[QUOTE="elpooz"][QUOTE="firefox59"] See I wouldn't have said what I did if I didn't have experience with other launch titles. I bought Reach and MW2 and played them the night of their release and never had a problem with either. Not a single problem. When I get kicked six matches in a row with Battlefield I just get sick of it and stop playing. Gears 3 had a beta for a reason, so that they wouldn't have server problems. The shouldn't have and didn't, just like Battlefield shouldn't. Brink is the only other game, like you mentioned, that I have had problems with. But that was more so matchmaking and I never got kicked from a game. I'm just saying I don't think a game like this (EA's huge important title) should have these problems.firefox59
EA only spends so much money on server space before launch. They wait until they see how many people are actually playing at once, on average, and then spend however much more they need to on their servers to make sure everyone has a smooth experience with the MP. If they were to buy too much server space pre-launch, they'd be wasting money. It's stingy on their part, but also smart, and they are a business after all.
Gears didn't sell like BF3 is and didn't have nearly as many people playing online in the first week as BF3 does right now, so it had much less server stress, and they probably had more than enough servers ready pre-launch because they expected to not have a CoD-size or BF-size community. BF3 has hundreds of thousands online at once right now, Gears had maybe 100,000, if that, at launch.
And I know tons of people that could barely play the last two CoD titles around launch, even alone. MW2 had one of the worst launches I've honestly ever seen, and that was without dedicated servers. In comparison, BF3 and EA are handling this launch pretty well...
Waiting a week or two for the game's servers to stabilize isn't a problem at all imo.
Well I'm not here to argue numbers but Gears sold 3 million the first week so I'd think more than 100K would be on. I completely understand their business strategy, however that hasn't been the problem. Yeah the servers were down but that was only for a couple hours. The problem for me has been getting kicked from games and non of what you have accomplished being saved. I played for two hours the other day and didn't register a exp. point. I'll admit I don't know everything about servers but does the amount of server space affect games that have already found a server and are already in progress? Cause that was the problem. Again it's not THAT big of a deal, its just that other games don't seem to be having this problem. You getting kicked from games or not being able to get in them is probably a result of you connecting to far off servers because there aren't enough in close proximity to you yet. You could also be getting kicked from games because the servers are just plain crashing due to server stress. There have been a bunch of times where they've gone down and kicked everyone playing the game at once. I haven't had the game not save my xp when I get booted from a game yet, it's been pretty good about constantly saving my stats so far.
You might want to go to Server Browser, then to filter and change the region the browser is searching for to whichever is closest to you. My browser was set on Europe at first and since I've changed it to East US, I've encountered a lot less lag. Server Browser is also much more reliable way to get into games as well, because Quick Match is still messed up right now.
Like I said, there are PLENTY of titles that have had horrible/rough launches. In comparison to most, BF3's launch isn't even that bad. I don't think that bad launches should be a normal thing for big titles, but it's just the way things work I guess. I'd rather have them have 2 weeks of iffy servers and then months of quick matchmaking, no lag, and perfect hit detection. Black Ops and MW2 might not have had a rough a launch as this for a lot of people but those games are riddled with lag, bad hit detection and games/lobbies closing a little too often. BF3, like BC2, won't have those issues for the vast majority of it's lifespan, so 2 weeks of iffy servers is more than worth it...
