For the past few years I have noticed the decrease in long and challenging single player modes in games. Unless they have some incredible online multiplayer feature or unless they have the replability of a sports game I honestly do not feel that most of them merit a 60 dollar price tag.

85% of these games can be rented and beaten in a weeks time, for example my latest rental was The Darkness. I beat the entire game in less than 3 days. It was an ok game but im sorry I would have been upset if I had paid 65 dollars for it then beat the entire thing so fast with really no reason to replay it again. My question to you is Are games still worthy of spending 60 dollars on? Or is renting the right way to go?

I'd say the vast majority of new 360 games out there are rentals. It's rediculous to pay 60 bucks for a game you can beat in a week. I paid 16 bucks and and rented Transformers and Darkness. It's a good thing, too, because both are easily beatable in a week and I saved 104 bucks + tax. The only bad thing about renting is that you have nothing to show for it afterward.

I do alot of research on any game im interested in. If i like what i see, then i buy it. I dont buy used, and i dont rent. I just feel like i should really support my hobby of choice. I also like to go back to older games i havent played in awhile, which i can do anytime i want if i own it. I still play games like Conkers and Choplifter to this day.

None of those choices fit exactly. I just play demos, read reviews, etc. before deciding whether to buy or not. I don't rent much and don't have gamefly but that may change.

Most of the 360 games I own got score's of 8.0 or above and when I buy a game I try get ones that I know I'm going to be playing for more than a week. I'll rent stuff if I just want to check it out and I know I'd never pay $60 for it.

To be honest, I NEVER buy games based on what score they get. I may look at what they actually say in the review, but numbers are meaningless. If it's something I like, I'll get it regardless of many of the comments, too :)

Yeah, i think the price is justified. Sure, single player may be a bit short, but you are getting a nver-ending multiplayer experience that was not available in games before. I usually know what I'm getting before I buy a game.

I hardly ever rent games. I don't have all the time in the world dedicated to gaming, so I take my time to beat games. It might take you a week to beat a game, but you're playing alot more than I am. Plus, I like having the games on the shelf. Alot of the time I buy games and don't even play them right away, I pick them up on a rainy day type deal.

Absolutley. For me, almost all of the games I own I'm always tempted to play them over (or play a specific mode in the game, etc.) so its really convenient that I can use them whenever.

Although, I can see the problem with buying a 60 game for something like Shrek or Meet the Robinsons (SOLUTION: Never play them)

I rented The Darkness on a Sunday. I played for maybe 2 hours on Sunday. I work 3pm-11pm everyday and go to college before I go to work and I still managed to beat The Darkness in 3 days.

ive only bought 4 360 games since i got mine at christmas: gears, cod 3, guitar hero 2,and nba 2k7. as u can see, i really only buy mp heavy games, except gh2, but that games mp is really good as well.

edit: also, i paid only 50 for gears, 80 for gh2 (friend gets a discount i used), and 30 a piece for the other 2. i dont think theres really any sp only game out there worth $60 until mass effect is released.

The developer makes NO money from a used game. Thats all gamestore profit. And i dont care about the store i get it from. I care about the people that actually MAKE the game.

It may sound sad but im a HUGE gaming collector, and I love to see my shelf fill up with more games. So really if theres a game out there that I like the look of (reviews also play a small part) then considering if I have the money then I wouldnt hesistate to go for the purchase. However to save money I do tend to buy Used games.

So you are saying your spend 60 dollars on a game only so it will go to the developers of the game? Man you seriously need to find something better to do with your money....

No, what im saying, if you read my post, is that if im going to buy the game anyway, ill spend the extra $5 for a new copy where the money goes to the people that made it, rather than save $5 and have it all go to the people that sell it.

when I really want a game, I get it, no matter the price, no matter the score, for eapmple, I got Tomb Raider Legend, I knew it was a short game, without multiplayer, but I still paid 60 bucks for it because I wanted it. So, if I want a game regardless of a lame multiplayer or sp, if I want it, I'll get it :)

Halo 3 and Burnout Paradise are on pre-order, I'll be renting:

Bioshock, Darkness, Assassins Creed, and others because they do not include multiplayer that will be worth the money.

I research too, and never buy based on previews or hype. I keep the ones I think are classic, and trade the rest. I also like to collect the strat guides that go with the game. Sometimes I like the guides better than the game (Lost Planet, for example).

i buy games. sometimes i buy them after a price drop sometimes used, and sometimes day 1. when you rent and your times is up you have nothing left to show for your money. buying with those buy 2 used get 1 free can build a library quickly. forza1 was worth the price day 1, so were oblivion and cod2. people are still playing halo2 so i would say that game was well worth the money.

I can get most of them by renting, especially if its a single player game. And I don't care about gamerscore anymore. I did last year.

the developer's will make money. people that sell used games have to be game buyers, that means the money they get from selling a game is probably going to be spent on another game, meaning the developer got the money from the game he is selling, and the game is is going to buy. the person that buys the used game may not have bought the game at all if not for the lesser price. they may love the game and decide to buy their newx game while it's hot, before there are used copies for sale. what do you think happens with rental copies? they get sold as used. many rentals are for achievment points, meaning that if it weren't for rentals the game would lose money. when publishers lose money that is less money they can advance developers to make other games. remember sony pattented a way to make it impossible to play used or rented games. how many times has it been used? thats because developers know that indirectly the used and rental markets do make them more money. and it spreads the money out, meaning you dont need that super hit every time to stay in business. that you can recover from a mistake.

If a game is worth buying just matters if you think its good enough, for instance I think Im going to buy NCAA Football 08 this year because I know im gonna play dynasty mode alot and play people on xbl and my friends so I know im gonna play it more than a few times and more then 1 week so im gonna buy it. Same with games like Oblivion, halo3, gta4, UT3, CoD4, Assassins Creed, and Mass Effect. assassins creed might actually be a little iffy considering i dont know if it will actually be good or not because not a whole lot has been said but looking at the game in action it looks pretty good and I think its single player will be worth while and it looks like a game i would play through more than once because sneaking up on people all stealth ninja like that and slitting their throats just looks awesome. But a game like the darkness did not really interest me that much in the first place and reading and watching the review and all the gameplay and rants about it, it looked like a game that if anything I should rent. So pretty much big games that are good that will keep you coming back for more, which online multiplayer helps, are worth buying and it matters how much you are interested in that franchise whether its new or old.

I own shadowrun and thats where i disagree with u, that game is so fun. If u dont like it cause no one gets Rez, than u truly r just not good at the game. The game is more about strategy, so if u neeed somone to rez u everytime than it means your not playing the game right. Its not a run and gun, its a strategic game

Notice i didnt say anything about rentals? Thats because like movie studios, they have contracts, and everyone makes money. This isnt the same as buying and selling used games. As for the "game buyers", Everyone i know that trades games in, buys used games in the first place. So tradeing a used game for another used game still doesnt make the developer any money. Youre assuming that someone bought a game new, trades it in, then uses that money towards another new game. When most people, buy used, trade it in down the road, and use that to buy another used game.

ya man i know the game is all about team work and stuff wich is the reason i bought it but sometimes im the last one standing and rez like 2 people and im not the best at the game so if i die then they start to die and the game ends. i rather have something else were you have respwawns. and get to come back. i mean its not terrible its just wasnt my type. if u dont know what to do u can really get frusterated!!!!!
