I've pretty much decided now that I'm going to get an Xbox. The only real reason I have left that is making me question getting it a little is the RROD and otehr issues. For some reason it never really occurred to me to just add on a warranty and then I don't have to worry about it so much. However, I've never purchased a warranty from a store before because there was a local electronic repair store I always got my warranties from. However, since I moved out of state that is no longer an option. So my question is, which store offers the best extended warranty plan? I'm thinking that is where I will buy the system from.

I looked online a little. Target seems like it is out of the question as their warranty doesn't get good reviews. Wal-Mart is appealing because they offer 3 years on top of manufacturer warranty, it would be great to get a total of 4 years. Online Best Buy only listed a 2-year plan and I would prefer to get a little bit longer (I'm sure they have a longer plan, but just don't list it on the website) and it seems like others that have Best Buys warranty here on GameSpot seem to like it.

Any experiences or suggestions would be really appreciated.

First of all, great choice. Its the best next gen console hands down. Second, there is no need for you to spend extra money. Microsoft provides you with a free 3 year RROD/E74 repair warranty. If you console happens to kick it, you send it in and you get it sent back in working shape. Third, if you want to have a next to 0 chance of getting the RROD, when you buy your new console, follow this guide. http://giftguide.toptenreviews.com/?p=2721 The guide states your best bet is the Arcade model, which was true in December but now just follow that guide for any SKU (I recommend the mid-tier Pro w/ 60GB HD)

Thanks for the reply. So are the RROD and E74 really the only issues with the Xbox? It seems like there were a lot of problems and some people were having issues having Microsoft repair them, plus all the time it takes to get them repaired. For the most part it seemed like Microsoft was doing okay with people, but there were a few I read that were having problems. I thought I read of some people getting BB's warranty and basically just going in store and having it replaced, but I could be wrong. Thanks for the guide. I knew that the Jasper chipset was the best available, but was looking for some tips as to how to spot one. I was originally planning to get it from Amazon, but without being able to make sure it is Jasper I think it is a little risky (although they have a model for the Pro that they say is new than the model that comes with the 2008 Holiday Bundle) I stopped by Best Buy quick today and they have the Xbox's on a shelf, not locked up, so I was able to look at them. I couldn't remember how people were saying to tell what chipset it was, but did look at the manufacturing date and the one was August and one was November of 2008. So I will look over the guide and make note of things before I actually purchase one. I am planning to get the Pro model. The arcade model seems very base and like it will cost more than pro in the long run and I don't really want the black system for the Elite so I'm thinking I will stick with pro.

Thanks for the suggestions. I played the demo of Bioshock on PS3 and it was okay, but not really my type of game. I've heard a lot about Halo and I'm interested to try it, but these are all games I would like to demo before buying, so I'm interested in seeing what is available on live. Thanks again for your replies!

I bought mine at Best Buy with the warranty as has my brother and cousins and whenever any of us have had issues we have gotten a replacement 360 no problem at Best Buy and you keep your hard drive so you don't lose any of your information.

you should not worry about your 360. microsoft covers you for 3 years after the date of purchase. just call them up if you have a problem and you will get a working one back very soon. btw, 360 is the best system this gen.

Thanks for the info. For the cost it seems like it would be nice to be able to go right in and get things taken care of instead of having to ship it back and everything. I know with Wal-Mart you have to call a number and go through them that way, so it kind of seems like it would be about the same as what Microsoft offers, so I think Best Buy will be the way to go.

Thanks. I guess I just need to think it over a little before making my decision. For a few bucks it may be worth putting my mind at ease. I'm really excited to get the Xbox. I've wanted one for some time, but the RROD was what always put me off. It looks like a great system and I'm excited to see what it has to offer. I got a PS3 in hopes of expanding my gaming likes and it did somewhat, but I still have ended up getting most of the same style games as I usually get, so I'm hoping the Xbox will help me expand even more.

Thanks, that is good to hear. I definitely think I will go with Best Buy if I decide to get a warranty. From what I've been reading and hearing it seems like they have the best one.
