M4/M16 - Red Dot Sight, Silencers can be used as you get better, but it's still a toss up.

Everyone's posting their favorite, but that doesn't help OP much if they have a different playing style than the one offering the advice. The best advice I can give you is to try out all the guns and find one you like....

Definitely agree with that. There's really no point in using someone else's class structure, since they likely play differently (and perhaps different modes) to you. Keep playing with different set-ups and you'll eventually find something you like.
I change my main class frequently, and I play Hardcore Headquarters almost all the time now. Currently, I'm into the G36C (w/ RDS) -- RPG, UAV Jammer, and Deep Impact.
