would definately give them a shot so long as my xbox live gold subscription is the only fees i pay. to have to pay for my live AND a subscription to a game would be waay to much
unless its a GTA MMO with gangs and stuff (i say thugs vs police or thugs vs police vs citizens) or a MMO CoD (think a neverending BF 1942) i would pay, but the fee would have to be super low.
WoW wouldn't transition well to the 360 due to complex controls and what not. However it would be nice to have some sort of MMORPG on the 360 (besides FFXI). I would definitely give it a try. MMO's tend to work a whole lot better on computers too.Ghost_702
I don't understand the resistance to making a keyboard and mouse for the 360. It would open up so many other gaming opportunities for MMOs and RTS games. The console is basically a PC in disguise anyway.
MMO's are for computersToriko42
They are now, but what's preventing them from making the tranisition to consoles? They're a big business and they'd totally generate hardware sales. Hell, I'd rather pay $400 on a console than spend the same to upgrade my computer.

Well they should let you plug your keyboard into your console then[QUOTE="Mabooza"] Well they should let you plug your keyboard into your console then
Most MMO's have interfaces and commands designed for the keyboard.

I couldn't agree more. But really, isn't that the only thing holding MMOs (and RTS games) back on consoles? Well at least on the user side. I think another possible bottleneck is infrastructure. I'm sure Microsoft wouldn't want to maintain a massive server farm. But at the same time I'm sure they'd want to exert some sort of control over such a game running through Live.
I plan on playing Conan: Hyborian Adventures this fall. The way they've set up the structure should work well for consoles. It looks like you'll be able to sink quite a bit of time into it before you have to commit to paying an online fee. If you don't like it before you get to that point then you can just quit playing. Huxley is another title which may change the way MMOs are looked at. Its a FPS in an MMO world. It should be interesting to see how it works in the end.
I don't know why console devs wouldn't want to try and tap into the MMO world.
Again, I have never played one. Do you really need that many controls to play effectively?teletran0n3
meh, i played wow (i'm taking a break) it had 8 bottons and 4 scrolling bars an additional bottons above it. some classes have more abilites then others.
i would play a mmo on 360 only if it was something new and no fees. but i don't think microsoft wants to make servers for it because $$$. i think they can do something with the messenger kit (keyboard) but i don't have it so idk if the bottons would be big enough.

Problem is people would assume their measily $50 gold account would be sufficient for one of them. Fact is, developers/publishers don't see that money. Microsoft keeps that money to run their own servers, so if one was made it would be forced to charge you at *least* $10/month (most likely they'd go with the standard $15) in subscription fees. Although I supposed it wouldn't be any worse than paying for maps/skins/simple mods....
The next problem would be Microsoft has standards set for 360 games. One of them is that every single game made for the 360 must be playable on any system they sell, which includes the core systems that don't have the hard drives. Any decent MMO is patched on a regular basis, including new content that makes the subscribers feel as though their getting their moneys worth. Even without the new content, there needs to be bug fixes (MASSIVE amounts for MMOs obviously) and tweaks to classes to balance them once in awhile. The 512MB memory card just wouldn't cut it.
Lastly, MMOs tend to take ALOT of time to get anywhere. Even the simpliest forms of them such as World of Warcraft would require a player to be willing to sit down and grind for hours without any sense of accomplishment. Most MMORPGs will have quests and raids that will require the player to be prepared to play a 4+hr to get the rewards that come from them. Most console players want to be able to sit back, play a game for 30 minutes after work and have the feeling they accomplished something. I don't think too many would enjoy spending 30 minutes getting a nice group together to do some quests and then have to leave shortly after.
I don't even feel like getting into the control situation. Overall MMOs belong on PCs. To put it simply, console only gamers are not ready for these types of games yet. Hell console only gamers are still getting used to the idea of online games. PC gamers have had online games for over two decades now. The next gen consoles (X-Box 3, PS4) will no doubt be packed with MMOs.
Don't take this as a flame against the consoles. I believe they obviously have a huge space in the gaming world..... I wouldn't play a sports for fighting game on the PC and I wouldn't play an MMO or RTS on a console. Just my 2cents.
Wether you like it or not there coming, 2008/09 is gonna be for MMO's on 360.

I know I read about a few more but can't remember them now. The first 3 listed above all have great potential gonna be hard to decide which one I want to play. I'm wondering how there gonna work voice chat too. And I'm pretty sure all of them will have a sub fee of $10 - $15.
this just out

I would LOVE to see a mmorpg on the 360!
Coming from someone who played/plays runescape
and doesn't feel like upgrading the computer for WoW,
then I'm all for it. I really like mmorpg's, but have been held back by
not having top notch computer upgrades.
I mean, my computer is FAST, just not hi-tech
and i wouldnt mind paying about 5 bucks a month for an mmorpg membership anyways.
i mean it does cost money to keep the servers up..
well you just named 2 that are planned for the 360 but i honestly dont see them comming out this generation i honestly believe it will be on the next "new" gen consoles... and that is APB which is the GTA like game mmo.... and Huxley which is the MMOFPS/RPG. like battlefield meets halo, meets unreal meets an rpg, and massive levels and massive amounts of people in them.would definately give them a shot so long as my xbox live gold subscription is the only fees i pay. to have to pay for my live AND a subscription to a game would be waay to much

I would definitely play MMPORGS on my 360. Not sure how well it would work tho, as the controls wouldnt be as in depth as PC ones are.
Played WOW for a month or so and really enjoyed it. If they did produce MMPORGS for the 360 they would have to make sure there is no monthly subscription charge as that would just be ridiculous.

I think the controls could be worked out. It would be a challenge though due to the number of hotbars you can have is WoW and the limited buttons on the 360 controller. OR... MS could just allow kb/m support for its games. I like that idea better.
