I have had my Xbox 360 for about 7 months now and have never had the ring of death. Same thing with 3 of my friends, never. We all take good care of our 360s always making sure we turn them off and not have any damage to them. I just got done reading a forum about people throwing controllers and somtimes even having there xboxs fall to the floor. And they wonder why they have gone through 4 systems? Im not saying that every one who has a broken 360 is responsible i mean it happens. But really going through 3-4 systems i think its a little more then coincedence.French023
For starters throwing the controller has nothing to do with your xbox breaking down. Ive been breaking and rebuying controllers since the Genesis and none of those previous consoles seem to mind.
Iv gone through 3 360's and I'll be on my fourth console. I leave the 360 on a table that I've placed next to my tv,it has 5 feet of nothing around it on all sides, and treat it just like I treated my Xbox, PS2 and PC, none of those electronics seem to have the urge to self destruct.
This is not a consumer fault at all. First time it got bricked was after the very first fall update, second one only lasted one day, third one died when I put an original xbox game in the system, played it for like five minutes then the 360 froze up. Turned the power off and on.... and TUH DA!!! Instantly fried 360.
Kind of Ironic that my 15 year old Nintendo that I bought at yard sale for 25 bucks still works but..... this 400 dollar machine that I buy at retail has yet to last a year.

I've gone through four and I'm on my fifth buddy and I didn't do a damn thing to hurt them. Never moved them. Kept them clean. Didn't do anything harmful whatsoever and they still broke.
Sure some people mess them up.. but there are a good number of us out there that have those random, junky 360s that tend to just explode when they feel like it.
Yours will too someday. So don't get all happy about it. After my first one was played for a year it started to act iffy. You'll see.

I felt the same way at one point. I'd kept my launch console alive and kicking for nearly 2 years before it died a week before Halo 3 came out. I have since changed my tune though. I take exquisite care of my equipment. None of my discs even has a scratch on it. The machine was well vented, etc. I have now changed my opinion on the 360s that people kill. Do I believe a good portion of the early deaths and people who have gone through more than 3 are at least partially their fault for exacerbating their problem? Yeah, probably. I also understand that the 360 appears to have some inherent problem which simply seems to add up over time.nosferatui went through my first in 6 months,,, it was not my fault the thing wont recognize itself... it kept telling me place this in an xbox360 console to play it,, which i was the 2nd also went out in 6 months of its purchase, red ring of death and all i was doing was playing wrestling,,, so clearly its not always your fault... its the manufacturers fault for releasing such units
and,, im suprised this 3rd one after having a random error the same error the first one keeps giving me to play this game place this disc in an xbox 360 console.. still works and didnt give me a red ring of death while racing 500 laps in nascar, i better hope it dont happen the next time i do

While I agree that many people around here don't treat their property with respect and don't seem to understand that the more consoles become like computers, the more we have to treat them with similar care, I disagree with your assessment that seems to indicate that the 360 isn't a heavily flawed piece of equipment, or that MS completely fudged up the design and yet continues to churn out defective units.
I had my premium for about a year and a half and babied it. It sat on a counter untouched, I lightly dusted it every once in a while but didn't manhandle the console. It was very well ventilated, but was also very well used. I eventually got the RRoD at the 1 1/2 year mark... almost to the day... and sent it out and got another shortly after. In the meantime, I decided to buy an Elite and sell the Premium when it got back (which I have).
The Elite was broken out of the box. According to the troubleshooting done on it, it was a blown GPU or scaler chip. I was going to sell all my 360 stuff and replace all my games on PS3 instead (I do have a PS3, though it's mainly used for movies / Blu Ray and because my PS2 was on it's last legs), but I wanted to play Mass Effect so I tried one more time and got another Elite (I had a Best Buy replacement plan on Xbox #2, but still could've traded it in for cash). This one's been working and I've lent the Premium to my buddy, who aparrently intends to buy it.
I just sent my first on in for repair (RROD). I only had it for 10 months. I took it out of the box and put in a very open space. I haven't moved it since. I am sure there are a hand full of people that don't treat their box's great, however this is due to very poor construction on MS part. I had many systems myself and they all still work fine. I treated my PS2 very bad I let dust collect all over it. It still works. My xbox 360 is like my baby, I dust it, keep it very clean, don't let little kids near it, and talk to it every now and then. It is just crazy to have this many people having problems with their box. I will be waiting for mine to get back so I can play my COD4.
How long should it take for me to get it back? i sent it today NOV, 13th 2007. Will I get it back before thanksgiving?
I have just sent my first one in for repair, i had it for 10 month and had zero problems. I always have it in a safe open space with a cooling fan on whenever im playing. walked in one day and found my younger brother and three of his friends trying to play Halo 3, they immediately tell me it's not working:evil:. somehow the disc tray got damaged, and now it jams up and can't read any disc. well at least i got a gamecube and PS2:D(ugh...im so bored:cry: ).
If you're lucky maybe. I sent mine in on 10/29 and it's coming in on 11/15.I just sent my first on in for repair (RROD). I only had it for 10 months.
