I recently got the RROD and sent it in for repairs. The RROD came from no fault of my own. Actually for the first year that I owned my 360 I had a fan the blew air on the system. It never over heated and was in a well ventilated area. I also used canned air to keep the system dust and debris free. I never took my system anywhere either and never really moved it from it's originally location. Then one day I plugged in my play and charge into the USB port and BAM, RROD. So not everyone is trashing their systems, but yes I'm sure that some people do dumb things!

I have had my Xbox 360 for about 7 months now and have never had the ring of death. Same thing with 3 of my friends, never. We all take good care of our 360s always making sure we turn them off and not have any damage to them. I just got done reading a forum about people throwing controllers and somtimes even having there xboxs fall to the floor. And they wonder why they have gone through 4 systems? Im not saying that every one who has a broken 360 is responsible i mean it happens. But really going through 3-4 systems i think its a little more then coincedence.French023

For starters throwing the controller has nothing to do with your xbox breaking down. Ive been breaking and rebuying controllers since the Genesis and none of those previous consoles seem to mind.

Iv gone through 3 360's and I'll be on my fourth console. I leave the 360 on a table that I've placed next to my tv,it has 5 feet of nothing around it on all sides, and treat it just like I treated my Xbox, PS2 and PC, none of those electronics seem to have the urge to self destruct.

This is not a consumer fault at all. First time it got bricked was after the very first fall update, second one only lasted one day, third one died when I put an original xbox game in the system, played it for like five minutes then the 360 froze up. Turned the power off and on.... and TUH DA!!! Instantly fried 360.

Kind of Ironic that my 15 year old Nintendo that I bought at yard sale for 25 bucks still works but..... this 400 dollar machine that I buy at retail has yet to last a year.

I used to think this, too, until I got the RROD myself. I never left my 360 on when I wasn't using it, and rarely gamed for more than two or three hours. I never ran my 360 without plenty of ventilation. I really don't know what I could have done differently.

People really need to stop posting in these (and similar) forums so much and form a class-action lawsuit. If enough people got in on it, Microsoft would have to do more than extend their warranty again. Alas, folks are just too damn chickens*** to put together a CAL. God knows if I had to go through several bricked units, I'd be contacting every burned customer I could find and set up the biggest CAL in history.

I felt the same way at one point. I'd kept my launch console alive and kicking for nearly 2 years before it died a week before Halo 3 came out. I have since changed my tune though. I take exquisite care of my equipment. None of my discs even has a scratch on it. The machine was well vented, etc. I have now changed my opinion on the 360s that people kill. Do I believe a good portion of the early deaths and people who have gone through more than 3 are at least partially their fault for exacerbating their problem? Yeah, probably. I also understand that the 360 appears to have some inherent problem which simply seems to add up over time.

I've gone through four and I'm on my fifth buddy and I didn't do a damn thing to hurt them. Never moved them. Kept them clean. Didn't do anything harmful whatsoever and they still broke.

Sure some people mess them up.. but there are a good number of us out there that have those random, junky 360s that tend to just explode when they feel like it.

Yours will too someday. So don't get all happy about it. After my first one was played for a year it started to act iffy. You'll see.

i went through my first in 6 months,,, it was not my fault the thing wont recognize itself... it kept telling me place this in an xbox360 console to play it,, which i was the 2nd also went out in 6 months of its purchase, red ring of death and all i was doing was playing wrestling,,, so clearly its not always your fault... its the manufacturers fault for releasing such units

and,, im suprised this 3rd one after having a random error the same error the first one keeps giving me to play this game place this disc in an xbox 360 console.. still works and didnt give me a red ring of death while racing 500 laps in nascar, i better hope it dont happen the next time i do

Still on my first. I clean it twice a week (sometimes more), so there's no reason for it to fail on me unless there's a hardware problem.

Had it since 11/06. First one still. It's constantly being used so I'm wondering how I'm still on it :). It's taken pretty good care of. Got it's own room next to my TV where air reaches it perfectly.

While I agree that many people around here don't treat their property with respect and don't seem to understand that the more consoles become like computers, the more we have to treat them with similar care, I disagree with your assessment that seems to indicate that the 360 isn't a heavily flawed piece of equipment, or that MS completely fudged up the design and yet continues to churn out defective units.

I had my premium for about a year and a half and babied it. It sat on a counter untouched, I lightly dusted it every once in a while but didn't manhandle the console. It was very well ventilated, but was also very well used. I eventually got the RRoD at the 1 1/2 year mark... almost to the day... and sent it out and got another shortly after. In the meantime, I decided to buy an Elite and sell the Premium when it got back (which I have).

The Elite was broken out of the box. According to the troubleshooting done on it, it was a blown GPU or scaler chip. I was going to sell all my 360 stuff and replace all my games on PS3 instead (I do have a PS3, though it's mainly used for movies / Blu Ray and because my PS2 was on it's last legs), but I wanted to play Mass Effect so I tried one more time and got another Elite (I had a Best Buy replacement plan on Xbox #2, but still could've traded it in for cash). This one's been working and I've lent the Premium to my buddy, who aparrently intends to buy it.

I'm on my second because I broke my first on purpose. The disk tray was repetively jamming, so one day I ripped the whole thing out and slammed it back in. I though it might still work...so I put an OXM disk in and the Xbox chewed it up. Returned it with the "Ring of Death" excuse and got a brand new one : )

I'm on my second one. The first lasted two months and then the disk drive started acting up. I'd have to say I'm quite dissapointed with the 360's quality so far. I still have a working Atari 2600, NES, SNES, Genisis with Sega CD and 32X, Wii, Turbo Grafix 16and a PS2. So far none of these have died and the 2600 is going on almost 25 years old. Granted it hardly ever gets touched anymore, but still.

some people have really bad luck with there 360's, like m$ wont replace them if they see physical damage to them, theres one guy on youtube who has been through ten 360's and he still keeps coming back to them which is pathetic, and these type of topics, even though i know that you did say that some people just have bad luck, youkind of i think said that most of the broken 360s are broken cause there miss treated which is very far from the truth, its a manufacturing error

I'm on my 3rd. 360 but, the first two were my fult. I didn't read what the manual said about placing it. It needs to be in an open place were it can get fresh air.I also have a PS3 that is still under warranty that sony will not fix because I can't find my receipt. I've had games going back to the atari 2600.

It doesn't help that the replacement units they send you are refurbished. I'm on my third console, and my 2nd lasted all of 1 hour before it broke down on me. Not to mention that my controllers have stopped working. Both my wireless ones have stopped recieving the signal from the 360, and I've NEVER dropped them. Not to mention how easily the buttons get stuck. Microsoft ftl.

I just sent my first on in for repair (RROD). I only had it for 10 months. I took it out of the box and put in a very open space. I haven't moved it since. I am sure there are a hand full of people that don't treat their box's great, however this is due to very poor construction on MS part. I had many systems myself and they all still work fine. I treated my PS2 very bad I let dust collect all over it. It still works. My xbox 360 is like my baby, I dust it, keep it very clean, don't let little kids near it, and talk to it every now and then. It is just crazy to have this many people having problems with their box. I will be waiting for mine to get back so I can play my COD4.

How long should it take for me to get it back? i sent it today NOV, 13th 2007. Will I get it back before thanksgiving?

I have just sent my first one in for repair, i had it for 10 month and had zero problems. I always have it in a safe open space with a cooling fan on whenever im playing. walked in one day and found my younger brother and three of his friends trying to play Halo 3, they immediately tell me it's not working:evil:. somehow the disc tray got damaged, and now it jams up and can't read any disc. well at least i got a gamecube and PS2:D(ugh...im so bored:cry: ).

I've had my 360 for about 4 weeks now and have been trying to keep it in perfectcondition. Open space, cool room, not on carpet, taking breaks between playing time, not moving 360 while disc in and on.Anything that will keep it from getting Rodd or whatever the stories I hear. Thankfully nothing has happened but one of these somthing will happen:\
