Mass Effect hands down. Personally one of my favorites ever if not my favorite of all time. I liked oblivion too but the story wasnt as compelling and didn't pull me in as much as Mass Effect. If you are looking for a game you can really get into and attached to its Mass Effect all the way.
ME was awesome, but I think it was just too short. The only reason I chose oblivion is because you can put in over 100 hours and still actually wanna play it ..once ME ends it ends.
I'm going to have say Mass Effect... the story is just so entertaining. Now, I loved Oblivion, and I played myself sick the first week I got it, but I didn't like the world as much as its predisessor.
i personally found Eternal Sonata just great. i haven't tried Mass Effect or Lost Odyssey yet, but I have played Oblivion. Oblivion's combat was rather dull and boring. it does promise a lot of length, but i got bored of it after playing about 50 hours of it. Eternal Sonata was pretty addicting, though more linear. even so, i found Eternal Sonata more enjoyable and plus, the soundtrack and artistic design are some of the best i've ever encountered
Mass Effect so far has been the best...Oblivion was fun, but what was fun about it is what i usually dont care about in RPGs....if Lost Odyssey keeps going the way it is, it could take Mass Effect as the best RPG, i'm about 10 hours in and has restored my faith in JRPGs... to me that genre has been in decline since the KH series....but the fact that the short stories in the game is the best part so far goes to show how epic the storytelling has been so far, and to me that's the most important thing in a RPG.
Oblivion is probably the overall best RPG. Mass Effect is a very close second. Lost Odyssey and Eternal Sonata are also fantastic as well, but Oblivion is still the king.
However, does anyone else find it interesting that it is Microsoft's XBox which has all the great RPGs instead of Sony's Playstation?

it is kind of ironic, but with development teams such as Mistwalker, Bioware, and Bethesda releasing games for the 360....it's no surprise the amount of good RPGs that are on the 360
