I personally believe that Bioshock is an amazing gaming experience. But I truly think that the no penalty death system is a nasty blemish on a near perfect product. It seems that the makers of Bioshock knew exactly what gamers want in a game except for a challenge. Now don't get me wrong, I think Bioshock is groundbreaking on many so many levels, I just can't turn a blind eye on the complete lack of a challenge.IAvDI
I think the game would have been a whole lot more frusturating if you had to die and start over at a checkpoint. I think it kept the game entertaining and fun.
This one is really up to the gamer. I have friends who like it since they arent hardcore type gamers and have trouble with it. I think you have to have some restraint. I tend to just reload my last save if i die and i normally save at a chamber since those normally mean a big fight coming up.
It would have been nice to disable them in the options before you start the game though just like the goal arrow.

That's why the game developers chose that "death system." They said it left players feeling like they were still in the world instead of dying and then going to a title screen or something. People would be more inclined to finish or play a little longer if they "stayed in" the game. It was on the latest Game Head over at GT if you wanted to see the video.....

Yes, and I agree that it is done well in terms of "staying in the game". I'm not saying that I want to be thrown into a menu, it just would have been nice to play the game on the hardest difficulty and not have the option to run aimlessly through the game with no fear of dying, not that I do that, it just shouldn't be an option.[QUOTE="destinhpark"][QUOTE="IAvDI"]I personally believe that Bioshock is an amazing gaming experience. Who said anything about checkpoints... I like the seamlessness of the way it is, it does alleviate some frustration. But I also like a challenge, perhaps they could have made the enemies health regenerate any time you die and are sent to a vita-chamber.

agreed. the game is good just the way it is.
the game is freakin awesome but during scenes where u have to defend against a s load of splicers the challenge is totally taken away, they could have just made it a little easier in those spots but disabled the instant rebirth, like in the part with the scientists lab
no it isnt just think about what would you do if you could die umm load up the game and try again until you eventually get it this way its just streamlinedGen007
True... but you don't try again, you just pick up where you left off. So if a big Daddy is half dead but your method failed and he ends up killing you, you can just continue fighting him penalty free. So what's to stop you from fighting him, damaging him, dying, repeat.

Ah, I see where you're coming from. It does eliminate some of the actual "fear" and "strategy" that could've been involved.

But they do, if u havent hacked the health station, they run to it and get full health again.
I dont mind the death system, Im playing on hard for the first run through and I die quite a lot. Maybe I suck? I dunno, but this is one of those games that annoy me. Dont get me wrong its a awesome game, the only thing that annoys me is when I shoot someone (mainly splicers in this instance) in the head I expect it to = dead. Not shoot them 6 times in the head with a pistol and have them still running around. BS!. If the death system wasnt the way it is, Id probably have given up on it.
I guess this is why I prefer the R6 and Ghost Recon games, 1 shot to the head = dead. The way it should be.
