Charging the Rechargable Battery

So I just got an Xbox 360, and I got a Charge & Play kit for my wireless controller, and I found out it needs to be charged by the 360 when it's on. Is there anyway to charge the controller with the Charge and Play when the 360's off? Because I got a ZEPHYR model (what the ****, Microsoft?), and I don't want to use too much energy for the 360 and burn it out. Also, I might as well have gotten a wired controller if it's going to be stuck into the 360 while I'm playing. Is getting a Quick Charge kit better?

hook it to your pc

1. turn ON your xbox360

2. connect the controller via cable to USB

3.turn OFF your xbox360

4. if the battery is low on energy after few seconds the red led will start to glow

5.when the battery is full the led will turn green and will automatically stop the process

6.if the battery is half empty after step 2. ,nothing will happen

7. if you press the central XBOX button on the controller,

look in the upper corner of the screen window for battery status

Right now I am looking at my controller charging, xbox is off only the fan works .

The red light on the controller glows, no lights on 360...

ok so the way it works is the first time you play using the rechargable battery is this

1. plug the battery into the controller

2. plug the controller into the xbox360

3. turn on the 360.

4. Red light comes on controller , showing the battery is getting charged. If the light is not red, just unplug and plug the charge cable back in

5. start playing a game

6. if the light turns green, you can unplug the charge cable from the controller

and from that point on you can keep the controller unplugged unless the battery gets low again. and then you just plug the controller into the charge cable while you are playing. easy
