anyone else get free points today in their xbl accounts ?

Ive posted on the official forums as to why we got them, but ive received no response yet.

What is a littl worrying, someone has claimed to have rang them and even they dont know anything about it.

A few people have said its to do with gta 500 point codes but ive already used mine.

Wierd but im not complaining if its a legit. freebie.

OK this is weird - I went on live earlier and noticed my points were higher than I'd expected.

I live in the UK, so it's not just a US thing

Then click the link to Microsoft Points

My account shows 500 points were added yesterday (29/07/2008) which means it can't be linked to downloading Geo Wars 2, since that was only available from today (30th).

I did get 500MS points with a GTAIV preorder - and a lot of people found these expired a couple of months after being redeemed. Maybe this is MS refunding everyone that activated it with proper points, rather than ones that expire?

Weren't those offered as a retailer promotion though? I doubt MS would pick up the tab from the retailers mistake.

Yes it was a retailer promotion. Several stores offered 500MS points as an incentive to preorder GTAIV with them, but what they didn't say was that the points would expire (without warning) after 2 months if they hadn't been spent. This could be MS correcting it by giving everyone who redeemed the code their points back (even though many would have spent them and not lost them in the first place)

No. My gamertag is only 1 year old, and that Xbox Live is Five thing was a one-off, when xbox live turned five for those who had had a gamertag since the start.

I downloaded the demo of Geometry Wars 2 to see if that Summer event thing did indeed have something to do with it. I downloaded it approximately 2 hours ago. I'll go see if I got any Microsoft points.

I KNOW THE REASON - TRUTH!

Some people got screwed by the gtaiv free 500mp promotion thing and their points got erased. Yesturday microsoft gave everyone who has used a code 500 free microsoft points. Even if you put them on there and used them or just left the 500 points there and they didn't get deleted, microsft still gave you 500 fre msp for every promotional code for gta you put in.

I used one code and never used it(didn't get deleted either) and i recieved 500msp yesturday.

My friends used 4 codes, used them all and got 2000 yesturday for free.

Some other people have ben given 7000 free msp, all depending on how many codes for gta they put in.
