Am I the only one in here who buys games rated 9.0 or higher?

I bought a 360 last November and since then I have bought GEoW, Oblivion, RS: Vegas and now recently I bought Forza 2. Now this is the 1st time I bought a Microsoft console so I don't know what to expect because last generation I purchased a PS2. I really like the 360 but in my opinion there is lack of high quality games on the system. Example the PS2 had some truly great games one year into it's release like GTA III, MGS2, Final Fantasy, Jak and Daxter, Grand Turismo 3 andf such. All those games were exclusive to the PS2 at the time however only GEoW and Forza 2 are 360 only. Oblivion, RS: Vegas and GRAW are all multiplatform games. Sorry but I don't buy average games like Crackdown, Lost planet and such. Also I don't really make my decisions entirely on what score game gets from reviewer but most often the really AAA reviews are the best ones to purchase especially since now games cost 60 bucks. My policy is rent and then buy.

Anyway I'm not trying to start a system war but I just feel I paid too much for only 2 AAA exclusive in 18 months.

I know fanboys will bring up Halo 3 so ok now 3 AAA exclusive in 2 years.

Grand Theft IV is multiplatform so it doesn't count.

Also I don't know what to expect from games like Mass Effect, Too Human and Bioshock so I will hold judgement on them.

I just want some serious discussion without fanboyism on this topic because I feel disappointed when I got more for my money last generation. Again this doesn't have anything to do with the PS3 so don't bring it up.

I was until Shadowrun since the comments on here were so positive.  I'm still so glad I bought it.

Saying the 360 lacks great games is ridiculous I think though.

I don't buy games based on what other people say about them. If you limit your gaming to the the GS staff say is good, then you're missing out.

So far I've bought Gears of War, Call of Duty 2 & 3, F.E.A.R, GRAW, and Rainbow Six Vegas since all I really like are FPS.

Only buying games based on reviews is pretty ignorant imo. I buy what I think looks like fun. I love Excite Truck, red Steel, and a ton of others that had poor reviews (Mario Kart 64 got a 6.4). Crackdown and Lost Planet are not average games. TBH, you're not a gamer imo. Can I report a poster for being a sheep? ;)

I never said gamespot was god and I took their word for. No I usually check out the games myself ie RENT & BUY.

However I always check what the average score for a game is on gamerankings.com before I buy.

Look all I saying is that is a game is rated 9 or higher by 10 different websites and magazine then most often that game turns out to be good.

I don't buy into hype PERIOD.

But I make informative decisions and rent all games before I buy.

actually all games that i own right now (PD0, GHII, Gears, R6V) except for Dead Rising are AAA on this site... although i didn't pay attention to the reviews when buying the games.  i usually know what game i want to buy before reviews even come out because i normally follow my most anticipated game before release.

Reviewers have opinions, and my opinions aren't always the same as theirs. If a game looks decent, I'll buy it. I buy games that score poorly like Shadowrun, and it's a phenomenal game.

You, my friend, are missing out on some of the best games the 360 has to offer. Don't let the media brainwash you, think for yourself! If you only buy AAA games because the "review sites" let you buy them, then you are nothing but a mindless sheep.

You're giving exclusivity way too much importance. Not counting multiplatform games towards the AAA title count is pretty stupid imho.

I dont say if its get 9.0 I wont play it. But most of the games I have are rated high, because there good games. I usually buy from companies I like with devolpers that have a history of making games that I enjoyed.  Yea and just bc its multiplatform doesnt mean that its not a AAA title, or even a good/great game.

Well you should at least check out some "average" games. I loved DQH:Rocket Slime(7.8) and GW: Nightfall (8.2), but I hate GTA, which is a AAA franchise. Also on GS, 8.0-8.9 sometimes means its better for fans of the genre than a AAA game is (Disgaea for example), they just aren't as "accessible" (read: easy, GS editors bash things on the basis of "buh...buh..buh.. its to hard T_T" way to often - see DMC3 and Kid Icarus reviews).

7-7.9 = Good, 8-8.9 = GREAT, 9.-9.9 = Superb, 10 = Perfect. Obviously a game that's great is probably worth buying. (If you're going by GS's standards.

I only buy games that score really well, but I also rent games that sound interesting no matter what their score is. I usually end only keeping the games that score well though. Personally I think it is very smart to use reviews in helping decide what games to get and even smarter to use a renting service like Gamefly as well. Nothing sucks worst then buying into the hype people are saying about a game, going out and buying the game, only to discover that you lose interest in the game a few weeks later and you just pretty much wasted 60 bucks.

The reviews can help you make up your mind on whether to buy a game or not... but don't buy it just because of a review

Example:  One of MY (my - not yours or anyone elses, so no flaming...) favorite games of all time is Phantasy Star Online (never played it online though) for the GameCube.  Me and my friends put so much time in that game it's not even funny.  But here at GS, i think they rated it 7.5 or something (too lazy to check:P)

i've owned plenty of "crappy" games that I have really enjoyed... i guess it all comes down to personal preference.

So lemme ask you this, how many AAA games do other next gen consoles have? and also Why do you care if they are exclusives? 1! between the 3 consoles, there have been 3 AAA EXCLUSIVE games, Forza, Gears, and Wario Ware.

PUT THAT IN YOUR PIPE AND SMOKE IT.

Gamespot is horrible for reviews. I just read Gameinformer, they havent steered me wrong yet.

edit: they gave PD0 a 9.0!! Is that a AAA title? hell no. If you're a "AAA only buyer" based on gamespot, you're a complete idiot.

Buying only AAA games is extremely ignorant. The review number is not supposed to be the green light for you to buy the game or not. You're supposed to read the review and make your own opinion on what it said. But let me guess you don't even read the review? just skip straight to the rating?

I own both Spiderman 3 and Crackdown. The difference between owning a game and renting it is when you get the urge you can just pop it in and play for a bit. I know for a fact you didn't get all the orbs in crackdown with a rental. Also, when the dlc content came out is was great to own the game so I could check out what turned out to be great added features. I guess I've just always liked owning games, same goes for dvd's.

No, because that's foolish. Many of the 9+ games on Gamespot didn't deserve it (PDZ, Gears of War), and many that DID deserve 9+ didn't get it. Also, often Gamespot will mark games down for graphics, but they end up being phenomenal games. Like Lego Star Wars II... lot of fun, but marked down for the graphics. What, too blocky? lol, silly Gamespot.

You should play games because YOU enjoy them, not because GameSpot enjoys them.

All I can say is you are missing out a bunch of great games. And so what if they are multiplatform? If they are good games it means more people playing and more money for the developer to make more games.

Anyway to each his own, but you have to admit the competition isn't any better.

Buying 9.0+ games only is a little fussy.

It's not that the 360 hasn't got any good games - it's simply that your standards are too high.

It just depends on what you like to play. We all have varying opinions in what we like (as you can tell) but if you really like a certain type of genre or certain game you have been tracking, it could be a AAA game to you depending on how much you like it. It is always nice to see a game you really are interested in get a high score/rating.

I dont really base my purchase on reviews that other people gave it.  I like to form my own opinion and if that means renting it before I buy it that works as well ^^.

I hate to mention the obvious but the xbox 360 really is the next gen console with the best titles out there so far. Trust me if you're only playing (gamespot) AAA games then you cant be a complete gamer. I wouldnt of found gems like Shenmue, Ico, and Katamaria if I only played reviewed AAA Games, and to summarise the competition:

PS3: No exclusive AAA games

Wii: Just warioware it seems, so I took gamespots word for it, bought the game......and hated it.

At th very least try giving the games an 8.0+ shot a go, im certain youll find some in that criteria youll love.

I read reviews for the game content and information about the game, I take the reviewers own opinion with a grain of salt.

im sure its been said but you shouldnt buy games just because someone else rates em low.there are amazing games like crackdown, dead rising and call of duty that are below 9 and are exelent, and you might really like them too if you would play them.of course, sometimes you shouldnt get gaames that are rates 7 or under, but if its 7 or up you should at least give it a glance.
