Home is lame. I'd prefer to be able to chat to people while I play a game than have to run around in a lame Sims world in order to chat with friends. HOme looks and feels liek it was designed by a bunch of suits that said "I hear myspace is popular as are the sims. Let's make that!" It feels so far removed from what online gaming is all about. Still no word on a unified buddy list...but I can decorte a virtual apartemnt with images off my HDD which could be porn and invite people in to see it. Ya sounds liek a good time, I think I'll stay with Live's interface.

Only thing that really got my attention about Home was the trophy room aspect.  All of the trophies look different and you can walk around your trophy room and look at them.  Also, I believe the trophy room gets bigger as your collection does.

That is way cool.

uh no? It's called customizing your space and showing off your trophies and interacting with strangers and other players using PSH matchmaking features. It's a way to express your self in digitally. Its only ghey if your a guy and you decorate your room girly..

im sure this is the wrong thread to bring this up but has no-one played Second Life? I mean this is an exact replica, right down to the changing billboards and the millions of microtransactions. I hope you enjoy your free ps home, and your character will look really cool after you have customized him with all the latest fashion and body modifications. if you skimp it might not even cost you 50 dollars. Home, i guess its not so free. especially when you have to change your clothes again in a month when there is a new style.

"Hey man, you should come up to my virtual apartment in Home. I pay Sony $20 a month for a virtual lakeside view. I went with sort of a gay porn theme - it's pretty sweet" Home sounds like the future *Home* of child molesters seeking to lure unsuspecting kiddies into their virtual apartments for "super fun times". Way to go Sony. Explains the baby in the commercials.

Discussion of HOME doesn't belong on this forum. It's not a matchmaking service therefore it is INCOMPARABLE to LIVE.

I dunno... to each their own, however I do not understand why sony fanboys think this will turn the PS3 around. I have been considering getting one just for Formula 1 but don't really need to as I have so many games for the 360. A free copy of sims/second life bundles with bowling and billiard arcade games is not gonna sway me any direction. The only thing that can turn sony around is a good European launch (where the ps3 is even MORE expensive than in the States) and a good blockbuster like MGS. I just learned that you can't play your own music while playing games on the PS3??? How retarded is that?

Ugh...this thread needs to be closed; I would love to have a discussion about comparing the Home concept to XBox Live but this thread shows that the topic has to first be started with a concise explanation of what Home exactly is.  Otherwise, you have fanboys on both sides jumping to defend either service like some virtual West Side Story...you know guys, it is possible to actually like the concept of both services.  Anyway, this thread is beyond redemption...stuff like this doesn't have to be in System Wars if it is done as an actual logical discussion though.

If I want to play online I don't want to go through all that crap. I just want a freinds that I can acsses any time I wish and be able to join there game and act there actions and at the moment only live can do that. You may say that XBL is just a pack of menu but it does what it does well and that is get you to your friends and media fast and easy you don't have to go through some Sims rip out to get to them. I really don't want to go over to someone's stupid v house to see there dumb trophies a Gamerscore is works so much better. All in all Home has no use to me. Until Sony can have a online service that allows me to track and invite my friends to a game while Im playing a game or watching a movie there online service is still a joke next to XBL.

Home reminds me of the way they portrayed the internet in Futurama. Graphics and figures kind of remind me of Uru Live style. But I don't see it having anything to do with improving online gameplay in games themselves. It's an intesting social idea, but nothing that really makes it better than Live for it being totally impractical.

What could be interesting is if the entire PS3 interface could become a virtual enviornment. Like the basic apartment controls all the functions of the PS3. It may seem like extra work to go to different rooms to do different things a simple menu could do, but consoles are about playing anyway. But it would be interesting with what they could do. Like normall on the PS3 if you highlight the inserted game, a background shows up for that game. But in a virtual enviornment you could create a room that has the game's graphics and has several options in there as you proceed to enter the game. Sort of like if you go to a big laser tag arena you go through several prep rooms that add to the atmosphere. Or a virtual lobby for games where other people enter only when the game is in the console and has the game's theme for room design.

Maybe you could also go to the virtual store and buy a game that is virtually good? Or play games on your virtual 50" HDTV in your virtual living room.

Home is for fat, ugly, broke people who can make themselves look good and rich in an imaginary world so they can forget they weigh over 100kg and nobody in the real world likes them. It is just a sad gimick nothing more, give me gameplay over that anyday.lynchdogg

I love XBL at home.

I do get lucky everyday at home.

I'm a male model, so that qualifies me as "hot", at least that's what my gf says... at home.

Home is very nice, even better with a XBL connection, but I do like to get out.

Well, in the apartment you can hang a Sony Bravia LCD, mentioned as an example, and then turn it on and play videos trhough it, then toss it down a stair case while watching it bounce with real looking physics while still playing the video. If that's your thing that is.

Home might be good if anything worth doing/getting in it is free (Yes, I understand the main bare-bones nothing service is free because of all the adverstising). Which I highly doubt Sony will allow.

I wonder if you will be able to chainsaw other characters? 8) That would be awesome... if you could do GTA stuff in Home, then it would be a plus. Otherwise you'll just be walking around looking at pepsi and mcD ads and talking to 14 year old boys pretending to be the girls they wish they were getting.

Home sure looks like a Prettier version of Second Life, but still cool to me. I just hope Sony can keep with the promises. Personally, I'd rather have a different Online experience on all 3 consoles, instead of a cookie cutter way to do things.

I think Home is a good idea but I myself am not interested at all. Call me old school but I buy my consoles to play games not meet people. I think Sony should be using the time and resources to develop games and technologies for games. Don't get me wrong I looove online gaming and playing with other people but I don't do it to meet new "friends". I think the whole Home thing is just gonna be a marketing asset to sell consoles to young teenagers and people that can't get a real life.

I thought Home looked pretty sweet and has a lot of potential, much better than a Gamercard. I like how you can stream video and pictures into HDTV's etc the customization possibility's are exiting but I forsee lots of gamers  spending more on Home content than a one year  XBL subscription costs. How much is $ony going to gouge for a decent shirt or pair of shoes for your character or a billiard's table for your house, more importantly how much is the big house?

To be honest, why would I want to pay real money for a virtual flat, spend time choosing the color of wallpaper and what posters to put up.

IMO xlive is a service, doing exactly what its supposed to do.

Home seems like a sim-game with a lot of unnecessary stuff for kids.

But the main question must be, does this improve the ps3´s online capabilities or not.

it all looks and sounds nice but it seems like over-kill... XBL is efficient, i can play a retro game chat with my friends check out their achievements and arrange a multi-player match all very quickly.. with Home it seems like a lot of time will be wasted fart arsing around between them.. but if it's fun and that PSP thing had all the features of Live quickly accessible then it should be all good.. we'll see cause i think Lag, long load times and advertisement overload could ruin the experience.

seems to be quite a bit of misunderstanding about what home is. a lot of people are calling it a game. it's not a game, it's more like an online lobby from which you can co-ordinate online games w/ friends. the community as it exists is namelist and messages and whatnot, this is just an expansion and fleshing out of the community. functionally, it's probably similar to xbox services w/ a few added features it would appear, e.g. bowling, pool, theatres. as to whether it improves online capabilities, it'd definitely make it more interesting and more convenient to meet random people for whatever game or movie; so in a sense yes, in that it would open lots of doors for the online community as a whole.

whether you see character customization as necessary or not it's largely irrelevant as it is just a perk of having an expanded virtual community.

I think it just overcomplicates things. Why go through all this mess of decorating your home just to have online friends look at it? They may actually play with you once in a while, but other than hardly anyone will use the feature for its intended purpose. To be honest, I would rather have an achievment system than a virtual house. As it has been said before, this is just a modest version of the Sims. Making game lobbies has been working for years, and I don't see the point in making this rediculous system when they have bigger fish to fry.

I got it now:

360 Live Service = Amazing Online Play experience.

PS3 Home = Amazing Online 3d-Messenger-like service.
