A really good Vietnam war game has never been made and the only way i can see it being done any time soon is when call of duty 5 (or even 6) is made. Now for people who say that vietnam is a bad setting since its mostly fought in jungle and very few normal battles were fought are just plain wrong. You could have a fewlevelsin Keh San a few in Saigon and maybe one in a jungle and a couple wierd things like in call of duty 4 like taking troops back and forth from battle for ten minutes in a helicopter.

One of the biggest reasons I think call of duty vietnam would be so good is because of the variety of weapons. the m-16 is knd of a do everything weapon (20 round clip version) the m1 carbine (fully auto) is a great short range weapon. they have the american rpgs. the m14 is a great brute strength/long range weapon. ak-47 (obviously) the grease gun (an american smg that was often used by the vietmanese army) and some normal rifles that were used by the vietnamese.

I'd like that. The only 'Nam game Ive played was Shellshock, and I liked it.

If they do make a Vietnam game, then they better make it very bloody and a good bit of gore. I know its not CoD style but its Vietnam, and Ive heard story's from family members... It was not a clean war, then again, no war is.

Yeah I think Vietnam would be a great setting as long as a strong development team was on the project. I mean there is just so much, Khe Sahn like /\/\/\ said and the Tet Offensive would be like nerve-racking to be in the middle of. Jungle trekking may get tedious but guerilla warfare would definitely be fun to do. CoD 4 was good with the whole special forces thing, but Vietnam was where we were forced to engage in that sort of tactics, because of the enemy's strategy....Battlefield Vietnam was definitely one of my favorite games but Inifinity Ward can do soo much more...

I believe Vietnam would make a great setting, and I think that the only guys who could pull it off are the ones at Infinity Ward. I wouldn't mind some intense firefights in the jungle.

Hopefully the developers for CoD keep the modern setting. i have played most WWII CoD's and i didn't like one of them. CoD4 is the only one in my collection. If they are smart they will not go back to those crappy WWII or past war style of games.

Just so you know vietnam weapons are very close to the weapons used in cod 4. The ak47 was used in vietnam and so was the m-16 (though they were both the older models) so i have to say you are pretty much wrong.

That's what I was thinking. Vietnam doesn't really fit with the CoD style. CoD is typically big, loud, room rattling battles and Vietnam is more about ambushes and short, intense gun battles. Add to that the lack of effective cover/hiding spots in the jungle and it doesn't really fit the CoD style.

Do I think they could make a good Vietnam game? For sure.... they would just have to willing to deviate from the tried and true formula.

a game in a vietnam setting would be cool. to the guy that said the jungle wouldnt work. There are streets, buildings and towns in Vietnam just like any country. there was another game called Men of Valor for original xbox set in vietnam but im sure the COD developers would make it awesome.

That would be sweet... were guriella warfare is rampant.. and the m16 is still the new kid on the block... Great idea, now if only a good 'Nam game would come out...

Activision/Infinity Ward would be the best bet if you want a good one. They seem like the only studio that can really make a good realistic shooter, IMO. Even though its supposed "not their style" it doesnt mean that they wouldn't make a good game.

I partially agree. There were some pretty effing hectic battles in the Vietnam war. But maybe a Brothers In Arms approach might be better suited to Nam.

I would personally love to see a longer campaign in COD....maybe where you battle over a huge map on a server and each territory is it's own battle and if you had to fly in supplies and ammo and stuff too. MAn that would rock. Especially if they could pull of a varying length Co-op mode over live.

Actually I was thinking the exact same thing, since call of duty ussually has more than one faction fighting that you could play as you could have U.S. South vietnam and maybe the south Koreans. Also to the guy who said that Vietnam was a pointless war I agree for the most part but also think about how many wars in history have been pointless (it probably a least 80%)

Vietnam would be pretty sweet. The only issue I can see is that the single player story wouldn't be too fulfilling... seeing as it didn't really go anywhere. And you can't reinvent the past. I think it would be awesome if they did a war on our turf style modern day shooter. It would be awesome to have all out war in some familiar places in our great states. And they should incorporate destructive environments to the gameplay.

Vietnam to many veterans is a war with many hardships. The memories of this war, to many of the brave men and women who participated in it, is something that many of them, even today, do not feel free to talk about. Much like the Forgotten War (Korea War). Maybe another time and another day.FlashCharge

Sounds like you're cribbing from your 8th grade history book.

All war has hardships. It's just that the nation went soft... like WW2 didn't have hardships? The Holocaust alone killed ten times the people that died in Vietnam.

If there's any reason to not make a game like this it's because the war didn't play out in a way that makes linear storytelling easy. You'll be in the jungle and get ambushed. Then you'll get ambushed elsewhere. It's like Iraq... someone blows themselves up and the battles over. Guerrila tactics don't make for an interesting gameplay... at least, being on the receiving end of them doesn't. Also makes it hard to have a happy ending when you... y'know... don't win.

I'd like to see a capable dev studio make games based on the earlier wars... War of 1812, American Revolution, Civil War, Spanish American War... maybe some of the beef that was going on between England and France back in the day.

A little off topic here, but we need more decent games featuring samurai as well.

Another guy and I were talking about that a few weeks ago and agreeing that it would be a great idea to set a COD in a Vietnam warfare. If you think about it,not to many games have done Vietnam to death like how other games have done WWII to death!

ia drang, khe sanh, battle for hue (tet offensive) and some jolly green giant rescue missions would be very climatic and perfect for call of duty.

Treyarch is thinking about making Call of Duty 7 a Vietnam game.
