I know its been said and done, but its always an interesting topic. Just thought id get an updated opinion from everyone.

I voted for answer 2. I personally try to get as many achievements as possible, but i don't go for the really hard ones, even if its the last achievement. Its nice to have 100% on a game, but adding as much as 10-20 hours on a game for a single achievement is not what i worry about. In all i really enjoy going for them. It really adds some playability for me to set a goal such as beating a game on hard when i normally would not play it beyond easy just for that achievement.

I used to be answer 1 with my PS3. Since my first completed game i got in an addiction of having to get every trophy possible. For example FF13. 108 hours to completion. I beat the game at 40 hours, spend an additional 30 hours getting everything but one achievement/trophy. Then spent 38 hours getting a single achievement doing the exact same thing for 38 hours total play time.

The only thing i like about Cheevos is that youve got a badge saying "Yeah i did this!". That being said, theres some things id rather not be marked permanently for doing... Like playing a bunch of embarrasing games for Ach points. I have notifications turned off, its quite liberating. I like to check every now and then to see what i got and why... "I killed 1000 dudes? Sweet!" But i dont go out of my way unless im really inspired.

When I pop in a game, I look at the achievements and try to get them as I progress through the game, but whether or not I get all of them really depends on how the game is set up. Games like Borderlands are nice to try to get all of the achievements for, because you can go back to various levels and areas regardless of you character level. The achievements aren't a one shot deal, and the ones that are are the ones that I tend to skip. For instance, in the game Darksiders, I missed the achievement to destroy a certain number of enemies while flying on a heavenly mount. I didn't know it existed, and passed it up. But it took me a few hours to get to that point, and I probably won't go back and play through the game just to get that one achievement. On the other hand, difficult achievements like the ones in Reach for completing the solo campaign on legendary, while difficult, I will still go back and get. It's really a game-to-game basis for me... But I do love me some achievements.

I like my achievements- 1. They help me marks things- whenever I get a new game, I like to get an achievement that day to mark when I bought the game. 2. They give me ideas on how to play less conventionally, I.E. beat such-and-such a level without being seen, or destroy a target building with a smart bomb beacon attached to an enemy vehicle or something. 3. Occasionally, they let me know when I did something super cool without even knowing it- Assassin's Creed: defeat xx (20, I think) enemies in a single open conflict. I just hate it when a game puts a seemingly impossible goal before me- I don't even waste my time. So, OP, what was so important you spent 38 hours trying to accomplish it?

Well the achievement/trophy was called Treasure Hunter. It required you to have one of every item in the game in your inventory at least once. To get most these items you had to have an absurd amount of money to buy the materials needed to craft the items. This turned into doing whatever it took to get money the fastest and do that till complete. Now i would never do that again, but at the time i just got pure joy of having it "complete or a platinum trophy" I don't regret it cause i wanted to do it and regretting something means you knew you shouldn't have done it to begin with, but for me now 38 hours is roughly 3 games. :P

I usually go for them unless they are near impossible (Mile high club - COD4), mind-numbingly boring (Collecting 100 flags in Assassin's creed), or online-related (Win 500 online games without getting hit).

1. Why the devil would you want to keep the receipt? They all look nthe same and they fade over time. And they're little bits of paper. 2. If the game is about getting through unnoticed, and it has an achievement for being on the run for five minutes, that's unconventional. For additional examples, see the rest of my original post.

I've only had an xbox about a month and haven't played it much so my gamerscores about 300? But my best PSN account before it got hacked had 402 trophies. My current one I made about 2 months ago and it has about 40. After being hacked, i really can't be bothered with trophies anymore unless i get REALLY bored. Or i just get them as i go along :)

How dedicated I am to the achievements is based on how well I like the game. I am a huge ME fanboy so I have almost all of the achievments (just need to do my insane run and the Shadow Broker DLC). Most games don't really interest me enough to do more than just the story mode. If it is a game like COD I usually focus on the MP rather then the SP so I never get many of those achieves.

lol.

on topic

I just go for whatever I tend to get. My goal is not really achievements but to beat the game. All the other stuff is just perks but not something I care for. I do like seeing my gamer score go up. It just depends on the game and how much I like playing it that makes me try or not.

Well, I grinded Seriously 2.0 so I guess answer 1 is for me. I think achievements generally help you to get the most out of a game, extend its duration. Now, in no small part thanks to achievements, I don't consider a game finished until i have beaten it on the hardest difficulty, even if there is no achievement for that.

edit: I don't really care about online achievements though, I think they just promote boosting.

I go for the ones that I have fun doing. It's not really a matter of how long it takes to get for me. For example, I have the achievement for 100 hours played in Tales of Vesperia (I actually have over 250 hours in that game), but I don't have the achievement for the insanity difficulty playthrough in ME2. I could get it, but I don't have fun playing in insanity difficulty because I get frustrated.

I always play through the game the first time without looking at the achievements andI just play how I want. Then I will look at the achievements and go back through the game trying to get more. It really depends on the game for me too. I only have5 or 6 games 100%. Fallout: New Vegas was my most recent and WOW that took me a long time to do. According to Raptr, my final play time was 126 hours! I was so relieved when the final achievement popped up that I turned off the game and took the disc out of the tray, put it on my shelf and haven't touched it since. I loved that game, but after that long I am done with it until the DLC comes out.

I'm kind of inbetween 1 and 2.

I play games countless times and for countless hours. But there are some games I just won't go back to to get those last achievements, meanwhile I'm in my third playthrough of FO:NV to get 3 achievements, which will take roughly 30 hours to get.

haha so true. im more of number 2 but some games ill try and get them all i probably have i guess about 9 games ive 1000/1000. and sad to say ive boosted a few online ones. and im like the one guy i like AC2 but im not sure i feel bothered enough to get all 100 feathers. that said i can usually sucker a friend into doing some for me lol. wouldnt be the first time since im going home for xmas i may sucker my one friend who has 1000/1000 AC2 to help with those last 8 achievements. honestly depends on the game really.

Interesting to see what everyone thinks about this. Back when i was Ps3 and on those forums you didn't find a large crowd of people that went all the way with trophies.

Would anyone here buy/play a game just because its has an easy 1000g? I did on Ps3. Just look at my PS3 list and see my shame. I went pretty low, even as far as Hanna Montana : The Movie.

Of course ill never do something like that again. I was on some silly addiction to increase a number.

I play the games for fun and if there are any achievements that are fun to do, I'll do them. Depending on the game, sometimes I don't pay attention to the list of achievements and I just play the game to finish it. And with other games like Pac Man DX, I look at them first.

A lot depends on how much I like the game. I usually don't go after all of them, but if I like the game a lot, I might chase some extra ones just to stretch it out. Other than that, I just will finish the single player campaign and get what I can along the way and whatever happens happens.

I think achievements and gs are one of the 360's best features!

They extend the lifetime of games, add an extra competitive extra and can be fun to get them.

I answered for number 2 as I like to aim for 600/ 700 on games if possible (depending on the game) but won't go out of my way to get the ones that take ages :)

Ya they are but gaming isn't far from it either. Fact is achievements have proven to increase sales and developers milk that so thats why they exist. Also its just an extra. Say you headshot 100 people, although you won't get a physical reward, its nice to see a notification that you completed it. I see them only as a challenge to my will. Will i have enough patience and determination to complete some of the challenges. It also gives a reason to try harder or go as far as play the game even after ive beat it.

That, of course, it just my view and opinion.
