Hello.

I recently bought oblivion and im having some great fun with it :) ive destroyed the first oblivion gate (Kvatch) and have become grand champion of the arena.

Anyway onto my questions......

1. If i complete the main storyline of the game first can i then carry on playing the game doing all of the sidequests, levelling up and completing all the dungeons etc? without having to revert back to a previous save to do it all?

2. I have done a number of those random countryside oblivion gates and they are now getting quite boring due to them all being the same. Am i missing much if i just ignore them and carry on through the main quest as normal? or will i be missing some uber item at some point?

Wow Oblivion, say goodbye to your social life...

Anyway, answers...

  1. The quest is very open-ended, so you can complete the main quest and still go back and do everything else. The difficulty of the enemies that you encounter changes depending on your level, so the game is always at a fair difficulty level. You can pretty much go through all of the guilds in any pattern that you want to, the games well designed in that respect.
  2. The Oblivion gates are repetitive, the only reason to beat them is for the treasure you may find. There are around 50 (i think) dotted around Cyrodiil, but you don't need to beat them all, but for levelling up purposes they do come in useful.

the gates are fairly pointless after a while, although the sigil stones get very useful once you get to higher levels (the things you take from Oblivion to destroy the gate) and the loot you get also depends on your level, the higher you are, the better the loot

I found the game more fun without the completing the main storyline. You get more in the end-game on main storyline if your character is level 51 anyway, and you get to complete all the oblivion dungeons, which becomes really a challenge beyond level 40.
