HD-DVD is obviously not selling and Blu-Ray is. So I don't see how Warner Bros. would be losing a lot money if they are exclusive to Blu-Ray.76ers
Not everyone has made the transition from DVD to HD DVD/Blu Ray.

That's not the point. The point is that Warner Bros will make more money from Blu-Ray and not HD-DVD.

I think the TC was getting at DVD vs. HD DVD/Blu Ray. How successful is blu ray? Is this really a wise choice by WB?

Well, if you have been reading the news lately, then you would have known that Warner Bros will discontinue their support for HD-DVD to release on Blu-Ray exclusivley. Here is GameSpot's article. So, the point is that Warner Bros will make more money with Blu-Ray and not HD-DVD.

Yeah. WB ditched HD-DVD.

NNNNNOOOOO!!!! now i have to buy a PS3, this sucks, i was hoping HD-DVD wouldnt lose big names like this, o well
All the companies that choose sides, example WB going to Bluray always release the normal DVD's as well. I doubt they'll just cut normal DVD's off as well. You know how much money they'd lose if they did that?
All it means is that Bluray/Normal DVD, but no HD. If microsoft woudl of included the HD built in with the 360 this probably wouldn't be happening
From what I read it said they are EXLUSIVE to blu ray

I just want this stupid war to be over so I can start buying HD Movies. I Refuse to buy any until there is 1 clear winner that releases EVERYTHING on 1 format. This is why I refuse to buy a HD-DVD player or a Blueray player.
However I do have a PS3 so Technically I do have Blueray......Guess I should be Renting my movies for that lol but I still havn't yet.
but until there is 1 clear winner I will not buy any HD movies. Im not throwing my money away incase said side loses and I have a bunch of paperweights laying around.

Exactly what I'm thinking. Don't know how many of you were around when VHS and Betamax were competing video tape formats, and if you haven't heard of Betamax, well, it's'cause it ain't around anymore. And either HD-DVD or Blu-Ray will be joining it eventually.
Hopefully the victor will be decided soon, b/c I just got a new HDTV :D
Two things, Blu-Ray is actually doing good a lot of companies are siding with it because of its specs and second it's called the Dark Knight.Strife88
Two more things you do know that most companies have sided with Blu-Ray so Warner going over too isn't that much of a surprise and the second its going to come out on regular DVD as well so you can either buy it on DVD or Blu-Ray and I guess you think that they are only releasing it on Blu-Ray and not Standard DVD but thats not the case if they did that they're profits would't even be a quarter of what they could have had because most people don't even own a HD player yet.

well thats why companies are pushing consumers to buy more HD players so they are not failing and not losing their investments

I think hes just laughing at the title Batman Begins 2 because it sounds really stupid you know beginning twice and what not and most people know its going to be called The Dark Knight.
I think the whole idea of putting faith into either format is stupid. While I have the HD-DVD add-on, I recognize it is only a short-term joy. Pretty soon we will all be watching movies in Hi-Def without having to utilize a disk of any kind. sro2688
wow, my thoughts exactly. i mean look at computers now having solid state harddrives (no disk/moving parts/more reliable). im guessing that is going to be the next big thing. everyone is just going to have to catch on. soon itll all be stored and retrieved on some type of memory.
I hope both Hi def formats just go away and there end up being lots of sites where we can just download our Hi Def movies. It would be cheaper too because we don't have to pay for packaging or the disc. arfy2In most countries you cant even download 50gigs a month let alone whenever you feel like it. Its simply not viable, which is why the disk formats exist.

So true. It will all be downloadable which saves us all cash, to a certain extent..

You do know the Hi-Def moves are like 5 gigs at the most, right? The rest of the "gigs" being used on the HD-DVD or bluray is all content that no one even cares about.

No u wont MS isnt tied to HD-DVD like sony is to Blu-Ray so if MS really wanted to they could Release a Blu-Ray drive for the Xbox
This IS the sole reason I DONT LIKE BLU RAY. I cant wait until blu ray becomes the standard and then everyone starts complaining about how they wish they could back up their movies and do other things like put them on personal media devices. But YOU WONT BE ABLE TO. SONY IS A **** COMPANY WHO IS TRYING TO FORCE ITS DRM (digital rights management) BULL**** INTO EVERY CORNER OF THE ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY. Its been one thing after another most recently: HDMI and NOW BLU RAY. THIS IS BAD FOR US CONSUMERS but noone will realize it until its too late.
Advanced Access Content System (AACS) is a standard for content distribution and digital rights management. It is developed by AACS Licensing Administrator, LLC (AACS LA), a consortium that includes Disney, Intel, Microsoft, Matsu****a (Panasonic), Warner Bros., IBM, Toshiba and Sony.
Since appearing in devices in 2006, several successful attacks have been made on the format. The first known attack relied on the trusted client problem. In addition, decryption keys have been extracted from a weakly protected player (WinDVD). However, even though some AACS cryptographic keys have been compromised, new releases will use new, uncompromised keys.[citation needed]
BD+ was developed by Cryptography Research Inc. and is based on their concept of Self-Protecting Digital Content.[54] BD+ is effectively a small virtual machine embedded in authorized players. It allows content providers to include executable programs on Blu-ray Discs. Such programs can:[52]
If a playback device manufacturer finds that its devices have been hacked, it can potentially release BD+-code that detects and circumvents the vulnerability. These programs can then be included in all new content releases.
The specifications of the BD+ virtual machine are only available to licensed device manufacturers. A list of licensed adopters is available from the BD+ website.
BD+ was made available for content publishers in June 2007.[55] The first titles using BD+ were released in October the same year. Several players had problems playing back those titles.[56] BD+ has been circumvented by the developers of the program AnyDVD as of version 6.1.9.6 beta.[57]
BD-ROM Mark is a small amount of cryptographical data that is stored physically differently from normal Blu-ray Disc data. Bit-by-bit copies that do not replicate the BD-ROM Mark are impossible to decode. A specially licensed piece of hardware is required to insert the ROM-mark into the media during replication. Through licensing of the special hardware element, the BDA believes that it can eliminate the possibility of mass producing BD-ROMs without authorization.
When the first AACS keys were leaked, some Blu-ray titles became available on file-sharing networks. There is also a commercial PC software player (AnyDVD HD) that allowed users to watch Blu-ray Disc movies on non-HDCP compliant PC hardware or copy them.

Come on now. IT ain't that bad. The PS3 is a great system with great games.I know this does not really have something to do with the 360 but, I just read somthing saying by may of this year Warner Brothers movies are going to only release on blu-ray.................wtf, so, for example........When Batman Begins 2 comes out, I wont be able to watch it if I dont have a blu-ray...............Warner has to of lost there minds or somthing, they will lose alot of moneyGabrialTehallYou'll be able to watch it, just not in HD, it'll come out on standard DVD.

I know I haven't. I think both Blu Ray and HD-DVD are complete nonsense.
The Format war is total nonsense. but its here and one side will win and I will refuse to buy movies until one wins.
I watch movies in HD on the Movie Network and yea they look WAY BETTER, but Thats Free, I will not buy a Blueray Disc or HD DVD until there is only 1.
Its just a Money War for the 2 Companies and I refuse to get stuck in the middle.
Besides having one universal format, why exactly do people back blu-ray. HD-DVD and Blu-ray look the same in picture quality. HD-DVD is region code free and Blu-ray is not. Blu-ray has stronger drm which means its harder to copy disks.
People seem to have alot more problems with blu-ray disks not playing because of all the different firmware and ethenet not being standard on all blu-ray players(check the amazon reviews and forums if you don't believe me.
The only thing that blu-ray really has over hd-dvd is the space on the disk which is negligible when talking about picture quality and cooler sounding name.
