Ok, in stores I've seen the ESO game with a "T" for Teen on instead of the "M" for Mature. I don't play "M" games, but Elder Scrolls Oblivion is a cool game from watching it. Is the "T" for Teen on some of them just a mistake, or is it an edited, or just clean, version of the game???

ESRB changed it from T to M because of a PC mod (it has nudity) so they changed it to M. I would say it isn't even M rated.

Well it was originally supposed to be T but, the ESRB over looked sections that contained extreme gore also because, of the PC version some one would create a mod so there could be naked characters. I don't know if you saw an edited version of the game though.

So most of you are sayin they changed it cuz of a mod on the PC, I'm talking about the XBOX 360 version,is the 360 one M cuz of the same thing or, what?

Is it that section with more intense gore, or, what?

Yes I know alot of the best games are M, I used to play them, but, it's just part of my standards and beliefs.

It's hard playing games in this console generation and not playing M games. Most games released are rated M and most of those M games are some of the best.

But Oblivion was rated T at first but then there was a nudity mod for the PC version so they changed all version to be rated M. The ESRB also underestimated the blood in the game so that was the main reason the console versions were changed to an M since you can't do the nudity mod on the consoles.

I wouldn't be so sure about that a lot of people learned how to hack their XBOX's and who knows maybe Orcs are getting tenticle raped, but yes there is a lot of blood in the game and there is alot of gore.(For those who been in the Anvil light house for that mission.)

There was a guy who used to work at GameSpot and he refused to play M rated games. He was apparently a hardcore Christian.

They've since patched out that nudity mod for the console games. I also think hacking your 360 or PS3 just so you can see some poorly rendered boobs is a bit desperate.

You know how the ESRB is I remember something about them seeing the scene in the lighthouse where there's skulls bones dried blood and satanic stuff all over the room, I guess that's considered gore.

The lighthouse quest is the quest with the Dark Brotherhood where the informant is killed right? I remember seeing that with his naked torso hanging upside down decapitated and oozing blood thinking "how in the world did this game get a T rating?".

Yea it's been a while, I'm pretty sure it was for the dark brotherhood but, I don't remember the hanging body I just remember a dead body on the bed though.

This is why I liked that rating system they had back in the day, where games were rated from zero to four on violence, language, and sexual content. It was a lot more informative than just "T" or "M." My ratings for Oblivion:

  • Violence: 3, killing with blood and gore. You (can) kill a lot of animals, monsters, and people in Oblivion. There is a small to moderate amount of blood, but no gibbing (dismemberment). In rare areas, you may come across already-dismembered corpses.
  • Language: 1, mild profanity. You'll hear a "damn" every now and again. There's nothing in Oblivion you can't say on GameSpot, so I'd say the language is pretty mild.
  • Sexual Content: 2, partial nudity. You can see people in their underwear. Yay. I can see that at a public swimming pool. There's no sex in the 360 version of Oblivion; everyone's chaste and frustrated. There might be some hidden area in the game that has girls dancing in their medieval bikinis (Morrowind did).

I think you would do well, thread creator, to consider the content of games individually, rather than creating arbitrary rules around T or M ratings.

Oblivion came out shortly after the GTA:SA hot coffee mod problems, this was back when Jack Thompson was up in arms about everything video games.

The PC version of Oblivion allowed users to create modifications for the game to share with the public. Some kid make a nude skin mod for the game and Jack Thompson freaked out. To avoid any problems the ESRB quickly changed all versions of the game from a T rating (which the game diserves) to an M rating. The 360 game can not run these mods, and you can choose not to install the mod on the PC version if you choose to purchase it.

The game really should not be rated M. It shoud have kept the T rating it was released with.

Hey guys thanks for your info. Due to Oblivion's rating and it's content, I think I'll just get Morrowind for the XBOX. Maybe I can see what game store workers say but, we'll see, but I'm pretty sure I'll just get Morrowind.

And for those of you wondering about the no "M" game thing and the whole "morals/standards" and whatever. I've been Mormon/LDS my entire life, but my parents were ok with "M" games and "R" movies and stuff. Then a few lessons at a scout camp a few years ago made me rethink some stuff, i don't know, but, it just made me decide to quite "M" game, "R" movies, and caffiene (which I know most likely sounds dumb to you guys), but, yeah, that's why.

And heck, there's supposedly a TES game coming for the PSP, hopefully it isn't just a rumor and hopefully it didn't or doesnt get cancelled, cuz that would be Tight playing TES on the go!

Dude, I've said this already, I USED to play M games, and besides, DOOM on the GBA is T, which is the one I play.

When the start making ya go door to door just leave the church, please god just leave the church [QUOTE}

I know your probably joking, but still, no way I'm leaving the church. And as for the door to door thing, already do that, sometimes any way for some stuff, and yes I do want to serve a mission!

Guys, seriously, why ya making a fuss about me being LDS and what not, it's my standard and belief, it's my life dont make a big deal out of the religion and no M game and stuff. Just let me do and believe what I do and believe, you don't have to keep commenting on it!

The 360 version of oblivion is only M rated becasue of the PC version. It really is a T rated game, an is much less brutal than most T rated games I've played. The game is so much better than Morrowind it would be a bumber for you to miss out on such a great game.

Check out the video review and some of the gameplay videos on gamespot, you'll see this is far far from an M rated game.

You'll be missing out on a HUGE game if you missing Oblivion. Trust me don't even worry about the "M" on the box. It is a T rated game. If it helps you feel better, try and find a used copy where the game box has a "T" on it.

It was originally T ( mine is) but the ESRB changed it, as posted above, because of a mod on the computer.

Ya know what fine, I'll ask one of the GameStop people if it really is, I believe ya, the ESRB are known for being complete idiots! I'll ask somebody there and also see if they have the T one. Plus, I have to get my 360 sent to Microsoft and fixed up cuz of the stupid Red Lights Of Death!!! So, we'll see, but depending on what I get outta the GameStop guy and the T thing, and if my 360 can even get fixed, the warranty has expired a while ago, I "Might" get Obliviion, but also depending on what happens, I might get Morrowind.

And guys, I've played Oblivion, didn't get very far, last thing I did was go to some big school or whaever, talked to some reptallian professor, went in the sewers and I don't remember what I got there, I think it was a scroll of some Daedra thing, idk.

And please, I don't want to have to repeat this again, stop making a big deal out of me not playing M games and bein LDS or whatever.

[UN-QUOTE] That's kinda retarded that if it gets an M rating on one platform it has to get the same on another, even if it isnt bad enough to be M. Actually, now I remember playing the com version of Halo, it was WAY bloodier than the XB version! I guess that helps prove your guys' point! There should really be a petition to get all the retarded people off the ESRB, which judging by ratings they give nowadays, like Halo on XB, should be T, and if your right, Oblivion, that's gonna take a LOT of signatures!!!

Well this little part of the TES:O article from Wikipedia confirms what you said, and what I said about the ESRB in my last post. (sorry for so many posts in a row) Rating change Main article: ESRB re-rating of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion In North America on May 3, 2006, the Entertainment Software Rating Board changed Oblivion's rating from T (Teen 13+) to M (Mature 17+), citing game content not considered in the ESRB review. "The presence in the PC version of the game of a locked-out art file that, if accessed by using an apparently unauthorized third party tool,[88] allows the user to play the game with topless versions of female characters. In response to the new content, the ESRB conducted a new review of Oblivion, showing to its reviewers the content originally submitted by Bethesda along with the newly disclosed content. The new review resulted in an M rating. The ESRB reported that Bethesda Softworks, the game's developer and publisher, would promptly notify all retailers of the change, issue stickers for retailers and distributors to affix on the product, display the new rating in all following product shipments and marketing, and create a downloadable patch rendering the topless skin inaccessible. Bethesda complied with the request, but disagreed with the ESRB's rationale. Although certain retailers began to check for ID before selling Oblivion as a result. and one California Assemblyman used the event to criticize the ESRB for failing once again, the events passed by with little notice from either the public at large or gaming journalists in particular. Although the mod was only used in the Windows PC-version, the rating was changed for all systems. The last sentence makes me want to strangle the ESRB and whoever the Cali Assemblyman is!!! Well, if I get my 360 fixed, I'm sure as heck getting Oblivion (the T one of course), that right there thing above, Stupidest thing I ever heard!!! Sorry, I tend to rant when I talk about something that pisses me off in these things haha!!!

I'd say it's barely an M, even without that whole nudity patch business. There is a lot of blood and gore, although only on some missions, and it's possible to have a T experience with the game.

Blood aint bad, the only kind of bad part is when you are in oblivion, I have only seen it in Kvatch (I think that is the spelling) and you can see a bit of brain on a head. Nothing bad.

Oh yeah, the Arena is pretty bloody though.

Is it really that bad? I never noticed! Either way I'd ask whoevers working the counter at GameStop first, just as a precausion. But is it really bad? Help me out here!

Oh, wait, what Arena are you talking about, do mean the TES Arena game, or is that a place in the Oblivion game?

Somebody already did this on 1st page of topic but idk if it was 1-10 or 1-5 or 1-3 or whatever. So, 1-10 10 being the most gory, 1 being the least, so Everyone rate its goryness! And say if you think it would fall in T appropriate or M appropriate. And also if there are games you can compare it too and say it's less blood than this game (which is rated T), that would help too, sorry if this is wierd but, I just need to make sure!!!

And please, I don't want to have to repeat this again, stop making a big deal out of me not playing M games and bein LDS or whatever.

I respect you not playing M rated games. that's a big committment. oblivion was originally a T rated game and it got changed. comparatively speaking, it's not and M rated game like fallout 3 or gears of war. Oblivion is really very mild compared to most M rated games. Also i would not ask anyone from gamestop. much like the esrb, they're known for being idiots.

Thanks dcap8424! Yeah, about the GameStop people, that is most likely true haha! But hey, if I grab an Oblivion case off the wall that has T on it and he/she starts saying crap, I guess I'll know. But maybe I should bring that section of the Wikipedia article haha! Who knows, maybe, just maybe the cashier is smart enough to know ESRB is fully of mentally challenged people who hate video games and try to make life for gamers chaotic and frustrating, and also know it's the PC version, and not the XB360 version that is Really M! Heck I don't even see why the PC version is M, Bethseda made a thing that made it impossible to get that mod anymore!

Hey man i'm christian and I say good for you man. You have my blessing. But if you have played Oblivion you saw the zombie in the beginning which may be the most gory thing without blood. But there are zombie corpses in puddles of blood sometimes. But also I believe that God wants us to have a lil' fun every now and then you know? These games aren't hurting anyone. Its just light and sound. So I don't think he'll mind if you witness a little gore, Or slash some daedra

Cool thanks Rummy500!

Yes I know having some fun is all good, but I still think I should take Everything about the game into consideration! I mean, it was only turned M cuz a stupid PC mod which cant be accessed on a 360, so turning it to M on 360 is just plain retarded, just as the ESRB are!

But heck, I'm not gonna like, pray about a game, that would be a stupid thing to ask about and just see if it's ok, I don't think anyone would get a feeling or somekind of small personal revelation from that haha!!! And I don't remember the zombie in the beginning, I mean, the games full of monsters and creatures so, didn't notice, or I just don't remember. Was it in the Plains Of Oblivion? What happened, it's been a while?!

And Everyone: This isn't a question of if my parents will let me play it, it's my own thing, if it is officially decided it's M, my mom and stepdad won't care, my dad and stepmom will, and I will. So help me make a decision that would be in the best interest of my morals and feelings about this kindof stuff!!!

Oh, and I just got my 360 registered and stuff last night, Microsoft is sending the box so I can send it back and get it fixed! Yippee! Now I just to figure this whole dang Oblivion thing out!!!

There's some blood and a little cussing, but the game is pretty tame overall. My copy is rated "T".

There's a zombie in the starter dungeon you go through. It's either right before or right after Patrick Stewart gets killed.

They are the exact same game. The ESRB just had to change the rating (for both PC and consoles) just because there was a PC mod that enabled nudity. Yeah that's competely stupid, but try not to think about for too long or you'll get a nose bleed.

I gotcha man I'll help you as best I can. The blood when you slash is like one of those splatters you'd see in an 1950's horror movie. lol Then it disappears after 5 seconds. And nothing physically happens to the body that your slashin'z. But you don't seem to be that worried about the blood as much about something else. Let me know what your concerned about. I've played this game THROUGH and THROUGH seen everything.

Oh hey sorry for posting again but, you said were in the plains of Oblivion right? Well that is the most violent place in the game where the daedra have tortured the humans and stuff. Just adding that in. And the most Sexually explicit piece is undressing female bodies down to the bikini and moving them around. And they never say the S F word so thats a small worry.

[QUOTE="Cowing30"]by not playn M games your reaaaaaaaaaaaly missin out. all the best games are rated M. but Oblivion really should be a T rated gamemanhunt92
true, but not necessarily the best ones

^this. But Left 4 dead, gears of war and Fallout 3 are brilliant. However, the CoD series and Battlefield series and Oblivion are rgreat games.

Wow! I'm now very pleased that I'm not religious.

Rummy500, thanks! Yeah it is the blood i'm most concerned about, and the strippin down to bikinis, we've all seen that at pools and beaches even as little kids, that aint a bad thing, it's normal. I mean in the locker rooms of most public pools theres almost always an old guy walking around naked (which I have unfortunately seen) Eeww!!! So no worries as far as that goes but it is the blood and gore I'm worried about! Ok so combat blood is appearently all good as you've said, but what about scenic blood and gore. Some people have said theres some brains and stuff but, you know what, the stuff in this game is stuff you'd probably see in Indiana Jones And The Temple Of Doom, which is PG, probably PG-13 by todays standards. But yeah, I've seen torture chambers with blood on like spikes and stuff but I don't really remember. How bad is it???

Hey guys! I talked to a friend at school about Oblivion! I know some of you guys have said this same thing to an extent, but, what this friend said is that it's Veerryy Boody! In some areas there are chopped up limbs and alot of blood on the floor and walls, more specifically in the Arena! And kindof in the Plans Of Oblivion is where there is also more blood! And from his description of the gore and other stuff, I think it would just be better for me to get Morrowind instead of Oblivion! And the friend also said he like Morrowind more than Oblivion anyways!

I'll miss going to Oblivion!

But, this is probably my final decision!

I'll just get Morrowind Game Of The Year Edition!!! So, thanks for telling me what you knew, it helped!

Oh wait, one more question! In Morrowind can you choose what you want to say like in Oblivion, or is it just like regular NPC diolague???

My mind is made up dude! I don't want to see mutilated corpses and huge puddles of blood! The decision has been made and it isn't going to change! So unless I get filthy stinking rich enough to pay Bethsada to edit a copy for me, I'm not gettin Oblivion, so stop trying to change my mind!

And, what journal?
