it using the 1024/1 ratio. Meaning that, while you have the same amount of space, it just gets read as less.

Also, the xbox reserves some space on the HDD for system updates and cache and other things of the sort. That's why some people are having problems running some games like Reach. The 4Gb 360S just doesn't have enough cache for the game to run properly.
