You will have to sign into his gamertag in order to play these games I am sorry to say, you can't just recover his gamertag, download them, and play them on your account unless you do a license transfer from his Xbox to yours, but I don't suggest doing that because he wont be able to use any of his arcade games offline. A suggestion to this is just sign into his gamertag if he allows you to do so, or just pay to get the games yourself, because these are the only 2 ways you will get to play the full versions on your box.

lets just say it's not a good idea, if you do a license transfer then he is basically telling Microsoft that he got a new console, and if anything happens where he can't afford having internet around, or needs to play offline for some reason like he took his 360 to a friends that doesn't have internet, he wont be able to play any of his Arcade titles, Xbox Originals, map packs etc, this tool should be used for emergency use only since you can only transfer licenses to your 360 once every 12 months.
So... like I said just buy them yourself, or see if you can get permission to use his gamertag while playing these games on your system, its a much better option in the long run.
