You can enjoy both games, but that doesn't mean you can't critisize the developers. MW3 is going to be fun, but you can't deny that this is a complete profit generator. Sequels are supposed to be similar (if the original was good), and I think alot of gaming companies are learning from the Halo3 -> Reach transition. However it's completely clear that MW3 doesn't qualify as a sequel. It's insulting how little is changing with this game and selling for the price of a sequel (heard rumors it might even be $70).

The fact is, Tryarch and Infinity Ward are using the "Madden tactic". NFL Madden games have a new iteration every year, with basically the exact same game. However, they can do this because THE GOD DAMN LEAGUE CHANGES! There is no significant factor that requires MW3 to be released other than overstaffing of the developer companies.

Last I looked MW3 is continuing and picking up where MW2 left off. Doesnt that qualify it as a sequel?

The Modern Warfare series seems to me as though it has a very good story-line in the campaigns; however, the multiplayer doesn't seem to be too interesting. Battlefield 3 (based off the beta) has a very good multiplayer. Multiplayer seems to always trump campaign in most first-person shooters, so I suggest you go with Battlefield 3. In addition, it'll last longer than MW3.

Neither for me. The BF3 beta turned me off (even though I know they're fixing everything in the full game), and I don't really care for CoD.

Well I don't pay $60 for a campaign. I dont know about anyone else but the only justification I have for buying a game is the multiplayer.

In my opinion I would go with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 for a few reasons. 1. In Battlefield once you unlock all the weapons, attachments, vehicle upgrades, which all may take a while that is it. You can't redo it, I enjoy striving for unlocking new item rather than sitting will a lot of weapons in my inventory. 2. In Battlefield there has been a lot of spawn killing with enemy sniper, this is not with every map in the game but it does happen a lot, and the only hope is for you or one of your squad mate manage to get out, by the time you would spawn with the squad member there might be one or two enemies waiting for you to run around the corner. In Call of Duty, I think spawning could be a little better because I have spawned in a room where a enemy threw a grenade or is running just around the corner, very rare occasion do it spawn down their sights. 3. "Special vehicles" in a match could make or break the match. It can make it if EVERYONE can agree on who takes what that will help the team. Break it if there is team killing just so they can have the vehicle, or don't know how to use it and crash 10 seconds late. Enemy team races towards your special vehicle and spawn kills until they can take your vehicle. Once again this is my opinion I might get both because I enjoy any type of shooters that have great online experience. I just think I might wait till MW3 comes out first before getting BF3 mostly because of money and might also get Skyrim.

I believe they had a Hardcore mode on it, if not friendlies would try to shoot it with their rockets for damaging it or warn the enemy.

Not sure where you guys get your information, but MW3 is a completely diffrent game than any other CoD ever released.

k2theswiss

other how is that? few minor changes =mw3. new MP maps, new SP, most likely 80% of the guns is the same. same game engine, same game franchise, same game elements, same same same.

I'm a Cod fan but I gotta admit ..its going to be the same same same..ill get itprobably after a year or so when the price drops down :P.. waiting to see the reviews of BF3.

Spawn killing, team killing, and campers, sounds more like CoD to me. The fact is that CoD has horrible spawn system, add that to several OP guns and non-linear maps (and corner campy btw) and it makes a very unfinished feeling game. Kill streaks are a horrible idea, it makes the rich get richer, if you want a good kill streak in CoD, all you have to do is get air support and camp in a building. The damage system is horrid, it takes 2 shots to kill someone (give or take) and it makes people who have the faster twitch come out on top against better players. Since we are talking about MW3, I want to also talk about how MW2 turned out, silencers not silencing, misaligned iron sights, recoiless assault rifles, OMA danger close noob tubes, and your going to buy MW3? IW does not care about their games or support them at all. It took Dice a few weeks to realize that the M60+magnum ammo might be a little too strong, IW NEVER realized that the Scar, Tar, ACR, noob tubes are way out of balance. You are clearly just overlooking CoD problems because you are a fanboy of the series.

QFT. He basically listed issues with CoD as issues with BF.

Yeah, I assume you mean Modern Warfare 3 ;). But many of the people in this thread seem to hate CoD3, and I loved it! it's actually one of my favourites! :P. But out of Battlefield 3 and Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3, it all just depends on how you prefer your shooters. More difficult, tactical and squadbased with big maps and a slower, more realistic approach to the gameplay as in Battlefield 3, or faster paced, run and gun, shorter matches and smaller maps with not much chance of working as a team as in CoD:MW3? Personally, I am going to get both. I am thinking about getting Battlefield 3 on release (I also want the Battlefield 2 pre-order stuff) and Modern Warfare 3 I will be getting for Christmas. Why not try the same? :). MW3 also comes out later than BF3, if that impacts your decision as well.

Hmmmmmmmmm, Call of Duty 3 is a old game, thats cheap these days, while Battlefield 3 is a new game. I'm not into Battlefield so I'm going to say Call of Duty 3. I had a lot of fun playing that game, though the Community might not be as active as it was before. However, if its Modern Warfare 3, forget that, its the same as the other games. I say neither.

Honestly, I have played both of the series' games from day one. I played the original Call of Duty, United Offensive, CoD2, CoD4, MW2, World at War and Black Ops. I loved CoD2, as you can see in my xfire hours, CoD4 was also a good game, but after that, the CoD series turned to garbage I played Battlefield 1942, 2142, BF2, Bad Company 2 and I will purchase BF3 and not MW3. Overall, Battlefield is just such a better game than CoD in every single way. I'm not a one sided fanboy of a series I have played both and I can tell you that Battlefield 3 will be much better than Modern Warfare 3.

The thing I can say is that they are starting to drift away from one another in an aspect that BF3 is more realistic/simulation and MW3 and the CoD series is more arcadey.

I have played CoD from the beginning too, but not BF. I started to play BF after I got an Xbox 360 and later got BF2: Modern Combat. It was way before Bad Company 1 was released though. I do still really enjoy CoD, but I do miss the older slower paced, realistic looking/feeling guns and the style. I absolutely love my WWII FPS games and I miss them. My favourite being the original, United Offensive and CoD2 (and 3, to be honest). I don't see the series ever returning to that, so that's a shame in a way. But I do still enjoy the newer style however. Maybe they should get one of the developers to come up with another WWII title that is similar to the old games, to keep everybody happy. I would still get them all, but yeah. With that being said, I pre-ordered the Special Edition of Battlefield 3 yesterday with the Battlefield 2 DLC stuff (and for this exclusive pre-order, Xbox Avatar Battlefield items too). I will definately be getting CoD for Christmas though, as I do every year (besides MW2 as I got it on release).

Hey I am writing a research paper for my class about competitive 360 games and how players social interaction, behavior, and motivation are affected and stimulated by positive/negative attitudes, fun/seriousness overtones, and communication. So i am deciding between black ops, Mod 3, and BF3 I am trying to figure out what FPS game to pick to study about. I am more familiar with the COD series and have never played BF. However both new releases seem to have good potential. From what I have read. Sounds like most people think Mod 3 is just an extension while BF 3 is new gameplay due to new engine and other stuff. If people don't mind I wanted to use this as a source in my research paper and can make you anonymous by not using your screenname in my paper. Otherwise, can anyone please give me feedback like which game you prefer and why? (i.e. game graphics, gameplay, game engine, map packs) you can totally get into being super specific and go all out haha. Thank you in advance =)

I got my hands on MW3 this weekend, also I bought BF3 the night it came out. After playing both of them I would have to say that my vote goes to COD.Sure there is a new one every year and they are getting to be the same game every year, but you know, they are awesome games and you dont fix what ain't broken.Kill Confirmed in MW3 is the best game mode in a FPS that I have played in a long time.

Sooo, by that logic we should all be driving '67 VW Beetles? They work. No need for things like fuel injection and disc brakes. In any case, every game maker should look to improve. and the CoD MW formula is getting stale and they are milking it to death.
