Seriously... A witty comment > anything. Nothing shuts someone up quite like a quick whiff of intelligence once and a while.

Except then you run into situations like this. Lamer: HURDURR~! You: [ question ] Lamer: [ insult of you/mother/race/gender ] You: [ witty retort ] Lamer: [ screaming in your ear ] You: [ respectful request to keep voice down ] Lamer: [ hostile insults and sudden spam of message list with hate speech, threats, etc. ] Lamer's Friends: [ homophobic insinuations to compensate for their lack of sexual activity, genitalia, prowess ] You: [ request for peaceful reconciliation ] Lamer: I ARE WIN, B000N!!1!1!1ELEVEN!111 People like that need to just die.

I couldn't agree more with him. There is nothing worse for your gaming experience then having to hear crap like that.

I'll be the ******* here then I guess. I disagree with this Sesseler guy.

Live is full of nothing but low moraled trashy people. Why use a mic on live? I don't know. All people do is swear, use nasty trash talk and belittle each other.

But should people be sick of others saying things that are racist or homophobic? Well in order for that to happen people would have to stop fitting the profiles.

Almost every single black guy on Live seems to be yelling in some "ghetto" language about something like how "I canz kick yo *** *****!" Don't like be called the N word? Stop acting like how people profile you then. I rarley meet a black guy on there who can not speak without swearing or threatining someone. And yes that goes for any white guy either.

As for someone who is gay there have been some nice gay people on there. But once again the majority whine and complain then once they do people pick on them. Or they get picked on from the start because they obviously sound gay I hate to be cruel but Live is not a place to be if your gay I guess. People are to stupid to just shut up and play without harrassing you. But once again like with some black people if your going to act like how people profile you then you deserve it.

Live is never going to work right when it comes to chat unless we have an actually usefull "report" system. The current one is junk. It takes forever for someone to get in trouble unless they do something extreme like use their cam to show us their junk. So until its fixed Live is a trashy mess thats needs work.

[QUOTE="MajorSport"]First time I've agreed with Adam Sessler in a long time...BigDaddyChacon

Me too. Normally I cannot stand Adam Sessler, but I completely agree with him. That's the main reason why I don't play multi-player games on XBL other than Uno.

Yeah with that game you dont have to worry so much about the bad language. You just got to worry about the full frontal male nudity from the cams lol

Based on my Wall of Shame (blog), it takes, on average, an exchange of three witty comments to shut someone up.

I would think it more useful to use the tools MS provides us:

  • Mute

VoodooHak

It would be great if it were easier to mute people. Muting should be a two-button process, at most. It should require a single button in the lobby, and bringing up the scores and one more button in game. In many games, it takes far more buttons to do that, usually requiring you to open up someone's Live profile, which takes you out of the action for 10 seconds or so. That doesn't sound like a lot, but in fast-paced games (every shooter), that's a long time.

I agree it should be easier. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't use it. As it is... it's 10 seconds. So the hard decision is there.... endure the annoyance, or mute them. And yet, that's not the only weapon in your arsenal to keep the smacktards at bay.

I think the best defense is to play with people you know. If you play with randoms... you are taking that risk.

Like I said, the unions here on Gamespot are a great place to look for people that play the way you like to play. Or you could go to Xbox.com or to the 1Up clubs or the dozens of groups out there with their own dedicated sites to get away from the garbage we're all complaining about here.

Muting players is simple on our end, but it doesn't actually stop these people from saying racist/etc. things. These people should be stopped, not just ignored.

Also, the complaint filing functions should have a more prominent role in matchmaking and have more severe consequences.

But then the complaint function would be abused more than it already is. People get reported all the time, simply for doing well in a game.

I totally agree with this. This is why i find it to be such a greater experiance playing with a clan. A clan is organized doesnt talk BS and is usually just friends. I unplug my mic otherwise.

It's not the 13-15 year olds. Those kids are usually pretty cool. It's usually the little 7-10 year old that talk that garbage. Also don't just say its the little white kids doing it. Little black kids usually call me whitey or cracker.

or..if people really wanted it to stop..they could go into the extreme by monitoring peoples voice chats and track down the people who do a lot of trash talking. that would take lots of man power but it could get it done. They could jsut tap into peoples games and listen.. or they could even tap into peoples voice chats who have gotten a lot of complaints..and then monitor them and if they slip up..ban them. I think its probably that simple

It would take lots of manpower, and thereby drive up the cost of Live. I'd rather just deal with the mute function, than pay more for Live. As far as monitorying peoples' chats, don't you think that's a little Big Brother-ish? Not to mention that privacy groups would be up in arms over it. In America, some people think it's a violation of their civil rights to be searched at an airport. There'd be a huge outcry if they found out Microsoft is monitoring peoples' private conversations.

They can address this themselves, but I don't think the point of those guys' posts was to poke fun at Live, rather than the annoying people who inhabit parts of it. As for muting everyone, that's a pain in the ***, since in many games, I have to go into each persons profile to do this.

In this aspect I think the Wii has an edge over all other gaming systems. It allows online play without all of the negative speach/namecalling/racial slurs/ etc that goes on in LIVE/PSN/in game lobbies. Its pathetic.

It's not just the "10 year olds" that participate in this sort of behavior. It's called anonymousness, the power to do as you please with no punishment. That alone doesn't explain why people do this. Maybe it's how we are desensitized to violence, and we say these kind of things with no particular understanding of what they really mean. Furthermore, you need to see the kind of games this happens in. Often it is in rated "Mature" games, which unknowingly, parents buy for their children without knowing what the contents are, or maybe they just don't care. I've never expected children to act this way, and maybe the blame lies on the parent for paying enough attention to what they buy their children. There are people who really are bigots, but what can we do to stop them, when there is no limits as to what they can say on Xbox Live? Perhaps Microsoft needs to develop stricter policies.

[QUOTE="GodLovesDead"]

Sessler?! Not sarcastic??? Where's the jokes?

EDIT: Anyways, it really isn't that much of a problem. I honestly haven't heard too many offensive things on Xbox Live, and if I do, I'm most likely the one to have started it. And I won't change my ways either. Sessler forgot the first rule of the internet...

MattUD1

Most of the crap I hear over XBL is crap against Americans... mostly by Brits... I wholeheartedly agree with him.

That happens to me a lot on Call of Duty 4 and Team Fortress. I can be on any side of that British against American war because I can just put on my Australian accent and be with the British
