i was planning on asking for assassins creed for christmas but its looking more like a rental now (low scores on both 1up and ign) along with Bioshock

im still getting Bioshock but need another game

im leaning toward The Orange Box since ive never played half-life before, but COD4's campaign/multiplayer/graphics look amazing.

so what do u guys think? by the way i already own Halo 3

mass effect looks ineresting too but i dont know if id like it since im not much of a rpg fan

and its definately only one or the other not both.

As of right now Orange Box would be the better choice. Call of Duty 4 SP is far too short and XBL has been messing up for a few days making the MP not even playable. The single player in COD4 is great though and I have beat it on Normal and will be trying to beat it again on Veteran this time....I haven't played the Orange Box yet but I plan on buying it tomorrow :)

Don't buy AC based on scores, those are just professional opinions, i is a great game with so many abilities, Get Ac and Cod 4 at frys and you ge them for 90.00 together, i think:d

the multiplayer is fine... usually. im level 32 or something.

havent played the orange box or assassins creed yet, because im too busy with COD4. i will buy both in due corse though, as they both certainly look worth my time.

ive played bioshock - didnt like it - oh well.

You said your getting BioShock for Christmas. Well, I think you should talk to your parents and tell them to buy it off of Amazon.com and get The Darkness with it. It's also a great game, although a bit short.

Between COD4 and TOB, I would say COD4. Your already getting BioShock, which is a great single player experience, so you should look to get a great multiplayer experience. Unless your like me, and don't really care for it. If you don't mind single player, definitely get The Orange Box. The multiplayer is also good in that so you still have a good multiplayer game, I just think COD4 has a better one.

i've heard CoD4s multiplayer is better than halo, which is amazing, so i really don't know

the orange box has soo much in it and it all looks good, i'm really torn

and regarding AC,i know its just professional opinion but thro my experience 1up/ign are usually pretty acurate.

The orange box is a game that shouldn't be missed its a greal deal with HL 2, HL 2 episode 1 HL 2 episode 2, portal which is insanely fun and humorous, and team fortress the strategic team based game-play in TF2 is amazing and phenomenal you would be addicted after playing for twenty minutes

If you were old enough to buy these games yourself, you'd know what you want.

If you were old enough to buy these games, you'd do enough research to warrant a purchase of any title instead of creating a monotonous thread.

Mr. I'm a grown up over here.

I'm old enough to buy any game I want, but did you ever think that maybe he did research it and still didn't come to a conclusion? Your probably young yourself, just turned 18 and now you think your an adult. Hell you could be 40 and that still doesn't give you the right to post that.

I could do the same.

If you were old enough, you would know not to post anything irrelevant to the question at hand.

Stop trying to up your post count ;)

PS: Sorry for the hypocrisy, it just bugs me out when people post irrelevant garbage for no reason. Just because you look at a thread doesn't mean you have to post.

Let's see... I already have HL2 and Episode 1 on my PC. Portal while good is somewhat short. I'm only getting Portal, Episode 2 and TF2 for the cost.

CoD4 is just one game, but I think it's amazing.

Half Life will have you going through areas and solving some simple puzzles ALONE. CoD4 is really about picking guys off and has your teammates shouting, guns shooting... it's much more alive. While both stories were so-so, I like CoD4's singleplayer better because the presentation is stunning and you feel as if you are on a team, not some lonely mission.

Portal I have no idea. The ending is said to be amazing.

TF2... I tried it at a PC place where it was laggy. The style is great, but you can really try it on TF1. Well, I guess you could say you could play CoD4 with CoD3's multiplayer... CoD4 has the level up system on guns and abilities. TF2 has the 9 classes however. I never have problems with CoD4 multiplayer.

I would say examine both single and multiplayer. Half-Life is about yourself. You might see people, but it's largely you and some puzzle to be solved. CoD4 has you in a battlefield, guns blazing, you hear your commander yelling orders, grenades going left and right. It's intense. People say it's short, but you know what it's for a good reason. I bet half the time in other games, you are told what to do, but you don't know WHERE IT IS. CoD4 has a arrow system to help you out and not get lost. This is great I think so you don't get frustrated and scream WHERE THE HECK IS THE DANG KEY!

Multiplayer wise TF2 is capture the flag. Change map capture, etc. WHAT SOMETHING COD4 does that I haven't seen before in FPS is that you don't have "spawn places". What I mean is that you spawn next to allies. That means one part of the map is yours for a minute, then later you might actually have the other side. It makes gameplay much more intense than knowing that this area is safe.

SOLO:

HalfLife2: by yourself, solve puzzles, hordes of bad guys

CoD4: with teammates, non-frustrating objectives

MULTIPLAYER:

TF2: CTF, 9 classes, same spawn points

COD: Upgrade system, changing spawn points, several modes

I say OB. Your getting more out of your money with it. If you have never played Half Life then its gonna make it 20x more enyable! THats just my oppinion I just dont see the fun in getting cussed out on XBL by a 7 year old who claims hes from the ghetto.

I generally agree with IGN's reviews, but I think they're way off base on AC. There wasa ton of hype attached to this game Iknow, but I think it livesup to most of it. Sure its repetitive, which isreally the onlynegativeI can see (arguably a positive),but so are a lot of games;its gameplay mechanics arereally really fun. Itsa super fresh title, never played anything quite like it; feels very next gen. OB and COD4 are both must-haves, especially if you're gonnaappreciating the multiplayercomponent. COD4's singleplayer length is definitely longerthan 5 hours if you don't play it onone of the wimpier difficultysettings: veteran isparticularly punishing, and ifyou're a videogame masochist, you will enjoy. And IMO just rent Bioshock... if can only get 2, I'd be goin with AC and COD4.

hey thanks for all the help guys

i think i might get the orange box its just too good a value

CoD4's 5hr campagn is what im concerned about

i'll probably just rent it instead and if the multiplayer completely blows me away i might change my mind

Halo 3's multi is keeping me pretty happy now tho

i alsoneed checkout Mass Effect (i doubt i'll like it, but i've been surprised before)

and for the record i am old enough to buy these games and i did do research

thanks again

i'd just say Orange Box because you get more single player gameplay and more variety, it's scarier, portal's rad, and tf2 is better balanced than cod4 online.if you like flinch shooters, cod4, but if you like teamwork do tf2.
