My parents would woop my a$$ if i brought home grand theft auto and i love that my parents care about me but they also have to understand that im not weak minded and wont go out sniping people!wiiman78Well why don't you talk to them. Just explain to them that you appreciate that they care, but you're not trying to eliminate your enemies in real life, only in the polygonal world.
Ive played mortal kombat at the age of 5 by my uncles house behind my moms' bak and gta at the age of 8 at my uncles' house also and mymom never knew!wiiman78Well then, you're a dirty liar and she is totally justified in not trusting you. JK!
I'm about to become a parent and I'm totally excited about getting my kid into the gaming world. I've never thought about what I would let my kids play until I found out I'm having them. I have Gears, and it's definitely not something I would let a young kid play, but it totally depends on the kid's maturity level, not strictly the age. I grew up watching violent and scary movies from quite young and I turned out fine, so it's totally a judgement call. When your parents were kids, they didn't have the kinds of games that are out now, so they're not used to it....It will be a whole new thing for our kids...
I think though that at 14 or older (depending on maturity) if a kid wants to get Gears, that's fine. I've heard of people not letting their 16 year olds get a violent game....and that sounds ridiculous to me...but at the same time, I don't know what the kid is like.
For instance, I remember when I was younger and Power Rangers was popular. I used to love that show and loved pretending to be them. I heard a story on the news about some other young boys who were playing power rangers on the playground and kicked a girl to death!!! Same aged kids as me, but I didn't kill anyone....
I feel you man, its a whole new ballgame when you're in the position of the parent. But I agree, its totally dependant on the type of person the kid is. If he constantly plays with fire and likes to rip the wings off of house flies, then you gotta evaluate the possible impact of this kid shooting the heads off of locusts.I'm about to become a parent and I'm totally excited about getting my kid into the gaming world. Bulova
Yea i remember playing as the blue ranger but i dident go out grab a gun say it was a lazer beam and shot my cousin!!wiiman78But there were times when you wanted to......don't lie.
It's good that your parents care just explain that you won't go out andchainsaw somebody in half because they looked at you funny. I had to explain that to my mom before i got GTA. She let me have halo 2 and other m rated games but gta was a NO NO i explained to her and now i buy whatever i want. she just has to come in the store with me
How old are you? If you under 17 then you shouldn't be allowed to play M rated games no matter what (unless you had to)...Cedmlnso your saying that mature smart 13-16 year olds shouldn't be able to play good games because of the m rated label. What made you come to that conclusion?
my parents were a bit like that at first. I wwnt to a friends house once and played halo and my mom freaked when she found out i played an M game, over time though they kinda calmed down about it so i can get most M games (no GTA or anything)hpo3579
I'm glad you can separate reality from make believe, Peter Pan. Unfortunately some sickos out there can't, so its normal for a parent to be slightly apprehensive at their son/daughter buying a game like Gears. I'm a gamer and laugh in the face of arguments that videogames add to social violence, but when I really sit down and think about how I would treat these games as a parent, I'm not so sure I would let a young child play some of these games...but I also wouldn't want them to miss out on the sweetness. Its a tough spot, just realize that they aren't doing it to be jerks, they just care.lockjaw333
This is true. Especially with all the negative media surrounding violent games, some parents take an absurd position on the issue.

Well I am now 16 1/2 so now they dont care at all but they never really did care in the first place, I played RE2 when I was 8 years old and other games like that, the only one she did not like me playing was mortal kombat but that was because that was all over the news, but of course I did not even like the game anyways because its one of the worse fighting games ever made.acidic_dude
