They make me play my Xbox more than my PS3, after I beat a PS3 game im like "eh, that was fun, but no reason to go back."
Not at all. In fact, I find the concept kind of awful. Seriously, if worthless, imaginary points on an internet profile are providing you with incentive to play games... might want to rethink some things. This is like posting on GS just to boost your user level or something. Some developers can do fun things with achievements, but nothing that couldn't be rewarded without the system in place, or it being tied to the "gamerscore" system. I know, maybe I'm just remembering Ye Olden Tymes when people played games because they were fun or made up challenges because they were hard.Adramelech-
Yes, but most people aren't playing the games exclusively for the achievements. People are still buying/playing the games they like, it's just that the achievements add bragging rights and replay value. I donno, that's how I see it at least.
I'm not obsessed with them, but some of them are kinda fun to shoot for. Adds an extra little somthing to the game to keep me playing a little longer.
Most people just used xsata or xecuters hard drive kit to just copy gamesaves to the hard drives without actually doing any of the work themselves to get the achievement. From this, achievements are garbage to brag about.
Dashboard updates make this more difficult to do now, but a little too late, damage is done. well not damage, but any validity of the scores. completely meaningless. it's harder to backup gamesaves for some games because of the cheaters and microsofts crap dashboard updates. I heard they got sued from something regarding those updates.
When I first got the 360 I was obsessed, yes. I didn't go out and buy all the best games for achievements such as King Kong and stuff but one of my main intentions was to get the achievements. I just began to feel it was ruining the game experience and I began to just play the games for the achievements.
Now, I rarely play on my 360 (partly because of the achievements thing, and partly because of the fact I don't have very many games) and have basically given up on achievements.
I'm not obsessed with them, but they actually motivate me to finish 100% the games. Demokkwow i agree and coincedently we have the same gamer pic and pretty close names :D
[QUOTE="NismoNissan41"]THe achievements help to filter out the loosers and the people with lives. I when Hapo 3 comes out they should have the online seprate people unders 2000 points and put them in game rooms so they can play casual and have fun. I hve a had xbox 360 since laucnh and all I have is a little over 1000 points. SB992
Um, that's what gamer zones are for.
The only time I've ever been obsessed with achievements is Dead Rising. Everything else, I just get what I've done.
I agree on that (but also on Gow)
Acheivements rule! I usually play through a game on it's easy difficulty and then play through it on harder difficulties to get more fun out of it, but before I had achievements, I'd sometimes not do it because it wasn't worth it. Now, I'm trying to beat Call of Duty 2 on Veteran and it's worth it because my GamerScore goes up 80 points when I beat a campaign segment. I can't see why anybody wouldn't care about achievements, it's part of what makes Xbox Live fun!

I agree, it does add to the Xbox Live experience!
