I like challenges in my games and I also like side challenges that aren't really neccessary to complete the game (sometimes). Does anyone else not really care though about getting every single achievement in every game they come across?

I get so tired of people saying stupid things like "Hey you still haven't gotten all your achievements on this game" or "you need to beat whatever level faster to unlock this achievement".

If I feel like going after a specifc challenge I will do so, like I got the perfect score in pac-man because I like that game and wanted to see if I could do it, I got the full difficulty one in SF2 because my skills rusted over the years and I wanted to return my old arcade skills to their former glory and I beat omega weapon in FF8 because I felt like it(no achievements on PS1) and Sephiroth on KH2 for the same reason but I'm not going to try and do achievements I'm not interested in just to make a number go up next to my name.

Does anyone else feel like I do?

I do. I tend to only go after hard achievements, mostly for the challenge. However, there are games that I enjoy enough that I do want 1000/1000 in and go out of my way to get them. Mostly I just go after the ones I want though. Rainbow on realistic. COD2 on vet. Gears on insane. Condemned using only melee weapons.

I like achievements not for the points but for the challenge. They give a lot of games replay value they might not otherwise have.

I was really statrting to wonder if it was just me or not. That is how I play, just the challenges I'm really interested in personally. Glad to see I'm not the only one.

Oh yeah moralstakes how is condemned? I was thinking about getting that.

achievement points are pretty meaning less.. but i still like to try and get as many as i can, sometimes i play games purely for the achievement points

but i just think for the most part, achievement points add a little longevity to games.. for eg, lets say u complete a game, and normally you wouldn't bother play it again, but you realise that if u completed, with a faster time, or whater you would have got some points for it.. so you try it again..

btw, achievement point aren't really new, games have for a long time now have had some thing to unlock for completing a certain task, an achievement if you will, having points on a gamercard also gives you braggin rights

Condemned was a lot of fun. That was one of the games I really wanted to max out. It just a had an awesome, spooky feel to it. There were things I wished were different, but other than the length I don't want to mention them if you're going to play it. It was kind of short. But playing through with melee weapons only greatly lengthened it and made it a lot more challenging.

If you like scary, heartpounding, weird fun Condemned is for you!

I mostly just ignore them completely, except when im in a competition with someone.

For example, me and a buddy would go back and foreth trying to get the highest score on geometry wars. On top of that, it also turned into a competition of who could get the survive 1,000,000 acheivement first.

Other tehn that, i never bother with them.

Thanks I think I'm going to get condemned. But i'm glad everyone wayed in on the whole achievement thing. I was wondering if everyone took it so seriously that they annoyed everyone else they played with onl-ine with petty crap about getting every achievement. The people i come into contact with online are usually annoying, ignorant or racist. Glad to see some intelligence out there

I don't care whatsoever about achievments. I just play through the game and have fun.

I do go after certain achievements (like Zombie Genocider in Dead Rising, which I spent 3 hours getting last week), but I don't feel it's necessary to get the full 1000 at all.

I would definitely agree that achievement points add replay value..

I cared about the numbers when it meant getting free stuff. Finished my challenge, so now I'm playing Oblivion again -- which I got 1000 points in a month after purchasing my 360. There are a few achievements I'll probably make a real go at... like I have four left in Dead Rising. I'd like to pick those up. Particularly because one is the "save everyone" achievement, which is a really good achievement. And the "7 day survivor" because everyone complains about how difficult it is. I haven't even played infinity mode yet.
