Yes, it just reduces the noise and supposodely make's it faster to load

You mean like having it installed, but played from the disc (i.e. noise and all)? I believe you can. Put in the disc, and open the guide. There might be an option that reads "Play from Disc" ... or, go the Dashboard, click on the main game slide thing, and then say to "Play from Disc."

Never actually tried, but I swear I've seen it before.

There's an option to "Play from Disc" or something like that in the guide button. I've never tried it myself; no reason for it.

Why would you play from the DVD is you installed it to your HDD? Why wouldn't you play it from your HDD? Are you bringing the game to a friend's house and hope to play both copies at the same time?
