Well I'm 17 and I got my 360 a month ago but I put that I was 18 since I heard that you couldn't even use MSN as a 17 year old. But I hear theyre making a fix for that so it's up to you if you want to use MSN now or wait some months to use it.

with silver u cant play online mutliplayer games and with gold u can

you get one month free when you register your new xbox live account with your machine. but if you already have a account and you are just getting a new machine you won't get more free gold, atleast that's how i think it works.
