The problem has not been fixed but it has been significantly reduced, and the chances of it failing are even less if you keep it well ventilated and don't allow it to overheat. Go on and buy an Xbox 360, you won't regret it. Even if it does fail, Microsoft wil repair it free of charge and the process should only take about 2 weeks.

If your main concern is the RROD, you can pretty much put your mind at rest with that- the latest Jasper chip is said to greatly reduce the chances of the RROD. Meaning, if you buy a new console (i.e. built in the last few months), you should be safe.

But it is worth mentioning, if you game on a PC, the PS3 may be a better choice for you- quite a lot of 360 'exclusives' are also available on the PC. Ofcourse not all of them though, such as Gears of War 2 and Halo 3. And like you said, the 360 is currently a lot cheaper to buy.

I only have a 360, and I'm pretty happy with that, but you know, whatever floats your boat.

Hope this helped.

The RROD has not been fixed, it's been reduced however if you happen to purchase a 360 with a Jasper chip in which reduces the chance of a overheat. If you want to buy a truely reliable console then go for the PS3. If your really into your gaming experience then I myself believe it's worth the risk to go for a 360 as it offers a superior all round experience.

I fully advise u to get a 360 as i have had mine for 2 and a half years. Mine has broken with the RROD but the new 360's coming out are way more reliable and you shouldnt have a problem. After playing the ps3 i found it uncomfortable and down right boring. The 360 has amazing games like gears of war which i am hooked on. I also had a ps2 and a ps1 but turned to 360. I have extremely enjoyed my xbox and have been amazed time after time with the graphics and new updates that are always coming in.

I have both, and overall I'm happier with my 360. I've had RROD, but MS is pretty good at turnaround for their service. Graphically, I can't tell much difference between the two. If you have Netflix, 360 is definitely a winner. I think I use the Netflix more than games lately... The other nice thing it downloading updates on 360 seems a lot quicker, and less often. It feels that every time I play a game on my PS3, I'm waiting 10 minutes for one update or another, I just want to play!! I'm not dissing PS3, I do enjoy the exclusives. MGS4, Little Big Planet, and Ratchet and Clank are great games. Don't forget the other GoW coming only to PS3:P And don't forget, you'll want a High Definition set for whichever console you decide to get. I had an old SDTV the first month or two I had 360. Sure they looked OK, but they really pop in HD. Same with PS3, I used the standard AV cables included, and it was meh. (Yes, PS3 only comes with standard AV cables...)

Ive delt with the rrod with 4 of my 360 consoles (bought, broke, sold off, etc). Sent away the 4th and repaired Jan 09 and its been working great. I believe theyve fixed it.

If you get the 3 flashing red lights, Microsoft will repair it for free, so don't let that stop you from buying a 360. The newer models out on store shelves have a far lower failure rate anyway.

But the PS3 isn't a truly reliable console. It breaks down too, not as much as the 360, but the PS3 still suffers from Bu-ray disk errors and the YLOD.

It's funny. I can still play my nes, snes, n64, and ps1 without any problems, yet old xbox and ps2 won't read disks any more, and my 360 has been sent off for repair 3 times already.

I remember when i got the rrod i had to send it in and i got a brand new xbox in 2 days so even if u do get the red rings, you may not need to wait long to get your xbox back.

well the issuses with the xbox is really just because of the heat but microsoft been fixxing that since it came out. with all the chip sets and that. when they came out it was a 30% change of junk. then new chip came mad it go 23%. then falcons came out and it drop to 13-16% (cant remember) then now jasper chip run's much cooler now 150w power all the others was 175w+ over 200. the problem with the falcon set wasthe cpu was changed to 65n but the gpu was still runing at 90mn but the jasper replced that with 65mn making the xbox run even cooler. get one.....

btw the red rings wont go no where because it just shows that your 360 has a problem and since this is not year 3000 everything will break and have way to tell u like the ps3 light changes when it's messed up

An easy way to overcome that is to purchase the console at Best Buy then when they ask if you want the two-year warranty say yes. Its like an additional $50 or so but thing is, you don't need to send it to Microsoft and wait for your console to come back; they will automatically replace it for you. If you have to replace the console you don't need to purchase another warranty. Also, when the warranty expires you can go ahead and purchase another one; so in all you'll be saving time and a bit of money.

They're both good consoles and I have a 360 but I would recommend the PS3. The 360 feels extremely fragile. It has good games but I don't know if it's worth all the trouble. I've already had to send my Xbox in once.

Why not just stick with the PC. Better online, better graphics, better games. What does the Xbox have that the PC doesn't?

Thanks a lot to everyone who took the time to read it and reply, I was expecting some war to go on that is off topic lol, which happens in all forums but thankfully not here, I am convinced now that the 360 will be the console for me even though I love the way killzone 2 looks :P. Thanks again oh and if you don't mind let me know what you think of this tv that I'm purchasing with it, it's a 32" 1080p is it worth me spending an extra 80 quid to go from 720p to 1080p on a 32" bare in mind I shall use it on my pc aswell. Thank you

On a 32", I don't think you'll see too much difference, but the 1080 is that much nicer :)

Mine has never suffered one, but then again there are those who have suffered from this problem. My best advice to you: stick with your gut.

Hello everyone thanks for taking the time to read my post,

I am usually a PC gamer but I am in the market for a console, I have researched back and forth to pick either the XBOX 360 or the Playstation 3. I have been told since I own a PSP and had owned a Playstation 2 previously that the Playstation 3 was the obvious choice, but a few things made me change my mind to pick the 360 including; online play, better games library, cheaper £300 for PS3 80gb and about £170 for Xbox 360 premium 60gb.

Then I read about the so called "Red Ring Of Death" that a lot of 360 users have suffered from. Reliability for me is a big issue I like things to last, so my question is, has this problem been fixed? Am I making a mistake purchasing a 360? Please share your opinions on this matter it would help me greatly. Thank you.

Best Regards

Osiris

yfzika

Definitely not a mistake. Yes, the MAJORITY of 360 owners have suffered hardware issues, but the overall result is the Xbox 360 is a gaming powerhouse. Xbox Live is incredibly fun, quick, well organized, and the game selection - The game selection is debatable with the PS2's for best-ever. You can't really go wrong. I have both the PS3 and Xbox 360, and I will say that if you choose the PS3, you're not making a bad choice at all, it's just the 360 is a bit of a better choice. Hope I helped.

I agree. I have a 32'' 720p in the basement and it has a great picture, but my 27'' 1080p blows it out of the water.

To me, people use the RRoD against me when i say i favour the Xbox, but technically the RRoD actually kinda helps, diagnosing what is wrong with the Xbox thou!

I have both and I prefer the PS3. The 360 is a good system but if you're buying it because it's cheaper, think again. After you add on 50 bucks a year for XBL, 100 bucks for the wireless adapter (which are all included in the PS3), it's no longer cheaper. I also prefer the exclusives for the PS3 (LBP, MGS4, Uncharted, KZ2) over those for the 360 (I just couldn't get into Halo 3 or Gears). However, it's up to you. I am enjoying Tales of Vesperia right now for the 360 (which will come out later this year for the PS3, a better version). Otherwise, all the games I'm playing for the 360 are multiplats.

Xbox live is realy good and 50 bucks a year isnt bad at all. I meen cheap cable costs 17 dollars a month and good cable is 100 dollars a month so x box live is like getting great cable for 5 bucks a month. wow I just went on a rant

Thats only in the US bub as far as I know, but anyways keep the system well vented, dust it off regularly and install most played games to the HDD to reduce wear and tear of your disc drive and make your system run cooler and you should be fine.

Nah, there's a 3 year warranty in the UK too, and both times I sent mine in, it took just under 2 weeks to get back.
