My understanding was that the RROD was caused by the way the chips were soldered in. The chips were soldered near the center so when the system would heat up, the expansion of the material would cause the chip to unseat itself. I was told that they now solder them around the edges as well to help prevent this.
I'd have to say so. From talking with most people on Xlive it seems that most of the RROD issues have been worked out and are not as common. From everything I have read and from getting my own impression from everyone I talk to on Live is that the failure rate has been dramatically lowered. I wouldn't worry about it anyway, chances of system failure now a days on new systems are slim and plus you get an automatic 3yr warranty so even if it does your covered.

Amen Mike. I can't beleive the nerve of some people.... I don't know what makes John think that he is the all knowing god of forums and that all questions and topics should be ran by him before being considered valid or worthwhile but obviously if there are many other posts of this nature than it is obviously something worth talking about.
I'm thinking of buying a 360, so Pro would be the best one to get then? Also are the games region free? I'm asking cause I might be moving to another country next year so wanna know if I can buy games there for my machine.
The new ones seem to be doing a pretty good job!me and my friend got the new pros with the hdmi output and they dont heat up as much as the old ones! and is it me or those the new onesseem to have more air holes on them??
Yeah but you shouldn't worry about it. Just make sure your Xbox 360 is on a hard flat surface (mine is on a wooden surface) where the vents are not blocked. Keep the room temperature at a reasonable level (not cold, not hot) and make sure the sun isn't bombing on your Xbox from a window.
Shouldn't have any problems. Besides...when you buy it, you register over the phone with Microsoft and you're covered. Nothing to worry about.
