So, I was wondering what you guys thought about the castlevania demo that was just released. Good, bad, dissapointing?

I thought it was kinda dull. The narrator seems to be talking about something completely unrelated to whats happening to the game. Then the game plays like the biggest rip off of God of War since Dante's Inferno. It wouldn't be such a big deal if the game introduced something new, but as it is it just rides on the success of God of War. Or at least thats what it seems like from the demo. I didn't even finish it.vashkey
I agree with the part about the narration, it was really dull and unnecessary. However, I haven't played God of War or Dante's Inferno, so the gameplay of the demo didn't feel too familiar to me that it became monotonous.
Either way it doesn't play like a Castlevania game at all. They could have called it something else completely and no one would have known the difference.vashkey
What do you mean? how does a castlevania game play? I mean they really havent made any since side scrolling days, did you want another side scroller?

Have you ever played a Castlevania game before? They weren't beat em' action games. They were action adventure games more in the vein of Metroid where the game would often require the player to go back to previously explored areas to open up new parts of the environment with equipment they find later in the game.
This one is just God of War.
And they haven't made any games since the side scrolling days? What is that even supposed to mean? It's not like the series has been in Hiatus or anything, new Castlevania games come out regularly. Castlevania: Harmony of Despair just came out a couple months ago. Castlevania: The Adventure Rebirth came out last year and Order of Ecclesia came out in 2008.
The series has continued to be well recieved critically and still continues to sell well, so it's not like a reboot was necessary. Now, if you're saying they haven't made any 3d Castlvania games, that simply isn't the case and they've all seen varying degrees of failure.
i liked it alot...ten times better then god of war...So, I was wondering what you guys thought about the castlevania demo that was just released. Good, bad, dissapointing?

First- God of War did not invent this genre(Devil May Cry/Onimusha 4 years before God of War, even Drakengard hit three weeks before the first God of War), so it wouldn't be a God of War ripoff.
Second- thanks to this demo, I may buy my first 3D Castlevania game. It may see pretty straight forward here, but I imagine once you reach the inevitable Castle, it will be more about acquiring skills and backtracking with new abilities.
Third - I agree that Castlevania did not need a reboot. What it should have done was had a story that filled in some of the events between Portrait of Ruin and the Sorrow games.I thought it was kinda dull. Finally played the demo.
Pros:
- Very cinematic
- Good graphics
- Nice character design
- To me, it doesn't feel like a God of War clone, because quite frankly, it doesn't even come close. It's FAR from it. I dont know if that is a pro or con. Just laying it out there.
Cons:
- Poor choice of voice actors. Robert Carlyle does not sound like a Gabriel type of character. Patrick Stewart drags his voice too much, making narrations LONG, dull, and boring. Did you hear the Horse's voice actor? And odd choices of accents.
- Same cliche story. Like Dante's Inferno - Save your wife.
- Cannot control camera (game breaker for me) And it doesn't do very well of auto-controlling the camera for you either.
- Attacking/hitting enemies does not feel satisfying at all.
- Dodge is (Hold LT + Right control stick) Really? Come on.. that's horrible controls. You sacrificed controlling the camera for a stupid dodge move? If you're going to copy another action game, you should have use the same dodge controls.
- I enjoyed Dante's Inferno a lot more than this demo.
- Poor storytelling
- Terrible controls
- Castlevania fans wouldn't touch this game.. because I'm not even a CV fan and I wouldn't.
It had potential, but judging from the demo, it's a repeat of another bad 3D Castlevania game. So many things they should have done right but utterly failed. I'm starting to think games by Konami are just being attached with Kojima so they could "sell" the game. I dont even know if Kojima really had anything to do with it. But then again, Kojima never reallly made an action-button mashing game before. Well, here's to hoping Metal Gear Rising isn't a huge fallout.
I'm a long time Castlevania fans and i think the game is excellent, my only gripe is probably the lack of Michiru Yamane's music which i'm used to in previous 3D Castlevania. It sure borrow a lot from other games but they implement it well. 3D CV have been here long before GoW shown its face so i'll never see it as a GoW rip-off but people aren't bright enough to see it past "its a GoW rip-off" tsk tsk, how sad.

Thank you for posting this. Every action game isn't a rip off of God of War. Everyone acts like that game series has the genre copyrighted. Just enjoy the game for what it is.This is deterring me from wanting to play it. I wonder if the Castlevania on the Games on Demand is any good.Creigz
Which one in game on demand? Unless you mean Xbox Live Arcade.
I think the one on the Arcade.

There's 2 Castlevania on XBL Arcade actually, Harmony of despair recently came out and its MAINLY multiplayer focused, its pretty good but only with friends. If you want a real taste of Castlevania, buy Symphony of the night on XBLA, its not a 3D one like Lords of Shadow but its easily one of the best CV ever, its a metroid type game with 2 castle, lots of equipment and secret to find. Try it by yourself!
