Are you supposed to buy 2010 sports games in 2009?

I got tiger woods 09 but 2010 already came out. Does that mean I should still play it and support it till 2010 then buy tiger woods 2010?Since its 2009 does that mean 2009 sports games are still not outdated? I dont get why the make 2010 sports games in the middle of 2009.

the name is one year ahead

2009 game is called 2010

2005 game is called 2006

the only that doesn't do it is mlb the show. they have the same year!!! mlb 09 the show is an 09 game.
