When I first got my HDTV I played around with the 720p and 1080i for a while and I must say that 720p looked a lot crisper to me. 1080i had a sort of slight shimmering effect to it. My TV is a 50in Sony Bravia DLP.
You would have to check and see if your TV can display 1080p. Not many of them do. Mine doesn't.
I have a really nice HDTV around 50 inches (I actually don't know but it is pretty big, and it's Sony). All I have is component cables and I am planning on getting the VGA's soon. So for now, which is usually better overall: 720p or 1080i?it depends on the native resolution of your TV, whatever that is, the display will be better when set to that. And you will be able to get 1080p with VGA cables, if your TV is 1080p capable
And i know that once i get the VGA's to use 1080p...correct? ;p

[QUOTE="viper3885"]I prefer 720p, I've tried 1080i and 1080p and I didn't really notice a difference. I have a 42" Westinghouse HD monitor, it's native resolution is 720p if that makes a difference.Kravyn81From what I've heard you need a 50"+ to notice any difference. -K Yea, I've heard the same. I guess that proves it :)
480i = 640 x 480i = 240 lines on your display/ old school this is your grandma's tv
480p 640 x 480p or 800 x 480p =480 lines on your display/ kinda new kinda old this is what you see dvd's if you have it set to progressive scan
720p = 1280 x 720p = 720 lines on your display/ this res was made after 1080i due to its superior performance in action scenes like sports and games
1080i = 1920 x 1080i = 540 lines on your display ths is more suited for slow moving images and stills
1080p = 1920 x 1080p = 1080 lines on your display the best in hd but only for tv's 55'' or bigger if less than 50" you will be hard pressed to see a diff
